On Friday, January 25th, 2013 at the Fort Myers Police Department’s Special Investigations Group with the assistance of uniformed officers conducted an undercover "John's Operation" on Cleveland Avenue. The operation was in response to citizen complaints of street prostitution. Female officers posed as street prostitutes in an attempt to be solicited by individuals looking to receive sexual acts for money.
An 18-month investigation of a marijuana trafficking operation resulted in more than 20 arrests in Collier and Lee counties. During this investigation, more than 31 pounds of marijuana and more than $147,000 in currency were seized by detectives.
It was announced that Operation SPIDERWEB was a success after arresting 40 individuals seeking children, ages 11 to 15, via social media, to perform sexual acts. The operation lasted 7 days. Ages of the arrested ranged from 18 to 51 years old. Occupations of those arrested ranged from pool technician to military personnel.
