"Batte also expressed concern that Code Compliance Supervisor Liz Carr, who was on vacation, was not at the meeting.
“I’m very disappointed the supervisor is not here today. I’m sure there’s a good reason, but it still bothers me,” he said."------Hey, Einstein - she was on vacation! I'm sure it was planned in advance! It was you and your prescient colleagues who decided to have your grandiose CEB meeting when she wasn't going to be there. Great idea!
Small minds with power.
You mean, an economic collapse as bad as the Bush Global Economic Collapse? Gosh, I hope not!
Praying for peace....how's that worked out so far?
This story has been online for a week now, and, apparently, nobody at this fine news organization has noticed that "manager" is spelled incorrectly in the headline.
Or maybe the city has an official "manger."
The ***holes who voted for it should pay.
"It seems that any physician would also understand?"
Having met quite a few, I would say that many doctors are just plain stupid. Not all, but many. Outside of their specialty, they are absolutely lost.
Herb, you did good. Your designs were much better than what we've seen since.

From such an unbiased source like the National Review. Why not Fox News? Or the NRA newsletter?
Nobody's taking away your guns. Limiting the types of weapons allowed to be used by the citizens has already been in effect, in case you didn't realize.
Last I checked, surface-to-air missiles are banned. So are tanks. And hand grenades. Are your panties in a bunch about those, too?
Do you LIKE seeing mass murders and cop-killings? Because, other than making the impotent feel powerful, that's what assault rifles and high-capacity magazines are all about.
As Ronald Reagan said, "I do not believe in taking away the right of the citizen for sporting, or hunting, and so forth, or for home defense. But I do believe that an AK-47, a machine gun, is not a sporting weapon or needed for defense of the home."
Number of murders by firearms in 2011

"This president has vowed to take guns away from law abiding citizens, and violate our second amendment rights to defend ourselves..."
Really? A vow? Show us the quote. Or is this just an exaggerated claim by a paranoid old racist.
Dude, there already is gun control. Last I checked, surface-to-air missiles are banned. So are tanks. And hand grenades. Are your panties in a bunch about those, too?
in response to Sparky100: MRZ333, You are so, so very wrong. NO responsible gun owner has ever or will ever think their weapon is a toy. I was taught to shoot by my farther. His lesson number one which I will never forget even today was this weapon is not a toy, this weapon can and will kill someone. Michael is spot on with his assumption that the problem is with the mentally ill, not the weapon. More people are killed by knives, clubs and bats annually than by assault “weapons” by a 4 to 1 ratio. Do you think we should ban all knives, clubs and baseball bats, no. The mental health industry does need to be more proactive in identifying these people.

But assault weapons account for a higher share of murders of police officers and mass public shootings than knives, clubs, and baseball bats.
in response to Sparky100: To all you anti gun supporters. Over history it has been proven it does not work. Nothing good comes out of disarming law abiding citizens. If you want a present day example just look at Chicago. A city with one of the most strict gun control laws in the country, just look at their murder rate. I have said it before "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns". Really do we want the Marco gang to be the only armed ones on the island.

"Gun rights supporters will hold a Town Hall meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Marco Presbyterian Church..."
...because Jesus loves assault weapons.
Thanks for getting this naming right. Everybody knows who Stan is.
Good job, Logan!
You sound like you think Obama wants to take away ALL guns - if that's what you really think, you're...well, misinformed (to be polite).
We are already not allowed to own bazookas, flame-throwers, surface-to-air missiles, hand grenades, and automatic weapons. Where do you draw the line?
It seems to me that the frequency of mass killings in recent years would indicate that high-capacity magazines and military style assault weapons in the hands of the populace might actually make us less safe.
It's not the gun's fault. It also wasn't a bat's fault that Babe Ruth hit all those home runs. But if he didn't have a bat, he wouldn't have hit ANY home runs.
We already have gun control - nobody is allowed to have automatic weapons, grenades, bazookas, tanks, or heat-seeking missiles. Where do you draw the line? I think the line should be pulled back to where these incidents are not so easy to commit. Hunters can still hunt; people can still protect themselves. But people don't really need access to assault rifles.
It isn't solely a mental health issue, although that certainly is a big part of this tragedy. But until we completely eliminate the mental health issue, howzabout we stop having assault weapons so readily available? Seems to me we'd all be safer. Common sense.

How was your KKK meeting, RayPray?
It's hard to believe that there are still ignorant neanderthal racists like this among us.
Possible solutions were discussed, including parking on adjacent city-owned right of way, but as Prigge reminded the board, "It's not our job to solve the problem."
That's our City for you. Not solving problems for 15 years!
Oh, you nattering nabobs of negativity! Never happy unless you're unhappy.

Did you see it happen? Thought so. So why are you ready to hang the guy from a tree? Innocent until proven guilty in America, bigfish.
And no, he didn't "chock" the kid. He put his hand on his shoulder, according to all parties who were there to witness it.
Anybody who sees the Lely coach as giving the player an "atta boy" has an obvious bias. He smacked him!
Mike put his hand on the kid's shoulder, something that I would guess happens every day in classrooms everywhere - and the teachers don't end up "hanging from a tree." It does not constitute an assault, and it does not warrant being banned from coaching.
bigfishkd - you apparently have a chip on your shoulder about Mike. You just don't have the guts to talk to him man-to-man.
"Students performed up to or better than district standards"
My kids have been very active in youth sports for the past few years, and have had many different coaches. Some are terrible, some are very good. Mike is one of the best.
Throw away that thesaurus and speak like a human. And quit driving if you can't handle 35mph.
Polygraph exams are not infallible. The examiner only said it was 'possible' - not with 'certainty' or even 'likely.'

Yep, his recovery from Bush's disastrous presidency isn't nearly fast enough.
Look at all those old white dudes.
Andy Delgado is an excellent baseball coach and a great mentor to his players. Congrats on the win, and I look forward to next year's team making progress.

Read what you wrote very carefully, and see how many mistakes you can spot. I found 4 in just 4 sentences, or (hint!) sentence fragments.

No, we're not. Some might be, but not all...certainly not most.
Some of us want to send our kids to a school in our own community, instead of busing them to the next town. Others think an 8:30am start time makes more sense, or fits into their daily schedule better. Others like the curriculum and focus on STEM. Others want their kids to be able to participate on sports teams, which they might not be able to do at a larger school. Others like the student-teacher ratio, with more opportunities for individualized instruction.
To categorize all of us with one broad stroke is absurd, just as it would be to say that everybody who chooses to live on Marco Island is an elitist jerk because of the lack of diversity here.
Again, I wonder why there isn't this type of animosity to parents who choose to send their kids to the other charter school on the island, instead of sending them to Manatee Middle School. Why aren't they called elitist jerks?
The City Council is a joke, Code Compliance is full of power hungry A Holes, and there are more cops (and problem cops) than we need. Disincorporate!

Obama inherited a mess from Bush, who inherited a sweet deal from Clinton. Obama's slowly but surely making progress. The "do-nothing" congress certainly didn't help much. Santorum, Romney, and Gingrich are three very weak candidates.
Do you feel the same way about parents who send their kids to the other charter school on the island? Do you support Manatee Middle School over MICMS?
Awesome game! Kit Fowler pitched brilliantly!
Why was he a "former" member of the MIFD?
Roads were paved with a mix of asphalt and seashells, you occasionally had to stop for an alligator to cross Collier, there was only one traffic light, and there were no grotesque McMansions. It was definitely a different time.
