You might be skeptical upon reading the menu at La Fogata, which claims to offer “authentic southern Mexican cuisine.” But rest assured, their dishes back it up.
The entrees may be unfamiliar to those raised on Taco Bell, but don’t fear the unknown. Try the mixiote de pollo -- chicken in homemade sauce with three types of peppers, or the cecina -– grilled flank steak with guacamole.
Think cheese-covered nachos are decadent? Wait until you try the queso fundido, a bowl of melted cheese filled with goodies like pork or mushrooms that you scoop up with a tortilla.
This definitely isn’t Cancun or Tijuana. A visit to La Fogata is about as close you’ll get to a pueblo in southern Mexico around these parts.
