A 2-year-old boy was found drowned Tuesday in a pond behind his house.

His mother, Lacey Opper, found the back door open at 7 p.m. at their home on Valerie Way in East Naples, according to a report from the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

The boy, Peter Mitchell, was in his white "All Star" pajamas, the report noted.

William Letchworth, Opper's neighbor, said he heard her screaming and helped her search the apartment and yard.

They found Peter's sippy cup by the pond, the report states. Letchworth saw Peter floating facedown about 15 feet from shore. Letchworth jumped in, pulled Peter out of the water and began CPR, the report says.

Three deputies already were on scene to help the search and took over the CPR efforts. They also tried a defibrillator, according to the report.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
