With the Marco Fire-Rescue squad, the public and even a first responder to New York's Ground Zero in attendance the afternoon proved a rich blend of remembrance, sadness, gratefulness and hope. Visitors travelling along 951 in Marco immediately recognized our flag flying high from the extended ladder of a Marco Fire- Rescue engine leading to more emergency trucks and ultimately to the men and women who use them dutifully in service on Marco. A quick welcome then a Fire-Rescue Color Guard posting preceded the National Anthem, lunch and a moving talk by NYC first responder fireman Dennis Bootle. Video presentations at times somber did not shake the patriotic feel in the room and attendees often commented that 'they were here just to be here'.
