What was Princess Cruises like in its early days? In celebration of the line's 50th anniversary this month, USA TODAY is taking a nostalgic look back at its early vessels, including such icons as the Pacific Princess of The Love Boat fame.

Scroll through the carousel above for a peek inside the Princess ships that began it all in the 1960s, the Princess Patricia and Princess Italia. The tour also includes such vessels as the Island Princess, which also appeared in The Love Boat episodes, and the Princess Carla.

While almost tiny by today's standards, the early Princess ships helped revolutionize the cruise industry and put Princess on a path to becoming one of the world's biggest lines.

Created by veteran cruise writer and ship photographer Peter Knego, the tour combines rare archival exterior and interior photographs of the vessels from the periods before, during and after their ownership by Princess.

Nearly all of the ships have been scrapped in recent years, including the Pacific Princess.

For a sense of how far Princess has come since its early days, scroll through the carousels below for tours of its newest ship, the one-year-old Regal Princess, and its 11-year-old Diamond Princess.
