It's obvious that a few of the bloggers are bank hierarchy trying to defend and justify their mistakes! It was all greed, let’s face it, everyone at the top just saw $$ signs. Tony may have had nothing to do with the banks downfall but his dad did buy a distressed property from the bank for less than the owner, a single mother, had offered. This is a sad story known all around the island about the greed of bank and insider deals.
Now someone has the audacity to blame the residents and business owners because loans weren't repaid, this is disgusting to me. We are all hard working individuals struggling to survive. The bank made bad loans in a clasping economy. The Feds will iron this all out and I can't wait until their books are opened up!
I'm laughing out loud at Putnams blog. John you are such a hypocrite asking for people to be respectful when it comes to Kiester and then attacking Tucker and Popoff in the same breath. I have a great idea, why don't you call Rob names to his face? I know him well and could arrange a meeting. In fact, I'm going to make sure he reads your blog above. I for one am proud that Mr. Kiester supported the naming. He showed real leadership and compassion. Mr. Kiester was the victim of a lot of Tuckers abuse. If he can put Tuckers crass behavior behind him why can't you all?
Sounds like they should have given him a breathalyzer before they let him drive home, it was terrible conduct. If Rob had allowed this kind of disrespect at council meetings then there would be more of it. He did the right thing by removing this reprehensible man!

Rob won’t run again because his family comes first and these are difficult times for many young families. If he did run I assure you he would win and win effortlessly! His children are his life and why would anyone want such a thankless job with bloggers like smeg running their crazy mouths off. He was President of the Marco Island Charter Middle School board and too many other volunteer organizations to even mention. What have you done for Marco smeg besides use our dog park? More misinformation jw! The Marco Man cost the city $10k not $50k. As for the parks, you are so detached from Marco Island and its residents its crazy. There were hundreds of Island volunteers who built that park for our children in the rain. My husband and I, our friends, grandparents, children and many civic minded people joined together to make a wonderful park for our kids. Why were'nt you there Mr. Putnam? Don't bother answering that, you were probably at your full-time residence up north somewhere. It amazes me that the people who complain the most do the least!

Leroy, I remember how upset Terri was that this guy, Putnam, kept sending inappropriate and threatening emails to her. I know for a fact that she called the police chief and almost had him arrested. He sent her an apology, what a creep.
Mr. Kiester, my husband and I started to like you and felt you were a good addition to the council. We realized that the political climate several years back was not a good one and even though we didn’t always agree with your votes, we felt that you were a very good councilor with good judgment. That all changed at the recent forensic audit meeting when you were so mean to that poor auditor. Then you brought up your Sunshine violations, something we forgot about. Up until this time we had planned to support you in your reelection bid but we are reevaluating that now; there is no place for your aggressive behavior on council. We watched the meeting on channel 99 and my five year old was quick to point out you said “dam it.” I admit as a parent it’s not the first time he’s heard that word but we expect more from our elected officials. It seems you want to get even with anyone that opposed you. What about all of the negative things done to the councilors that supported the STRP, i.e. recall attempts, lawsuits, personal property damage, threats, etc. Those councilors took the high road and moved on; it is unfortunate that you didn’t do the same! Please re-instill our faith in you and stop all of the negativity.

All schools have a couple bad apples Marconian but that doesn't give the you or others the right to judge the whole school. My kids love Lely and are proud of their school. I agree with Leroy, it's just a bunch or retirees that know nothing about Lely complaining. The parents and students love it there.

Of what concern are Marco's youth to you? liberator100 has a very valid question, "what have you done for the children of Marco Island?" Name one thing! What have any of the people pushing for a HS on the island done for Marco? I have two kids in Lely and one that graduated from Lely who is now attending Stetson. There are many success stories of kids who attended Lely and went on to major universities and military academy's. This is just one more thing for the complainers to complain about. Get a life...

