The Island Theater Company summer camp is set to run July 5-22, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Audition times for the camp show, “Lion King Jr.,” will be communicated to the campers in the first week.

Summer camp activities will teach theater basics, including:

• Stage direction;

• Terminology;

• Auditioning;

• The production process;

• Lighting, sound and much more.

Programming is designed for the beginner and experienced student actors. All activities are designed to develop imagination, concentration, character, professionalism, and technique to strengthen the student’s command of his/her body and voice. All participants will be given a part in the Island Theater Company production of “The Lion King Jr.”

Principal roles will only be given to those attending all three weeks of camp.

All classes and performances take place at Marco Lutheran Church, 525 N. Collier Blvd.

Camp personnel

Marissa Secades is pursuing a dual degree in theater and English, with a concentration in film and media studies, at the University of Florida. This is her third year working with the Island Theater Company, and she says she is very excited to be directing the kids in “Lion King Jr.” this summer.

And joining her this year is Christopher Cheng, a student at Miami Dade College, studying for his associates of arts in drama and drama education. He will start his second semester at Dade in the fall, and is looking to further his education in New York.
