Written on Marco police building gets formal christening:

How much did this building cost and can the Island afford it?

Written on Allen fourth to announce City Council candidacy:

I agree. Marco needs a Mayor. More political accountability. Although I've never met Mr. Allen, he sounds like a good addition to the to the Neylon, Batte, etc. team.

Written on Councilor wants July 16 meeting canceled:

The division in this council is a sign that the ruling junta (yes, you too Mr. Moss) is about to be deposed. Terri, your vote is key; thanks for recognizing what's really going on. Can't wait to see the election results in JANUARY.

Written on POP gets signatures certified for referendum:

Now let the people decide.

Written on Neylon third to announce City Council candidacy:

Lauralbi1: As a long time property owner on the Island, Butch Neylon has probably paid more property taxes than you have. He puts his money where his mouth is! Joeywalnuts: You used to be somewhat entertaining, but you really need some new material. Everytime you guys write, I'll personally offer to help bring a vanload of voters to the polls for Butch and Joe.

Written on Neylon third to announce City Council candidacy:

When looking for a candidate, one usually has trouble finding a person who is both intelligent AND has the ability to communicate on a personal level with voters without seeming arrogant. That person is Butch Neylon. There is no person on Marco who can match Butch's grasp of the issues yet down to earth style. Butch was there from the beginning, fighting the fight against abuse of power at city hall before it was fashionable. Butch did what he thought was best for the people and came under direct attack for it. He not only survived, he became more determined and pushed the Island in a positive, and future-oriented direction. He will make an outstanding councilor. Don't just vote for Butch, join his team.

Written on Voters reject property taxes paying for sewers:

Au contraire, Mr. Ed34145. Rather than draw his own conclusions, the consummate reporter that he is, Mr. Bania receives extensive comment from both sides of the issue. Looks like he invited other folks to comment who declined. Perhaps you just don't like the outcome of the vote?

Written on Moss earns coveted credentials renewal:

Oh, please editors, take his smug looking mug off the site. I'm trying to eat lunch here!

Written on Moss earns coveted credentials renewal:

So? This clearly was not a job evaluation where the mananger would have received flunking grades. Go POP! It's just another one of those "look good" awards the city manager association creates for its membership.

Written on POP tries again for election referendum:

It is through the tenacity of folks like Russ Columbo that life on the Island will soon change for the better.

Written on Hall second to announce City Council candidacy :

Optomist: I hope you're right.

Written on Hall second to announce City Council candidacy :

Good ideas. Wrong candidate. Mr. Hall simply hasn't been in the area long enough. He'll be called a carpetbagger. The cause will suffer. I wouldn't want him to drain votes from someone like Joe Batte who also has good ideas but has a home grown resume.

Written on Letter: Stop the STRP:

Russ, as usual, is RIGHT ON!

Written on Saunders says ‘no need’ to exempt Marco:

Why would any city council person in his/her right mind ever want to exempt his/her constituents from property tax reform? Nuts! Good going Sen. Saunders. Wish you would run for higher office! Have the liberal Dems taken over the city council?

Written on More asbestos found on Marco:

Bill Moss must resign or be fired.

Written on On the Town: CARES fan’s view: Legal schmeagle:

I'm the poor blogger Mr. Farmer attacked from his ivory tower I must have hit a raw nerve. I'll try and figure out a way to do that again!

Written on Charges dropped against nine Lely seniors involved in senior prank:

With limited law enforcement resources, I applaud the decision not to seek charges. The school system should punish them. The sheriff's department should focus on violent criminals.

Written on Class action suit filed against city:

How can this lawsuit be frivolous? The city says connect in 90 days and the state says connect in a year. Sounds like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. The city can't give an unbiased oponion so let the courts decide,

Written on CARES battles city over attorney's fees:

No, No, No! The Enmans won because they stopped the city from building a sewer lift station on their front lawn. What happened here is that the council flip flopped out of vindictiveness after voting not to seek attorneys' fees. The motion filed by the city is a frivolous document and CARES should win attorneys fees over that. When the council sues CARES they are in essence suing thousands of citizens on Marco who support CARES! It's the city's own fault for several years of mismanagement that they have made themselves a bulls eye for lawsuits, recalls, etc. Good council members who listen and don't insult their citizens and a city manager with people skills could have prevented all the litigation in the first place, never mind who may or may not be legally correct. That's what's called leadership. Time for a complete house claening at city hall.

Written on Excavation of Site C asbestos cement material begins:

LauralbI1: If the asbestos is in small pieces, how did it get that way if it was not crushed???? Duh.

Written on Florida Supreme Court to hear CARES case :

A recent blogger said the fat lady hasn't sung yet. Well, he's right and Bill Moss and his cronies on the council know the jig is up on their elaborate scheme.

Written on Florida Supreme Court to hear CARES case :

I challenge Ms. Douglass to post the final results of the asbestos settlement on the city's website. The citizens and CARES won. May I expect website post Ms. Douglass crediting CARES with th stoppage of the open air asbestos crushing? I will be truly amazed if you respond to this, but maybe you have the guts. Let's see.

Written on City agrees to 90 days to seek repayment:

Doug Enman, Ed Foster, and Butch Neylon all are heroes. Good going guys!

Written on Two say asbestos floated to top, call planting 'ludicrous' :

What are Reinke's environmental qualifications? What does he know about hydrology, asbestos, etc? His statement shows the bias or lack of experience of the Marco Island Police Dept. The police should recuse themselves from this matter. They are incapable of conducting a competent investigation.

Written on Citizens group, city remain tight lipped about dispute:

I still can't stop laughing. Bill Moss's flack, Lisa Douglass, lecturing the citizens on the handling of asbestos! I thought I'd seen it all, but this power crazed crew at city hall never ceases to amaze me.

Written on Foster acknowledges having pieces of asbestos:

Written on Foster acknowledges having pieces of asbestos:

On this Thanksgiving Day, we should all give thanks to CARES and other good citizens who brought the asbestos problem to light. Without involvement of concerned citizens, the city and its contractor would probably be smashing asbestos near homes and businesses TODAY. Thank you CARES!

Written on Foster acknowledges having pieces of asbestos:

Can somebody explain to me what the the Marco Island Police Dept is doing inserting itself into a FEDERAL environmental issue? The local police don't know a darn thing about handling asbestos, are an arm of city hall, and should recuse themselves from this matter. After all it's the city that was storing TONS of crushed pipe in open air near residences and local businesses. Have the police interviewed Bill Moss? I doubt it. Instead they are more interested in Mr. Foster who is the man most responsible for bringing the city's massive violation of federal environmental laws to light. This smells of abuse of power.
