The group serves up five one-act plays about life, love, family and the horizontal bop. While the writing leaves much to be desired, the acting lifts gentle, innocuous scenes to pleasant, enjoyable watching.

Actually, it’s about doing good, not debauchery, as “Wet Paint Live” returns to the island for the fifth year.
A group of well-known Marco and Southwest Florida artists will fan out to locations all over the island with their easels, each creating a painting from start to finish on that day. The resulting works will be auctioned off that evening, many with the paint still wet – hence the name – in a charity fundraiser.

Unlike most art exhibits, the “Art in Bloom” show was mounted for only three days. A reception was held Friday evening at the Marco Island Center for the Arts, and then art lovers or flower fanciers had the weekend to take it in.
The brief time-frame mirrors the amount of time a flower can be counted on to show itself off to best advantage, after being cut. In a case of art imitating art, the Art in Bloom show consisted of 26 pieces by members of the Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island, each interpreting in horticulture one of the “fiber art” pieces displayed in the Art Center’s main gallery.

Winn-Dixie’s playbook calls for frying up additional wings for its Wings Bar. Publix is kicking off game day with cakes emblazoned with the logo of your favorite team. The food and beverages fly off supermarket shelves at the same pace before the big game as they do before Thanksgiving and Christmas, according to Publix staff.