I suspect most people reading your baloney don't pay much attention to you and your skewed view of reality. I agree with ejburger in that Mr. Recker was irresponsible in his inquisition against Mr. Thompson. My 13 year old daughter called your letter to the editor "nonsense," and I concur.
Very sorry to see Dana leave but good for him and his career development. My question of concern is if the city charter says that councilors must stay out of personel issues then why are councilors Kiester and Recker putting themselves in the middle of this? And why is Terri involved in this at all? She is no longer a councilor.
As a previous active member of MITA I must make it clear that MITA is a small organization run by small minded people.
I thought that after the election the negativity would stop but some people still countinue to attack our city. Misinformation is still the rule for some speakers. It's about time council stood up for themselves!
I seriously thought we heard the last of these people. I tell my children that persistence is a virtue but what in the world is this man trying to accomplish. Bill McMullan’s involvement in the last election thankfully sealed the fate of the four anti-city candidates. Obviously the two bloggers defending McMullan haven't heard the news -- they lost the election by a landslide. We really don't care what you have to say. We believe in the people that we voted into office, give it a break for crying out loud!
This is really a sad testament to Mr. Columbo's skewed views on reality and like, CelebrateMarco, I am seriously beginning to question Mr. Columbo's integrity. I have always thought of Russ as a gentleman and balanced person politically. After reading his one-sided letters to the Editor (starting with the one after the election where he called the majority "uneducated"). I now believe he has been at the core of all the negativity.
Russ didn't get his way when his candidates lost the election. His council was going to make Godfrey Davies city manager...whew, thank God sanity prevailed and the majority spoke loud and clear. Maybe it was Mr. Columbo who ran the show, not Mr. Davies. Because Mr. Kiester carries out Russ' agenda then Russ attempts to make Mr. Kiester a councilor of the people...all of it is pretty transparent and very pitiful. I really believe if Mr. Kiester made up his own mind he would be a very good city councilor.
Many of us parents are interested in politics and watch the meetings. I have noticed that Mr. Kiester says one thing during discussion then votes another way. I think he really believes that he should vote one way but thinks if he does he will make his vocal minority supporters mad at him. Problem is that he is an outcast and has surrounded himself with outcasts. Get with the game plan Mr. Kiester and vote your conscience, not Russ Columbo's agenda.

I haven't posted a blog since the election but after reading all of the nonsense from bloggers like blackwidow, van, dc and smokeyjoe I felt the need to once again remind the cavedwellers that they are in the minority. They were given a very strong message at the polls that the community has had enough of their pessimism and lies.
What has caused all of the problems on Marco is that a couple of individuals with personal agendas have tried to pass themselves off as experts and leaders and people followed them. Where are your experts and leaders now? Once they realized that their charade was exposed they left the island in shame and disgrace.
We had a chance to pay only $10k for the sewers but the anti-sewer people campaigned against this plan. A guy actually came to my door and told me not to vote for this plan. I don't understand this line of thinking at all; these people cost us money!!
We have a great city council right now; they ask a lot of questions and for the most part have no agenda other than to do what is best for Marco Island. Other bloggers have said it and I feel I must repeat it. “The STRP is a done deal so stop your complaining!” Our council was elected by the majority and that is the American way! And the majority on Marco Island is an intelligent, well-informed majority!

Hawke1, wow very scary. Did this actually happen at a Marco council meeting? If so, the police should have arrested this guy!
Mr. Foster, there is nothing silly about this; five people were killed in Kirkwood, MO. The city of Naples is installing metal detectors and bullet proof barriers. You and Uhler are obviously so desperate to argue that you create things to fight about. Increased security in light of people losing their lives is a commonsense thing to do. Maybe with that 173 IQ you had to sacrifice commonsense.
Mr. Kiester should resign. He is a lone wolf on City Council and will get nothing accomplished. His recent guilty verdict has embarrassed our city enough. He should apologize for an error in judgement and then resign. Then the City Council could appoint the next highest vote getter who I believe was Mr. Batte or someone else who has been active in our city.
Excellent letter Mr. Moss; you are right on with your observations. The people that I know on this island have never been enthusiastic about the STRP but virtually everyone I talk to had the common sense to realize the STRP was inevitable. Moreover, people were just tired of the bullies that wrote negative letters, attended council meetings and acted like immature children and cost our city unnecessary legal fees and embarrassment.
When an angry uninformed resident threatened one of our city councilors and his family this was despicable. For our family, friends and my husband and I this was the last straw. We had heard of people being bullied, booed and harassed at council meetings not to mention the barrage of trucks and signs on the north side of the bridge to our beautiful island.
Marco has always been a loving and peaceful community until the anti-city people moved here. Enough is enough. I am fully convinced that this election had very little to do with sewers and everything to do with citizens wanting civility. Good luck to the new council and we hope and pray the naysayers go away for good!
Mr. Columbo, did it even occur to you for one second that you could be the one that is wrong?
The City Council has made many attempts to make the STRP more affordable. Specifically Councilors DisCuillo and Popoff have worked to make this project as equitable as possible. There was a referendum to have a flat sewer assessment of $10,000 and the voters rejected this plan.
If you remember, Neylon, Hall, Davies and others openly campaigned against this plan. Do not point to our City Council, who have endured enough abuse, look to the individuals that campaigned against this fair and equitable plan.
Mr. Kiester, you may not know this but it is customary for the losers to congratulate the winners publicly. In fact, I did not read any congratulatory remarks on election night, all I read was more nonsense about developers and density. Sorry citizens and sore losers do not make good leaders. Last time the voters made two mistakes, this time the electorate paid attention!

I urge all voters to vote for Gibson, Recker, Trotter & Waldack. Combined they have over 50 years of residency on Marco Island. They live here year round and will promote honest, professional and environmentally sound government.
Unlike Hawke1, I care about the waters in and around Marco Island not only for myself but for my children and nieghbors. Make your vote count and vote for candidates that will make the right fiscal & environmental decisions and complete the sewer program!
