Catch Of The Day

The Naples Daily News and naplesnews.com are showcasing fishing photos from throughout the region. Anyone can submit a photo for inclusion. Ideally, submissions will include a photo of the fish and angler, location, type of bait or lure, fishing and weather conditions or a general description. Example: Marco Island, Jane Doe of Marco Island caught this 200-pound tarpon while fishing near Doctors Pass with live mullet on a calm morning. Photos will be selected from the gallery each week and used in our publications, such as the Naples Daily News, The Banner, Marco Eagle and Collier Citizen among others. There is no cost associated with submitting content. It's just another chance to brag about your catch. Please e-mail your photo to news@naplesnews.com to be considered for this feature.

  • Cameron Bagliolid caught a 31-pound, 15-inch hog fish aboard the Kudu, operated by Pure Naples out of Tin City, on the Gulf of Mexico on January 2.
  • Patrick Behnke, 9 years old, caught this 29-inch, 20-pound black drum on a piece of shrimp.  Patrick, of Stevensville, Mich., made this catch while fishing with his dad, grandpa and great grandpa in Marco Island.  The fish was released and unharmed.
  • Angler Rechel Moore caught this 4-foot sand shark while offshore fishing off the coast of Marco Island.
  • Christian Sommer and his nephew from Indiana caught a few pompano while fishing out of Estero.
  • Jose Rodrigues, of Naples, with a nice 15-inch sheepshead from Wiggins Pass.
  • Jerry with a nice 27-inch red grouper.  He caught it on-board the Cuda Fishing Charters out of the Naples city dock.

  • Five-year-old Nathaniel Kantor, of Naples, caught this 26 7/8-inch redfish while fishing with Captain Pete Rapps out of Chokoloskee. Another 1/8-inch longer and the fish would have been too big to keep. He hooked it and fought it to the boat all by himself!
  • Rick Heiser caught this 19-pound triple tail using live shrimp while fishing off Naples on December 2 aboard the Daydreamer Charters with Captain Dan Haley.
  • Tommy Steffen, of Ramsey, Minn., caught this redfish on a popping cork while using shrimp for bait.  He was fishing south of Goodland with his Papa, Captain Tom.
  • Cindi Baird caught and released this 30 1/2-inch gag grouper on a pin fish.  She was fishing 38 miles offshore from Bonita Beach on December 3 when she made this catch.
  • Nine-year-old Jeremy Boll caught these snappers offshore while using live shrimp.  He also caught and released a 21-inch gag grouper and several short reds.
  • Peter, from Massachusetts, with a triple tail he caught using live shrimp with Captain Mark Yimin of Calusa Fishing Adventures out of Estero Bay.

  • Brad Humphrey from Reno, NV, caught these two large pompano on shrimp while backwater fishing at New Pass with friends and Captain Don Meister of Captain Ed's Charter Boats.

  • Dick Brunn, who is sight-impaired, caught this 22 inch redfish using a live shrimp while fishing in Estero Bay on a calm morning. He was fishing with his longtime friend and guide, Captain Mike McDonald.
  • Captain Jim, of Double R's Fishing & Tours, guided his boat in the Ten Thousand Islands chain on November 7 on a cool and windy morning. Paul Andrews, of Naples, caught this 140 pound black tipped shark with the help of his buddies, Carmine, Rich and Ron.

  • Mark Coleman caught this kingfish on July 15 over 20 miles off the Marco Caxsambas Pass area.  His friend David Bostick was driving the boat.
  • A 24-inch redfish caught by Tom Davis in Estero Bay after co-captain Joe Shannon put him on the fish.  Nothing better than catching dinner and having it be redfish!
  • Cindy Baird, of Bonita Springs, caught this 26-and-a-half-inch red grouper on November 5 using a pinfish while fishing 39 miles offshore of Bonita Beach with recreational fisherman Gregg Bedell.
  • Cindi Baird, of Bonita Springs, caught this 38-and-a-half-pound cobia on November 4 on a pinfish while fishing 28 miles offshore from Bonita Beach with recreational fisherman Gregg Bedell.
  • Vince DeLuca, 86 years young, landed this 39-inch, 20-pound snook with help from his son Mike.  He caught this snook using  shrimp under a cork  and some local advice from the very helpful  woman who works at South Bay Marina.  The fish was caught after a 20-minute battle on calm waters at 4:30 p.m. on October 20 off a dock on Oak Ave. in Naples.
  • Captain Mike Avinon and Denny Solomen with a 53-pound black grouper that they caught recently offshore of Naples. They also caught red grouper and mangrove snapper on the trip.

  • A 16-inch pompano caught on shrimp by Rowena Wood, who is on vacation from Bath, UK, on October 22 at Tigertail.  This is the largest pompano caught by Rowena or her husband, Bob, at Tigertail; they have fished here every October for 13 years!

  • Chandler Shelley, of Arkansas, caught his flounder off John's Pass while boating on a sunny day with his dad in our secret spot just a few days ago using greenback bait.  He is 9 years old.
  • Heather Fernstrom caught, tagged and released  this 635-pound blue marlin on August 30 in Kailua- Kona, Hawaii aboard the Sea Genie II.  It was a 45 minute fight.  The fish swam away healthy.  Heather was exhausted, but came away with a big smile.
  • Noah Shelley, of Michigan, is 12 years old.  He caught this ladyfish with his dad off the Skyway Bridge using live shrimp.  It was an overcast day.
  • Jeff Peterson and Jerry Clark with a 24-inch and 30-inch red grouper caught off Marco Island.
