Due to an estimated $10,000 cost to resurface the courts the Marco City Council voted to opt out of a portion of a maintenance agreement dealing with maintaining the courts, owned by the county schools district.

When the Marco City Council learned that the cost to resurface the courts was expected to be $10,000, it opted to change its interlocal agreement with the county schools district. The agreement had indicated that the city would maintain the courts. The county has chosen to close the courts on Saturday, paving over the property for other school purposes.

  • Roger LaLonde Staff Brigette Skitter has been working with other tennis players to keep the two public tennis courts behind Tommie Barfield Elementary School open. She and others have emailed and written to city and county schools district officials, with no favorable result.
