Description
The Schandler Hall Community Center and Park is a Lee County facility operated for the benefit of residents and visitors. The original community center, built in stages from 1948-52, was named for Mr. E.O. "Pop" Schandler, a longtime member of the Lion's Club, who had urged the group to establish the facility and gift it to the citizens of Lee County. The Shandler Hall Community Center is open weekdays from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. for residents to enjoy the pool tables, ping pong, foosball, electronic games and board games. There is space for community events, after-school classes, summer camps and arts and crafts. The adjacent Schandler Hall Community Park, the former site of Crossroads Baptist Church, is being developed into a large community park for the citizens of Fort Myers and Lee County. The playground and picnic area is complete, as are basketball and tennis courts. There is also one grass soccer/softball field available for use. Future plans include expansion of the original community center, an enlarged parking area, a water park and additional soccer, baseball and football fields, as well as nature trails. Schandler Hall Community Park is open from sunrise to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
