Catch Of The Day

The Naples Daily News and naplesnews.com are showcasing fishing photos from throughout the region. Anyone can submit a photo for inclusion. Ideally, submissions will include a photo of the fish and angler, location, type of bait or lure, fishing and weather conditions or a general description. Example: Marco Island, Jane Doe of Marco Island caught this 200-pound tarpon while fishing near Doctors Pass with live mullet on a calm morning. Photos will be selected from the gallery each week and used in our publications, such as the Naples Daily News, The Banner, Marco Eagle and Collier Citizen among others. There is no cost associated with submitting content. It's just another chance to brag about your catch. Please e-mail your photo to news@naplesnews.com to be considered for this feature.

  • Larry Flagg caught a 32-inch gag grouper on a shrimp, and then released it. Flagg caught the fish eighteen miles west of New Pass, on a recent offshore Fishbuster Charter.
  • Captain Jim Chaffee, of Marco Island, caught this 39-inch amberjack on January 23, using a blue runner near a radio tower in 70 feet of water.
  • Seven-year-old Robert Hennig, from Naples, FL, caught this largemouth bass in Belle Meade with a rubber worm on January 29, 2012. The bass managed to break Hennig's fishing rod in the struggle, but its efforts were no match for the young boy on that day.
  • Dalton Ackley and his grandfather Ron Jahnke, both from Lee County, with a Peacock Bass. They caught it while fishing the Miami Canals, near Miami International Airport.
  • Gregg Bedell, owner of Captain Ed's Charter Boats, with a 22 and a half-inch mangrove snapper that he caught on a shrimp while fishing 26 miles offshore of Bonita Beach.
  • Joan Barkell caught this 27-inch redfish on a shrimp at the pier at Caxambas Boat Ramp in November. It was her first time fishing.

  • While fishing for the very first time in his life, on his very first cast, Charlie Sernovitz caught this 14-inch red fish near the south end of Estero Bay using a live shrimp. Charlie was visiting from Austin, TX.
  • Rhys Brossard, with a nice Snook caught on a gulp shrimp in the backwaters of Doctor's Pass in Naples.
  • Kimberly Brossard and Bobby, with ladyfish that they caught on jigs in the backwater of Gordon's Pass in Naples.
  • Nick Bardash caught this bull redfish on a shrimp in the mangroves around Marco Island.
  • Joe Sambataro caught this 38-inch Amberjack with live bait about 40 miles out from Gordon Pass. His fishing partners were Jim Soucek and John Brown.

  • Noah Lopez and his father, Jorge, show off a keeper redfish they caught using shrimp on a cork on a falling tide in Estero Bay fishing with Capt. Mark Yimin of Calusa Fishing Adventures.
  • Wednesday 26 October heralded a return of fish to the top of Tigertail Beach after the storm of last week.  It was a serendipitous conjunction of a new moon, high tide and fine weather and Leo Buffa, from Ottawa, Ontario caught this splendid 20' speckled sea trout in the recently formed new channel at the top of Tigertail.  Leo said that in his twenty years of fishing off  Tigertail, this catch was certainly up with the best!  In the two hours around the high tide time, Leo's fishing companions also caught an 18' redfish and  two 12' pompano.  A very rewarding day, which makes the two and a half mile walk up and back the beach very worthwhile.
  • Christine Narwid of Marco Island on a fishing trip out of Homer, Alaska, caught this yellow eye, three hours out into the Gulf on July 25 aboard the charter, 'Red Ryder'. Christine was fishing with her husband Henry, daughter Tracey and grandson Salvatore. That day all caught there limit of ling-cod,yellow eye, black rock and halibut.

  • Ahoy Mates!!  Princess Pirate Julia Trowbridge and Kenny Thomas landed many snook, and safely released them aboard 'No Worries Mate' with Captain (Daddy). The little mates were fishing outside Wiggins.
  • Jayson Matthews of Estero caught and released this 32 inch snook on a greenback minnow while fishing in Naples.
  • Angler Ken Fiedler with a 16-inch hogfish, caught on shrimp in 35 feet, west of New Pass, Saturday, Oct. 15, on an offshore charter with Captain Dave Hanson. Hogfish are amog the most coveted food-fish.
