Catch Of The Day

The Naples Daily News and naplesnews.com are showcasing fishing photos from throughout the region. Anyone can submit a photo for inclusion. Ideally, submissions will include a photo of the fish and angler, location, type of bait or lure, fishing and weather conditions or a general description. Example: Marco Island, Jane Doe of Marco Island caught this 200-pound tarpon while fishing near Doctors Pass with live mullet on a calm morning. Photos will be selected from the gallery each week and used in our publications, such as the Naples Daily News, The Banner, Marco Eagle and Collier Citizen among others. There is no cost associated with submitting content. It's just another chance to brag about your catch. Please e-mail your photo to news@naplesnews.com to be considered for this feature.

  • Locals, Dan and Chris Barrus, caught their limit of Red Grouper on Sunday while fishing with their dad, Captain Paul.
  • Rhys Brossard and Filipe Gonzales with a double-catch.  They caught both Ladyfish using live shiners for bait.
  • This 40-inch snook was caught and released just off the Kid Wreck on May 21, 2012 by Chris Laimbeer using a live pin fish on the bottom while drifting.
  • Pablo Codi pulled in this Blacktip Shark at Big Carlos Pass on May 19 2012.  He used a ladyfish head for bait as the tide was ebbing.
  • Breanna Stephens caught this huge Red Fish while fishing the Gordon River in the a.m.  Her wonderful boyfriend put her in the great location for this catch.
  • Local Capt. Eddie Challinor lands and releases a 200-pound Goliath Grouper on a wreck off of Fort Myers.

  • Gary Ellsworth caught a 40-pound Black Grouper in the Dry Tortugas.
  • Mason Jones-Mealer caught his first Red Fish using live shrimp on his visit with his dad, Fred Herman Jones.
  • Pete Seitz of Naples caught two snook within 15 minutes of each other.  The snook were caught on live white bait.  Both snook were revived and released back into Johnson Bay.  This snook was 35-inches and 25-pounds.
  • This is the second snook caught by Pete Seitz of Naples. This snook was 34-inches and 20-pounds.
  • Preston Smith caught this nice Snook at his favorite fishing spot using a Golden Eye lure.
  • Christian Roberti from North Kingston, RI. caught this 28-inch snook with a white Rapala on a rainy day.  He caught this while he was traveling from Route 41 to Chockoloskee with his brother, Ethan, his father and his grandfather.

  • Chuck Tabeling, Chuck Tabeling, Jr. and Joe Prahme caught this 40 pound cobia on a large jig and sardine combo while fishing about 30 miles west of Goodland. This was the winning fish in the Island Woman fishing contest.
  • Kevin Weber, of the Getsnookerd tournament fishing team, opens a cast net on a school of large pilchards before heading offshore for a day of fishing.
  • Alex Wagoner with a Gag Grouper, caught and released off of New Pass.
  • Kristy Applegate caught this 32 inch redfish in Matlacha using a Greenback.
  • Mel Butler with a 32 inch snook, caught in Everglades National Park.
  • Pat Butler with a 34 inch redfish, caught on a jig south of Chokoloskee.

  • Hannah Foley, of Naples, caught this 20 inch Jack Crevalle while fishing in North Dollar Bay using live shrimp on Saturday, April 14.
  • Caitlyn Forbes caught this 8 pound bass in Ave Maria using a black and pink worm.
  • Stephanie Anderson, of North Naples, holds her prized dolphin catch after a day of fishing 40 miles out from Marco Island.
  • This 40 inch snook was caught and released on Tuesday, April 10, by Steve Garske, of Marco Island. Garske was fishing with Joe Moris, of Estero, when they found the snook by the back of Mound Key in Estero Bay and hooked it on a 5 inch long live white bait.
  • Ethan Altaratz boated his first tarpon while fishing south of Marco Island.
  • Luke Thomas from Wyalusing, PA, caught this five foot long blacktip shark while fishing in the Ten Thousand Islands with Captain Chris DeWitt.

  • Trisha Borges, of Naples, caught her first grouper about 50 miles off of Marco Island with live bait, one day before her birthday.
  • Merrissa Castro, of Naples, caught this kingfish about 10 miles out of Naples at Ricky's Red Reef using live shrimp as bait on April 3.
  • Doug Paulson from Dent, MI, with a gator trout caught on a gulp shrimp in cape Romano.
  • Gerry Mahnke caught this 21 inch, five and a half pound largemouth bass at Berkshire Lakes. He caught it on a Texas-rigged Berkley power lizard.
  • Jeff Pinkett of Chagrin Falls, OH, caught this 5 lb trout using a pin fish at Wiggins Pass.
  • Amelia, from Minneapolis, caught this sheepshead using live shrimp in a strong outgoing tide while fishing Wiggins Pass with her grandfather, George, on April 5.

  • 13 year old Jack McCool of West Roxbury, MA, with a couple of slot redfish caught on live bait with Captain Bruce Jackmack.
  • Kyle Schaff, from Iowa, caught a 19 inch Spanish mackerel with live shrimp bait on March 17, 2012. He caught it off Redfish Pass near Sanibel Island.
  • Doris Sowers with a 400 pound goliath grouper that was caught about 20 miles out of Gordon's Pass. This picture made an appearance in the Naples Daily News way back in the mid-1970's.
  • Cole Honeycutt, from Cincinnati, with a hogfish that he caught on shrimp 5 miles out from Naples pier with Captain Jason.

