Written on City’s financial planning for 2010 begins early with new committee :

MarcoFacts, M. Lazarus is interested only in promoting his own investments on Marco (Tract K). That fact alone should disqualify him. Yale is a qualifiying factor to sit on a citizens committee? Isn't that where our current President went to school. Look what good that did for our country. All lawyers should be automatically disqualified from sitting on citizens advisory committees just on principal. If they want to impact our government they should run for public office. There are plenty of good citizens to draw from. Let's get some NEW names.

Written on City charter review and forensic audit process to bring accountability, transparency:

More examples of R. Joel's negative impact on the selection of contracts. It appears Mr. Joel may be working for Quality and not the city. Time to have a review committee to look at how contracts are awarded. Better yet, why don't we just get a good replacement for Joel? What do we need a vacuum truck for? I thought the sewer was sealed. Debris should not be entering our sewer system. That's what we were told by Joel when Butch Neylon explained how a sewer worked. What happened?

Written on Letters To The Editor: Passionate personalities!:

This is the same fellow who along with a few other distinquished citizens, plan to make a bundle off of Tract K. Tract K is public land and it's intended use was to benfit our children. These investors have found a better use for it. A way to line their pockets under the guise of energy conservation. I am one of the old geezers in the gallery. From up here we can see what you are doing Gary.

Written on Nesting bald eagles on Tract K drawing new attention with solar development plans :

islandman4now: Thank you for the link. This document confirms that those who brought us the sewer fight, the reprehensible defense of asbestos contamination of a public park and major roadway, attempted LCEC heist and our incompetant paid for City Counsel, are the same people who will now begain reaping (rapeing) Marco Iland's public lands for their own personal gain. Track K is just the beginning folks. You have to wonder what they have in mind for that valuable property known as Veteran's park. The list of names on this document are to be the new owners of Marco Island. The document clearly identifies the good ole boys network. They have big plans folks and those plans do not include any of you, including you foolish Condo owners. This list represents the political and financial power base of our city. They are selfish people and consider public parks and open spaces as theirs for the taking. You, the poeple of Marco Island have helped them by voting for their people and placing them on the City Council. You deserve only what these fellows will throw at you.

Written on Sewage spill leaves mess on Marco:

hourigan, thank you for the vote of confidence. As I see it, one only needs to apply common sense and learned experience along with the willingness to accept responsibility and understanding the difference between right and wrong, to be efffective. Let's see what our Council does with this recent incident. They certainly have experienced plenty of mishaps, bad decisions and attempts at covering up to draw from. As for being able to point out the culprits, that's easy. Just look for people in positions of trust that ignore a problem, refuse to accept responsilbity for their work, cannot bare to spend the time to research, will not challenge suboridinates, delay decisions requiring corrective action, are secretive, make excuses for their failures, practice the art of coverup, openly ignore the will of their constituents or those who deny a problem even exits. That's ten. Yup, one for each finger.

Written on Sewage spill leaves mess on Marco:

hourigan82247, I see you still have your head buried deep in the sand. If Thompson made the decision to not issue an island-wide health warning, then he made ANOTHER BAD JUDGEMENT. It will be interesting to see who on the Council shows any interest in this matter. Council, if you are not keeping score be warned, some of us are. Is Rony Joel going to be held accountable for this mishap? It was a maintenance job on an existing lift station. Someone has to be held accountable in our City Government or is that something that the new generation of leadership does not believe in?

Written on Letters to the editor: Dec. 10, 2008:

Dr. Pelc: Do not worry about these birds. By the time the good ole boys are ready to lay down their chips, the birds will be gone. Since the original developers of our island, no investors have ever had the financial, political and economic power these fellows have. They will have no trouble developing their project on public land that they have made their own at our expense. Wait and see what they have planned for the New Veteran's Park.

Written on POLL: Marco Island to keep City Manager Steve Thompson:

Leroy, it really bothers you when someone moves out of Marco and then keeps on monitoring events here. Why? As for Mcmullan, 50% of the facts is better then the lack of true information coming out of City Hall. Who are the wannabe politicians and conmen? Did McMullan run for office on Marco Island? Did he con anyone here? Is your wannabee politician John Arceri's boy Waldack? Is the conman you are referring to the same fellow that brought us the STRP? Or the fellow who wants to sell us a new bridge? Oh, and let's not forget the people who want our taxpayers to finance the acquisition of LCEC. Or perhaps you are referring to the upstanding investors who want to turn publicly owned property (tract K), into a money making scheme? The same fellows that don't mind destroying a bald eagle nesting area (tract K) just so they can line their pockets at taxpayers expense? Somewhere in there are the people you must be talking about. Don't be surprised if those birds are found poisoned one day. Actually, the list of investors that are on record for the solar energy scam are the same fellows that brought you our current political team running the city, these are the "good ole boys" aren't they? Several of them even serve on the new power committee designed to recommend the purchase of LCEC (conflict of interest?). Mr. Foster and Mr. Mcmullan are not your problem, the residents of our community are the problem and we are becoming informed, thanks to people like Mr. Foster and Mr. McMullan.

Written on POLL: Marco Island to keep City Manager Steve Thompson:

I stand corrected islandman4now. There is no negativity (outside of City Hall) regarding Dana's report. The need for an audit is well supported in his report and the mass of backup material he collected on his own inititive. The gossip offerred above is not substantiated and is likely offerred as a red herring, it stinks too. It is so unfortunate that the Council did not have an opportunity to act earlier. Our City has wasted so much money covering up the ineptness of city staff. Trotter's ability to convince the council that they must always wait for one more meeting before debating or making decisions regarding this financial fiasco has served to delay getting to the bottem of this. So, what's another half a million to set the record straight? Our City needs a complete in depth audit even if it takes a year of disruption to accomplish it. We need to stop all the gossip and bring back confidence in our local government.
