Quentin Maulsby in a hospital bed while undergoing treatment for brain injuries suffered at the hands of his babysitter. Cherie Landowski pleaded no contest to aggravated child abuse for hitting Quentin Maulsby, an infant she was baby-sitting in March 2010. The boy was hospitalized for more than a week with bleeding on the brain and two broken ribs.  Quentin is now 3 1/2 years old and has permanent brain damage.

The City of Bonita Springs held a Memorial Day Service at Riverside Park on Monday in honor of veterans who died while on duty or after their time of service. Local veterans and dignitaries shared personal stories before the laying of the wreaths and a rifle salute, and 100 veterans were individually honored in the Aisle of Flags. Many visitors and residents wiped away tears during the service, which started with a helicopter flyover from the Lee County Sheriff’s Department and concluded with the playing of “Taps,” a closing prayer, and a musical tribute from Alex Herron of “Some Gave All.”
