This should be a code violation:

If you happened to see a U.S. flag at half mast on Monday 9th, it has nothing to do with Pearl Harbor. Obama signed an executive order dictating that all flags be at half mast for Mandela, and our Governor went along with it.

The only U.S. government building that should do that is the U.S. embassy in South Africa! Unless I missed something, Mandela was not an American citizen.

I will take note of non government businesses that do this and vote with my wallet in the future.

Written on Letter to the Editor: Broken promises:

I have always thought our Island is too small to be a self governed city, and should have remained a part of Collier County.

Being elected to the Commission is like being elected to a Condo, or HOA BOD.

Every decision you make can sometimes impact someone you know, so it has a tendency to become personal, whereas a larger government body does not have that problem.

Written on Editorial Cartoons: Dec. 8, 2013:

Despite the dog and pony show currently in progress, Nelson Mandela was a Communist. He rotted in jail for 27 years for a good reason, he tried to overthrow the South African government. He was also the mediator for Libya in negotiations about the Pan Am bombing in Scotland and it is believed he was instrumental in the release of the guy that was in jail that did it. Besides dignitaries and others connected with the aids movement it will be interesting to see who shows up for his funeral. Also, now that Billy Graham is circling the drain, it will be equally interesting to see who shows up or doesn't show up for his funeral, hear that Leroy?

As far as I'm concerned, another Communist has just wound up on the dung heap of history, and I cannot understand why the Flag of this Once Great Country is flying at half mast.

Written on Guest Commentary: Hidden agenda on the Smokehouse Bay Bridge?:

I know there are allot of people upset about the Mass Mutual expansion of the Marriott which is waiting for the approval of the City.

We now have Councilmen who have business experience, so lets look at the Smokehouse Bridge as a business issue, and make the replacement of it a part of the approval of the expansion because of the increased truck traffic, and make Mass Mutual pay for it.

It's a win/win for Mass Mutual and We the People.

Can anyone confirm that the City has given approval to Marriott's Crystal Shores timeshare for two more buildings???

Written on Two-vehicle accident slows traffic in front of Marco Island Marriott:

The good news is, the lights are back on in front of the Marriott.

The next potential place for a serious accident is the crosswalk leading from the parking lot at Collier and Swallow to the beach.

People crossing from the beach to the parking lot suddenly appear from behind a huge sign and overgrowth when you are Northbound on Collier.

Last year, after dark, I came within inches of hitting two "donkeys" crossing on bicycles.

I have mentioned my concerns many times to the "authorities", but apparently it went in one ear and out the other, so I guess we need to wait for an accident to occur before anyone pays attention.

Written on Two-vehicle accident slows traffic in front of Marco Island Marriott:

The good news is the driver of the car that was hit is fine.

The bad news, as of last night, is the street lights have been out in front of the Marriott, and at least two blocks South.

The wedding dress

A woman who had been married three times walked into a bridal shop one day and told the sales clerk that she was looking for a wedding gown for her fourth wedding.

"Of course, madam," replied the sales clerk, "exactly what type and color dress are you looking for?

The bride to be said, "A long frilly white dress with a veil."

The sales clerk hesitated a bit, then said, "Please don't take this the wrong way, but gowns of that nature are considered more appropriate for brides who are being married the first time - for those who are a bit more innocent, if you know what I mean? Perhaps ivory or sky blue would be nice?"

"Well," replied the customer, a little peeved at the clerk's directness, "I can assure you that a white gown would be quite appropriate. Believe it or not, despite all my marriages, I remain as innocent as a first-time bride.

You see, my first husband was so excited about our wedding, he died as we were checking into our honey moon hotel.

My second husband and I got into such a terrible fight in the limo on our way to our honeymoon
hotel that we had that wedding annulled immediately and never spoke to each other again."

"What about your third husband?" asked the sales clerk.

"That one was a Democrat," said the woman, "and every night for four years, he just sat on the edge of the bed and told me how good it was going to be, but nothing ever happened."

Written on Two-vehicle accident slows traffic in front of Marco Island Marriott:

First, the female driving the car in the North bound lane must have been going very fast and not paying any attention to cause this much damage, and nearly killing the driver of the other car that was crossing Collier Blvd going to the Marriott parking area.

Second, the amount of growth in the center of Collier Blvd in front of the Marriott, and other sections of Collier has had me concerned for many years.

Third, I must pass through the Marriott section of Collier Blvd at least four times per day, and NEVER go over 20 MPH.

1P,

Unfortunately, for our Once Great Country, Obama is not in the rear view mirror, and I cannot imagine Biden doing any more damage than what has been done by Obama to date, and what he will do during the rest of his term. Regardless of the outcome of the next election, I don’t think we will ever be the same Country our Forefathers envisioned.

Here is another example of the “under the table” stuff going on behind our backs, and no one will ever convince me that Obama isn’t aware of things like this. ITS JUST ME AN' LEROY

A guy stopped at a local gas station, and after filling his tank, he paid the bill and bought a soft drink. He stood by his car to drink his cola and watched a couple of men working along the roadside. One man would dig a hole two or three feet deep and then move on. The other man came along behind him and filled in the hole. While one was digging a new hole, the other was 25 feet behind filling in the hole.

The men worked right past the guy with the soft drink and went on down the road.

"I can't stand this," said the man tossing the can into a trash container and headed down the road toward the men. "Hold it, hold it," he said to the men. "Can you tell me what's going on here with all this digging and refilling?"

"Well, we work for the government and we're just doing our job," one of the men said.

"But one of you is digging a hole and the other fills it up. You're not accomplishing anything. Aren't you wasting the taxpayers' money?"

"You don't understand, mister," one of the men said, leaning on his shovel and wiping his brow. "Normally there's three of us: Me, Elmer and Leroy. I dig the hole, Elmer sticks in the tree, and Leroy here puts the dirt back.

You see with the government sequestering, they are not buying any more trees so Elmer's job's been cut ... so now it's just me an' Leroy.
