In the Jewish tradition it represents God’s bounty and food that sustains us. However, its meaning in the Christian churches is deeper and more profound. The Church Lady visited Marco’s houses of worship to explore the Bread of Life, the food that sustains and strengthens us.

</title><link>http://www.marconews.com/news/2012/feb/09/buddying-hideaway-brings-guadalupe-center-children/?partner=RSS</link><description>For the second graders from the Guadalupe Center, it was a chance to see a side of Southwest Florida they don’t get to experience, far away from their everyday lives. For their “big buddies,” the same was true, with the added satisfaction of bringing the light of enjoyment to a child’s eyes.
Wednesday marked the 20th year for Buddy Day, when children from Immokalee come and spend a day of arts and crafts, beaching, nature exploration and fun, at Hideaway Beach Club’s picnic grove on the northwest corner of Marco Island. Each “little buddy” was paired with an adult volunteer, who helped facilitate their buddy’s day at the beach.

The group serves up five one-act plays about life, love, family and the horizontal bop. While the writing leaves much to be desired, the acting lifts gentle, innocuous scenes to pleasant, enjoyable watching.

Actually, it’s about doing good, not debauchery, as “Wet Paint Live” returns to the island for the fifth year.
A group of well-known Marco and Southwest Florida artists will fan out to locations all over the island with their easels, each creating a painting from start to finish on that day. The resulting works will be auctioned off that evening, many with the paint still wet – hence the name – in a charity fundraiser.

Unlike most art exhibits, the “Art in Bloom” show was mounted for only three days. A reception was held Friday evening at the Marco Island Center for the Arts, and then art lovers or flower fanciers had the weekend to take it in.
The brief time-frame mirrors the amount of time a flower can be counted on to show itself off to best advantage, after being cut. In a case of art imitating art, the Art in Bloom show consisted of 26 pieces by members of the Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island, each interpreting in horticulture one of the “fiber art” pieces displayed in the Art Center’s main gallery.

</title><link>http://www.marconews.com/news/2012/feb/02/photos-all-aboard-key-west-express-shows-their-big/?partner=RSS</link><description>The Big Cat Express, the new Key West Express catamaran offering round trips to Key West, dwarfs every other vessel at Rose Marina. At 150 feet long, and able to accommodate 300 passengers, the space between the two hulls is tall enough to take your runabout right in between and underneath. You might not even have to lower the Bimini top.
So it’s odd, standing on the Big Cat Express’s bridge, to note what the ship – it really seems too big to be just a “boat” – doesn’t have. There’s no steering wheel.

</title><link>http://www.marconews.com/news/2012/feb/02/gardening-learning-how-propagate-plants-exciting-w/?partner=RSS</link><description>Plants can be propagated by sexual or asexual means. Sexual propagation is starting plants from seed. Multiplying of plants from vegetative plant parts such as shoots, roots and leaves or bulbs and corms is called asexual propagation.
Asexual propagation will grow plants with the same characteristics as the parent plant. It is the best method of reproduction when a plant produces seeds which are difficult to germinate. The most common method of asexual propagation is from cuttings. Cuttings can be made from stems, roots and leaves. Cuttings should be taken from healthy plants and placed in a warm, humid environment to encourage root development and prevent them from drying.

The theory is, if people see those giant images enough, the public will want to watch the newsies on TV too.
It’s a proven advertising technique; Ted Turner made a fortune in billboard advertising before his cable TV empire flourished.
