Description
Tucked away in a small, red wooden building, El Tapatio offers an authentic Mexican experience. Even a Coke comes in a recycled glass bottle, as it would south of the border. Spanish is the language of choice among clientele and wait staff (but many of them speak perfect English), and on one January evening, the television was even tuned to a Mexican league soccer game while a NFL playoff match-up was under way.
Every meal at El Tapatio (the name means somebody from the city of Guadalajara, the owner’s hometown) starts with complimentary fresh totopos (chips), pico de gallo and spicy salsa roja. All the standard Mexican dishes you would expect are here; burritos, enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, and flautas (basically a deep fried enchilada). There’s a wide range of choices and plate sizes with standard antojitos (appetizers), small plates and full meals with sides of refried beans and rice.
Of course, El Tapatio also offers traditionally made Margaritas that refresh your palate after each mordida picante (spicy bite).
