But tax experts tell ABC News there are other reasons Romney may not want the public viewing his returns. As one of the wealthiest candidates to run for president in recent times, Romney has used a variety of techniques to help minimize the taxes on his estimated $250 million fortune. In addition to paying the lower tax rate on his investment income, Romney has as much as $8 million invested in at least 12 funds listed on a Cayman Islands registry. Another investment, which Romney reports as being worth between $5 million and $25 million, shows up on securities records as having been domiciled in the Caymans.

Official documents reviewed by ABC News show that Bain Capital, the private equity partnership Romney once ran, has set up some 138 secretive offshore funds in the Caymans.

FACT!In 2001 the U.S. government took in more money than it spent and was paying down on the national debt, the fourth year in a row of surpluses under Bill Clinton.

What happened in 2001 to turn all those surpluses into deficits and is still being compounded everyday? Bush had started his war in Iraq that he refused to pay for; Medicare Part D – which was not paid for – had not been passed; significant amounts had not been spent on homeland security.

FACT: In 2001 the GOP Congress waived the Pay-Go rules and passed the first of Baby Bush’s irresponsible tax cuts. In 2002 they let the Pay-Go rules expire.

FACT: In 2003 Bush started his unpaid for war in Iraq and just a few months later he signed another another irresponsible tax cut into law, the first time an American president signed tax cuts into law during a time of war.

Don’t attempt to blame Obama for the problems that were created by Baby Bush’s tax cuts and the spending he refused to pay for in cooperation with a reckless and irresponsible GOP Congress.

Question: What's wrong with protecting our National Symbol, The AMERICAN bald eagle?

This has nothing to do with a school, solar farm or dredging dump! However this has all to do with protecting our environment, wildlife and clean air.

When I first moved here this was a tropical paradise. Since then, this Island has turned into a "Blacktop City"

To those "Blacktop City" lovers, Please don't change our tropical Island into Cleveland.

I give the eagle group high marks for saving the environment for helpless voiceless beings, whose only natural enemy is man!

Captnjimbo,

In retrospect I think that there would have been a great deal more acceptance by the community had the "Y" been that starting place as originally stated by the Academy. If things were to work out there, then the next step in growth might have been a great deal easier.

But when statements of "Done Deal", "I never ever lose, ever", "almost dead residents living around Tract K", "child haters", "idiots for not reading the deed" were uttered by proponents a barrier was erected instead of a means for the community to work together to find a solution to a problem. Now that too seems doubtful.

Too bad egos stood in the way. Maybe an honest and true concern for the community would have helped instead of the I am going to get my way, or else attitude exhibited at the CCSB meetings.

I agree! I know others that feel same way!

They (the parents) are unwilling to except anyone that does not look like them or speak the same language.

The Marco Defenders real concern is having others supplement his/hers lack of funds to educate their children.

Marco Island Academy is about the public funding a so called private school for certain children, without their parents having to paying tuition.

How could any caring concern parent deny their child a full diverse high school experience, and put them in trailers?

The parents that are the loudest moved here not because of their children, but because of their own selfish egos, the kids had no voice, no choice..

Whiskey,
Property values started dropping in 2007, not 10 years ago.

In some parts of this country prices have gone up. But one would have to look over the bridge to know that.

I retired from a major world bank at the age of 46. I took the golden parachute and decided to move here 10 years ago. I do daily what most wish they could do ... Nothing, besides play the market, drink and fish!

As far your question about Track K, It's not important what I think at this point. The property has been "Locked up for the next 5 years" so the conversation on that subject is moot, and you need to move on.

You said "Home prices will come back in line with wages." Whiskey...Houses on Marco will never sell for $59,900, that's what the current wages paid on Marco buys you!

I used the numbers we have today. If we all knew what tomorrow would bring as you suggest, we would be called fortune tellers.

My father taught me this old saying which I think applies here...and needs to be shared.....

I question your post.

"To put a quality, top rated high school (oxymoron in the state of FL) on Marco would help bring families here from surrounding areas. It would provide a source of employment".

The average house (on Marco) still costs $500,000.

The down payment that would be require is 20% or $100,000 down, plus $15,000 in closing costs. Financing $400,000 the payment would be $2,148.00 per month. Taxes of $5,000 a year would be $416.00 per month. Wind, flood and home owners insurance would be $3,500 a year or $292.00 per. And last but not least your Marco Island water and sewer bill which averages $160.00 per month.

Add that up and you pay $3,015.00 per month to live in the average home on Marco. Remember the lenders/banks no longer give or approve, liar loans, You must prove income!!

So in order to buy a home on Marco the bank would require an annual income of $108,800. My question to you is this......Do you know where on Marco someone is paying their employees $108.880 a year?

Teachers at MIA won't be able afford to live on Marco.

Do you know any working families that have 100k sitting around for a down payment to buy property?

May I suggest you take some courses in finance and math?

This is what has been sold to the Recker and the city council. That people will move here if we build a school.

Mr. Recker should concentrate his energies on bringing "Good paying" jobs to Marco. Show me the jobs that pay over 100k! Then your argument will have some validity.

BTW your comment "top rated high school (oxymoron in the state of FL)" If that's how you feel, God gave you two good feet. If you don't like Florida...well you know the rest!