  • Angler Rodney Bromm and Captain Dave Hanson, with a 20 pound, 45 inch king mackerel that they caught on shrimp on a recent offshore Fishbuster Charter.
  • Seven-year-old Malachy Bowles, from Naples, caught this Spanish mackerel fishing south of Goodland with Captain Jesse Karen.
  • Eleven-year-old Rory Bowles, of Naples, caught this sea trout fishing south of Goodland with Captain Jesse Karen.
  • Anthony Santiago caught this 80 inch blacktip shark on March 19, using a 10 inch mullet for bait.
  • Anthony Santiago caught this 73 inch bull shark on Friday, March 17 2010.

  • Kevin Weber with a 30 pound cobia caught onboard the Getsnookerd fishing team's Contender, 44 miles southwest of Gordon's Pass using a live pilchard for bait.
  • Captain Neal and deckhand Bob Marvin were on a full-day deep sea fishing trip on the M/V KUDU 23 miles offshore, when they hooked a 10 foot sandbar shark. They fought the shark for 65 minutes.
  • Herman Herford, from Urbana, OH, caught this 60 pound amberjack on a pinfish while fishing 38 miles offshore of Bonita Beach with recreational fisherman Gregg Bedell, owner of Captain Ed's Charter Boats.
  • Cole Jacobson caught this sheepshead using live shrimp while fishing with his family at Doctor's Pass.

  • Amanda Ohlis caught her very first fish, a 14 inch sheepshead, in Estero Bay with Captain Dan Leonard.
  • John-John Brossard with the five-foot bull shark he caught, tagged and released on Saturday, March 10 out of Marco Island.
  • Derick Swank of Naples caught this 15 pound permit fish using shrimp as bait, out about 10 miles in the Gulf.  While reeling it in, a 10 foot  bullhead shark bit the tail off of the fish.  He was fishing with Capt. Jimbo Hail in the Gulf.
  • Ken Ford with his catch, a black tip shark.
  • Jasmine Ford holding a sheepshead that she caught in March.

  • Vicki Hufstetler, of Fairfield, Ohio, recently caught this 6 pound largemouth bass while fishing with a shiner in a pond in Bonita Springs.
  • This 25 inch red grouper was caught last week by Rusty Moore, of Naples, while fishing offshore with Captain Jimbo Hail.
  • Chris Bourgeois of Portland, Maine, caught this redfish while fishing in the Ten Thousand Islands with Captain Bill Miller and Bud Hoffman on February 24, 2012. It was caught on a lure casting from the boat.
  • Tim Piscatelli caught this 26 inch redfish in Blackwater River out of Goodland. He used a skitter-walk for bait.
  • Jim Singer, from Canastota, New York, caught this 26 inch red drum on live shrimp while fishing on a boat dock at lower Big Hickory Bay.
  • Belen landed her first catfish from a deck boat while fishing off of Marco Island.

  • Filipe Fernandes with a soft-shelled turtle. He caught it while trying to catch catfish in a freshwater canal in Naples using chicken gizzards for bait. It was released.
  • Gary Laster caught this snook at Wiggins Pass on a White Shrimp Gulp Bait.
  • Karen Pierce-Laster caught this sheepshead on a jig with a frozen shrimp near Clam Pass.

  • Michael Levaul and Pat McGlynn caught this six-foot bull shark in New Pass, Bonita Springs. The shark had gotten a reputation as of late for aggressively eating all the sheepshead in the area, and was found to be pregnant. The shark pups were released.
  • Josh Carter, of Naples, landed a 75-pound Cobia 25 miles offshore. He used a tube lure as bait.
He was accompanied by his father, Kevin, and Dr. David Schewitz and his son Adam.
  • Pete Paulson, of Bonita Springs, with a 33-inch gag grouper that he caught and released while fishing 34 miles offshore of Bonita Beach on a bait fish with recreational fisherman Gregg Bedell, owner of Captain

  • Amber Baily caught this 24-inch snook on artificial bait in Estero Bay on February 19.
  • Captain Chris Workman caught this 22-pound mutton snapper onboard the Getsnookerd tournament fishing team's Contender, while fishing 62 miles southwest of Gordon's Pass using pilchards.

  • Larry Burchfield from Columbus, OH, caught these mangrove snappers on a shrimp while fishing 18 miles offshore with recreational fisherman Gregg Bedell, owner of Captain Ed's Charter Boats.
  • Karen Pierce caught this spotted sea trout in Clam Pass on a Silver Spoon.
  • Captain Jerry Kernan caught his largest snook to date, at 46 inches, on a shrimp in Fakahatchee Bay in a foot and a half of water on a falling tide.

  • Larry Flagg caught a 32-inch gag grouper on a shrimp, and then released it. Flagg caught the fish eighteen miles west of New Pass, on a recent offshore Fishbuster Charter.
  • Captain Jim Chaffee, of Marco Island, caught this 39-inch amberjack on January 23, using a blue runner near a radio tower in 70 feet of water.
  • Seven-year-old Robert Hennig, from Naples, FL, caught this largemouth bass in Belle Meade with a rubber worm on January 29, 2012. The bass managed to break Hennig's fishing rod in the struggle, but its efforts were no match for the young boy on that day.
  • Dalton Ackley and his grandfather Ron Jahnke, both from Lee County, with a Peacock Bass. They caught it while fishing the Miami Canals, near Miami International Airport.
  • Gregg Bedell, owner of Captain Ed's Charter Boats, with a 22 and a half-inch mangrove snapper that he caught on a shrimp while fishing 26 miles offshore of Bonita Beach.
  • Joan Barkell caught this 27-inch redfish on a shrimp at the pier at Caxambas Boat Ramp in November. It was her first time fishing.
