  • The Marco Cruise Club held its 32nd Annual Change of Watch and Commodores Ball, at the Marco Island Yacht Club last month. Pictured from left to right are Joe Watson, the incoming commodore and Harvey Eisen the outgoing commodore. The Marco Cruise Club was established in 1976 and still remains one of the oldest and most active boating clubs on Marco Island. The club is affiliated with the “International Order of the Blue Gavel” (IOBG). Meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Marco Community Bank. Overnight and long range cruises as well as Landlubber social activities are schedule year around. Anyone interested in joining the club should contact Tom Thacher 963-9232 or Commodore Joe Watson 394-8800.   • Elizabeth Nash pulls the right string on the Tinkerbell Pinata at her sister Willow's 7th birthday party. The string released a downpour of 4 bags of yummy candy!
  • Tim Scanlan writes, 'This photo of our grandson Hunter Scanlan, age 2, was taken in Naples on Christmas Day 2007. Although not really dressed appropriately for the occasion, Hunter was jumping into the small waves as they reached the shore. Among the features I find interesting about this photo are the height of the jump (for a two-year-old), the reflection of his feet and legs in the wet sand, his long shadow in the sand behind him. It was 5:55 p.m. and the sun was low in the western sky to the left, which explains the long shadow. Also, the young man farther down who is also acting like a 2-year-old having fun on Christmas.'
  • Shawn McMann of Marco Island, sitting on left, volunteered at the phone bank in New Hampshire for Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain. McCain (standing on right) walked over to Shawn and asked to talk with whoever he was on the phone with. McCain won the New Hampshire primary.

  • Officers for the Area 15 multi-program council of the Florida Local Advocacy Council covering Charlotte, Manatee, Sarasota, Desoto, Glades, Hendry, Lee and Collier counties were elected to serve another term. Officers for 2008 are Penny Deutsch, Chair, and Greg Masonick, Vice Chair, both from Charlotte County and Orin Oppermann, second Vice Chair from Collier County.

Romney addressed a crowd of about 200 at The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce office on U.S. 41 at about 3:30 p.m.

His unit received care packages from the Adopt A Soldier Program at the Collier County Sheriff's Office. Smith said he enjoyed having a piece of home with him while serving overseas.

  • On Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, Kenny Skinner of Chesapeake, Va. was honored on his 96th birthday with an open house in the recreation hall at Bonita Beach Trailer Park. Kenny & his wife Jane arrived in the park on Jan. 12, 1977. They were snowbirds for 26 years. Kenny lost Jane on April 3, 2001. For 2 years he was a permanent resident. Then moved in with his daughter and son-in-law, Pat & Roger Rees, who hosted the party. It was a great time to reminisce for Kenny and all his friends.
  • This is a picture of Tom and Bernadette Carroll's youngest grandchild, Tommy. The photo was taken in November, two months after Tom's death. Tommy is wearing the helmet his grandfather wore for over 30 years while a fireman and then an officer of the NYFD. Tommy; his brother, Jack; and all of their cousins know that their Pop will always be watching over them.

  • Many years ago Renee Zepeda, who graduated from Tulane University in Louisiana brought the tradition of serving King Cake on Fat Tuesday here at Boughton Architects Inc. Today, Jim Boughton was responsible for providing the cake, as he ‘got the baby’ last year.

Octoberfest, which begins the last week of September in Germany, is celebrated in February by the MSC since many of the members are still up North in September. The name FeBREWfest is based on the fact that for many, a 'brew' is the beverage of choice at Octoberfest and the MSC picnics.
