What City do you live in Uhler??At least two (probable three) of the new Councilmen are more closely linked to the Power Elite of Marco than any of the old Councilmen ever dreamed of.Look at the facts! For at least the last six years these so called reformers have been on Boards, Commissions, and Ad Hoc Committees that controlled everything from our Water/Sewer Rates to our Tax Milage Rates!Reformers? They just reformed what they call themselves, the power stream is still intact on Marco and it still starts in the same dank pond it always did!
Except for that, how are those sewer treatment plants working out ?
I wish this was original work, but I fact Checked a lot of it and found it very sound:
A LITTLE GUN HISTORYIn 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
56 million defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control:
You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.
With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.
During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!
If you value your freedom, please spread this antigun-control message to all of your friends.
SWITZERLAND ISSUES EVERY HOUSEHOLD A GUN!SWITZERLAND'S GOVERNMENT TRAINS EVERY ADULT THEY ISSUE A RIFLE. SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!! IT'S A NO BRAINER!DON'T LET OUR GOVERNMENT WASTE MILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE ALL LAW ABIDING CITIZENS AN EASY TARGET.
Who cares? After the last Council Election most people are just sick of Politics. From what I know about those things its easier to say your sorry than to give your opponents ammunition to use against you. This is about as stupid as when this paper made a big deal about one candidate for Council taking out of state money and it turned out it was from his mother in law up north.I don't know this Guy, never meet him, but he's got a Wife that stood by him and that means a lot to me.Why not run something on the corruption that oozes out of City Hall? That place is a REAL Den of Vipers.
Ah, Marcos was ok. Capri had a much better one with fireworks and what not, but what do you expect,,,,,they don't pay City Taxes.Another example of NOT getting what we pay for.
He must have thought he was from Hideaway ?
So its average teachers, teaching mostly average kids to do an average job.Give them an average pay increase and expect them to keep up the average job.
Real Answer,Poorly designed, built, and operated Sewage Treatment Plant.
One of two answers 826, either its not there like they say or they are spending it on something else (Cop Boats) and have to hold off till the taxes come in.
MrBreeze writes:Maybee the term "fell asleep at the wheel" is the same as "called in drunk for work" the next day.
That sounds like City-Speak for Cop, I dont know that for sure, just saying.......
1Paradiselost Councilmen have a two Term Limit and City Manager serves 'At the pleasure' of the Council and can be fired at any time. A typical City Manager in Florida keeps their job from 6 to 8 years,
Dont fret about the bathrooms either, we can all go to the Club House, it seems Hideaway didn't have a problem opening it up to Donna for SEVERAL fund raisers and I think we are spending a LOT more to fix their beach than Donna did on renting someplace the average Joe isnt allowed.
Is this what they used to call a coincidence ?
I wish I was Rich and could hold Fund Raisers for Donna, then I could get MY Sea Wall fixed for free,,,,,,
Citizens Groups dont have any money. Does no one remember how those who wanted fire works had to grovel for money to pay for that, and it still came up short.
New open and honest Government ? Lets start seeing it !
Having lived here a long time I can tell you from personal experience that till we put in the sewers and treatment plant we had a red tide only once in a great while, and it usually came down from Naples. It should give us all something to think about and something the new City Council needs to look into.
How much is this going to cost us? Or is the City Attorney going to start earning his check by going after the drivers insurance?
When is this 'so called' new council going to boot these old guy out?Its a good place to start the Transparent Open Government we have been promised !
Fixing the malfunctioning Sewer Line might help too.
He gets $10,000 and no Jail Time, if it had been you or me we would get Jail Time and at least a $10,000 fine.Typical
Pffft, Lets just start with he has the worst attendance record of ANY City Councilperson ever or that he promised in an Election Debate to not to take any pay till our city debt was payed off and Zip not only does he take EVERY perk the City has to offer but took a secret raise as Council Chairman.Vote for who ever you want, but this time you know what you are getting.
College for 80% of those students is just a way to get them tens of thousands of dollars in debt. A quality vocational / apprenticeship will give them a way to make a living.Give a man a fish and you feed him today teach him to fish and feed him for life.
If they want to impress me they will take the pledge to sign their checks back to the City like Chairman Magel did.
A retired Councilman told me over Cocktails a week or so ago he didn't think it would Pass, his quote was he thought the 'Pigs had been to the troth to often' I guess he was right.
With all due respect, for that amount of money maybe he could move to Marco, or at least rent an apartment?I normally would ask the Chief in person but he hasn't been available when I was at City Hall the last couple of times.
I guess the City Council has made up its mind to do this if they already have the start date picked. Why are we waisting our time voting on this?
The last Councilor to propose rolling taxes back was Forcht and they could not wait to get him out.
Hi Al,The STRP was not a project to correct Leakage of the Sewers. STRP had a lot of Agendas, but Septic Tank Leakage wasnt one.The amount of Horse waste that will be created is near zero , people going to the the bathroom before the ride will create more waste than the horses.
Whats a Teachers Union do?It's not a dangerous jobIts well paid for the amount of education requiredThey have good benefitsThey don't have a monthly magazineWhats the Union do?
But when they are caught , drag um behind a Truck off the Island.
Putnam is to kind.
NOW I understand why they lowered the Speed Limit in some parts of town.Funny how stuff works on Marco, coincidences like STRPs and 4 lane bridges all over the place????
Because his staff and crew did such a good job on the FCATs ?????
So much for the Theme of the next City Council Meeting ?!?!?!
Downtown Naples, Marco Island and Golden Gate Estates were among the areas seeing slight increases, Hummmm, just the places where the Middle Class lives, Who would have guessed that ?
When you hear "You just can't make this stuff up" now you know YOU CAN!!!
At least its not a Strip Club or Housing Project
Did The Charter School take this test? If they did how did they do?
Why are we talking about this at all? Marco has no power to do anything on/to/about the Waterways. This argument was settled about 7 years ago when the Boating Community filed suit against the city. Am I mistaken?
Dated Moses I think?????
NOW little Johnny will be able to read !Maybe Donna can take on Cancer and Immigration for the afternoon and solve them too !
Did Donna bring her Lunch or did she eat at the Cafeteria ? Did she pay for it if she did or was that a 'Free Lunch" too?
Like I said, next year the teachers will have the test, teach the test, pass the test, and demand a raise for how well they did on the test.Whats the big deal? It's the way its always been, and the way it always will be.
Im not worried, now that the Teachers have the New Test they can teach IT like they always do and next years scores will be up and the teachers can demand a raise for all their hard work.No problem !
Dont forget the Restrooms they promised YEARS ago for the beach work they ALREADY GOT at our expense.Could it be that the Chairman of the Marco City Council lives in the effected Buildings ?Politics as usual.
I usually think you are a dink Klaus, and I'm a Republican, but Public Money shouldn't be used for anything Partizan. This is so wrong on so many levels, and I have to blame the Paper as much as anyone because they wait till Filia is running unopposed to reveal this. How can concerned voters make good decisions when the so called watch dogs hide information to protect the power brokers ?
Are they serious? So much for doing it for the good of the community , you even have to pay Donna to hang out amongst the people for lunch?Marco might have its problems at City Hall but we do have a City Council that basically works for free and isn't running back with lunch receipts because a voter was in the restaurant with them.
Who remembers that nothing will change when we become a City? Was I dreaming? An I in the Cliffhanger of Dallas ????
The Eagle takes comments on this and they shut down the Comment Function on Obamba ?Worst NewsPaper EVER !!!!
