Biography
Beat: Lee County Public Schools, Edison College
Started at Daily News: October 2004
Bio: Deirdre grew up in Miami. She is a product of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, where a high school teacher got her hooked on journalism. (Seeing South Florida's endlessly wacky news unfold in the pages of the Miami Herald sealed the deal.) In 2004, Deirdre earned a BA in Sociology and Anthropology from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. Before returning to Florida, she interned at newspapers in North Carolina and Virginia, writing stories about everything from late-night crime to weight-loss surgery. When she isn't hanging out in local classrooms or school board meetings, Deirdre spends as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors in Florida. She is an eighth-generation Floridian.
