The iguana's on Marco are not natural to south west florida, however have become quite the naturists, tanning in the sun. As an informed iguana lover, but not owner, these beautiful creatures are veggie eating leave me alone lizards. Ive come across several on marco, and the second you raise an arm for a picture, they scatter into the brush, or up a tree.
I am more concerned about the growing monitor lizard population in Cape Coral. This is a problem, unlike the Iguana's . Monitor lizards are meat eating fear nothing lizards, who need to be stopped from populating, before we consider what to do with the Iguana's. Another concern to watch for is the growing population of Coyotes on Marco and now Isle of Capri. There have been 2 on Marco and now one of Isle of Capri tormenting other animals. Coyote's can get your little dog, or cat and can definitly get through your lanai screening, if they see a meal readily available. I would be more concerned about seeing a coyote on my property than an Iguana!! It's been said that if you live a mile out from the golf course, to please keep your pets indoors or close to you on walks in the evening. This is hunting time for the coyotes. Ignore the Iguana's, we have bigger, furrier issue's at hand.

Doesn't our island and surrounding area provide anything better to do than sit on the computer and throw stakes at each other? This isn't saying much for anyone on this island!

I am not a dog owner, but I work with dogs and do believe that a dog park is needed on Marco Island. Not just any dog park, but a place with rules and restrictions. What's so wrong about giving our pets a peice of Marco Island? The beaches are cut off to dogs, the parks are cut off to dogs. Why can't they have a place to socialize with their friends? The dog owners of M.I. will come together for their four legged family members to find a peaceful solution. There are PLENTY of spaces to place a dog park. I do NOT think that it should be near Mackle Park, as this is designated for the children, and could be a hazard to children with high allergies. But there are other places that need to be considered. I think the dog owners who support having a dog park need to come together, and possibly use the support of their own funds to come together. Whether you like it or not, there are dogs on Marco Island, ALOT of them. They need a place to socialize, as socialization plays an important role in the life of a dog.
And I will say again, no dog park at Mackle Park! It is not safe for the children, with or with out allergies.

Let me just say that this is such a shocking irresponsible situation, it really makes me wonder what our children really value their time with. Where is this kind of supervision found?
I dont mean to be mean, however I hope that the parents of these children are ashamed, mortified and awaken by a reality call.
In no such moment should the people who save all of our lives be defaced in such a manner, even in ones thoughts.
SHAME ON THOSE MISFITS!!

I didn't have much a say in any of the political aspects of Marco Island. But I will say that the Mackle Brothers did have a dream of having Marco Island as a resort destination. No, not Disney resort, a paradise resort. I think we hear the term resort, and automatically tihnk of Orlando and Miami. There's no way that Marco could ever become either one of those, so I wouldn't worry. Our surrounding landscape prevents this.
I was doing some reading just a few weeks ago about the history of the Marco Island Airport, and this Airport was originally built for resort flights, back in the..1950's? But that goes to show you, and prove to those stubborn ones that the Mackle Brothers had paradise resort hopes and dreams. Now, if we could just stop fighting with one another through our beautiful community papers and focus on the positive's for the future of Marco, I think we'll be okay!

I must say that I am one of the few that go out of my way to get OUT of the way and into the right lane. I'm not 80 and to short to drive yet!
On Guest commentary: Please have patience when driving on Marco's roads!

I happen to know Roadie, and what a adorable boy he is. His cast is finally off, and he's getting used to using his leg. He's coming along very well, and very quickly, and his new family cant wait to bring him home!!

I miss coconut island!! As a visitor to coconut island for 7 years every sunday, I do miss the serenity of it not being connected. However given that the waters have chosen coconuts fate, I am honored that the residents of hideaway beach share this beautiful peice of sand with it's visitors, instead of shooing us away. In no way have i ever seen Hideaway beach private. There are always walkers from Tigertail, or swimmers from Sandollar island, and lets not forget all our fellow boaters! I love Coconut Cove, as it is now called and hope to continue my streak of never missing a sunday in the sun due to a few personal choices and opinions!
On Hideaway Beach continues to wash out to sea
