Description
There are dozens — and dozens — of Italian restaurants in Southwest Florida. Tre Amici, a little gem at 975 Pine Ridge Road, is one such Naples treasure that gets it right. For starters, Tre Amici goes that extra mile. War horses such as pasta e fagioli ($7) and fruitti di mare ($11) are both outstanding. The soup, a traditional hearty blend of pasta (cooked al dente), beans, vegetables and pork, comes pleasantly infused with garlic and olive oil. Warm, crusty house bread makes a fine accompaniment. Instead of the same-old, same-old squirt of oil or pats of butter, the bread came with a bowl of house-cured black and green olives marinated in an addictively tasty mix of aged balsamic vinegar, olive oil and spices. The mixed seafood salad includes super-fresh, marinated clams, shrimp, mussels and calamari arranged on a plate that belonged on the cover of Gourmet magazine. The Spaghetti al Caviar ($19), is a silky-smooth, heavenly creation. A large bowl of perfectly cooked angel hair pasta — enhanced with a creamy mascarpone vodka cream sauce with a subtle hint of onions and chives — comes crowned with a healthy heap of decent, albeit domestic, caviar. Linguini Positano ($22) arrives as a lovely arrangement of pasta generously topped with shrimp and clams in an incredibly tasty tomato-garlic-white wine sauce with hints of fresh basil. Other entrée selections include spaghetti a la carbonara, crispy Moscovy duck, pork chops Milanese, cioppino and veal Marsala. Dessert wows too. The perfect, absolutely perfect, tiramisu ($8), is an authentically made airy mélange of lady fingers dipped in a coffee-Marsala mix, then layered with mascarpone and chocolate. It was positively ethereal, surrounded by fresh blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries dotting the plate.
