Explain how you are saving the public (spelled right) dollars when the person is going to jail, having to post bond, hire a lawyer and fight the charges. How is not impounding the car saving so much dollars. The arrested party pays the tow & impound fee or lose the vehicle. No public dollars spent.

Maybee you should read up on the Law. If a person is called to "operate" the vehicle in question follow now this may be hard for you, the MIPD turn over "custody" of the vehicle to said driver that was called how would MIPD confirm that the vehicle was insured for this "substitute driver" to legally operate on the public roadway. Say two blocks away the new driver runs you over and then you claim your injured. The driver has no coverage as it is not their vehicle, the insurance is denied, MIPD turned over custody to the "new driver". Who is liable? In your spare time (all day) burn some of Mom's electric in a usefull way and try to come up with a answer.

That is why Law Enforcement Tow and Impound vehicles. The chain of custody is not broken. But you already new that right smart guys.

20andout If you read the article he was arrested and sited for Operating With a suspended license. That was a Motor Vehicle not a bicycle. He was stopped for a License Plate Tag Light not a bell on a bicycle. That is where the vehicle is in play. In my town the vehicle is impounded when the driver is ARRESTED. No calling in drivers.

August says $$$$$$ saved when feasible. How about the bond to get out of jail. This is plain and stupid. What type of Police Agency would allow someone who is under arrest to Call a driver to the scene to drive away the car. Sounds like poor work to me.

If a vehicle is involved in a crime that is one thing but when the stop was for an infraction which resulted in the driver not having a legal right to drive law enforcment do have optons believe it or not.Anytime the police can avoid taking responsibility for property such as a vehicle the tax payer has less exposure to claims involving theft of property or damage, a good thing $$$$$, right?

The tag light is the oldest trick in the book to stop a vehicle. It is used as a tool to get at the very least a "defective violation" but in the bigger picture used to further the stop.

The big question here is when the person under arrest is then allowed to call someone to drive their car home???? I would think that the car would be towed and impounded for the driver was under arrest.

So, on one hand the MIPD stops you for a bulb and on the other they want to save the felon from tow & impound fees. That sounds off to me.

Notice to all criminals: Precheck your vechicle for bulbs and safety items before coming to Marco Island. Also have a driver on call just in case. What a joke.

Facts MrBreeze, the perimeter seach was established subsequent to the gun fight and the boat and home were just outside the margin unfortunately. But, no one was hurt so the capture was successful, are you unhappy about that? No, the perimeter was not the whole city even though the whole city was on lock down,so?
The law enforcement pro's in Boston and I mean the police did an excellent job and did not need assitance from anyone. I personally am not a fan of this City but I would say that the police response was just excellent in all respects.
So MrBreeze, instead of writing a bunch of nonsense on this blog and calling me names, consider having a drink later today and take a little ride on your electric powered scooter for some fresh air.Perhaps this will help you clear your head old boy.
