Written on Local hairdressers get on the cutting edge:

ejburger Your disconnect with reality is reflected in your attack above. I never said anything negative about Popoff's family. I just pointed out that the angst that thousands of Marco Islanders feel against Rob Popoff runs the risk of impacting their business. If you couldn't feel the papable anger against these actions, you weren't at the same meeting I was. Rob didn't need to rub our noses in his arrogance by proclaiming that he was going to vote for the STRP all the way to the bitter end despite the wishes of the voters.

Written on Guidry seventh to announce Marco City Council candidacy:

A man of intellect, character, accomplishment and a repect for our citizens. He's got my vote along with Batte, Hall, and Neylon.

Written on Local hairdressers get on the cutting edge:

Note to Popoff family: If you had witnessed Rob's arrogance at last night's council meeting as he promised to do everything he can to advance the STRP until the new council takes over you would understand why the anger against him and the Popoff name continues to escalate. He knows this program will stop in March and his obvious vindictiveness towards the voters is an ugly sight. His votes are costing us millions in wasted spending. I suggest you go to the next couple of meetings and observe how much he is despised and why.

Written on Interim Marco city manager eyed:

Shoemaker is hand picked by Moss and Minozzi. He will be nothing more than more of the same and will be gone in short order when the new council gets control. The question is "How much damage will they do in the interim?"

Written on Guest commentary: Local police versus bridge repair - not a mutually exclusive matter:

Mr. Patterson is 100% right! If a city can't protect it's citizens, it has failed its purpose.

This council's compulsion for spending money at every opportunity is threatening our city. It has to stop! Vote for Joe Batte, Roger Hall, Dr. Andrew Guidry and Butch Neylon to bring fiscal responsibility back to Marco Island before it's too late.

Written on Local hairdressers get on the cutting edge:

I am sure it is a good salon. Unfortunately he carries the Popoff name. I am sure all of the Popoff clan are suffering from the widespread dislike of brother Rob Popoff. Rob's lack of integrity and actions on the council has ruined the lives of many of our islanders. When Naples Pool sold their accounts to Rob's nephew, I immediately cancelled my contract. I, as many others, don't want anything to do with the Popoffs. By the time Rob is through trashing the family name they will either have to change their names or move off the island.

Written on Marco council decides at closed session to appeal anchoring case:

This council has no conscience when it comes to spending our money to serve their agenda and egos. The replacements they offer, another attorney, a guy that hasn't worked in 12 years, and a bartender turned real estate salesman offer nothing more than four more years of the same. This island cannot survive that!

We need a fresh team in January in order to save the island. Vote for Joe Batte, Roger Hall, Andrew Guidry MD and Butch Neylon in January. All proven leaders with succesful careers behind them.

Written on Gibson eighth to announce Marco City Council candidacy:

I am sure that Mr. Gibson is a nice guy. A former bar tender, golfer, turned real estate salesman 3 years ago, that has lived with his significant other out of wedlock for 12 years, really doesn't seem to be the kind of background a candidate needs to run a city with a budget of over $100 million dollars a year. I don't think the fact he has been on Marco for 21 years has any value. Who cares what happened in the past? We are in a major financial crises. We need people with demonstrated managerial skills to step in and solve our problems.

Our council is made up of an attorney and six people that are nice people but never amounted to anything in their lives prior to comming on the council. Unfortunately, they have proven to be very poor choices for Marco Island. Look at the mess we are in. If you want four more years of this and worse, vote for another attorney, a Kights of Columbus Minozzi clone that hasn't worked since 1995, and Mr. Gibson.

If you want to turn things around and save this island before its too late, vote for people with a demonstrated track record of success, Batte, Guidry, Hall and Neylon.

Written on Gibson eighth to announce Marco City Council candidacy:

Mr. Gibson, please demonstrate you integrity by producing the polls that said the residents were overwhelming in favor of going to sewers.

Written on Guest commentary: Marco Island’s steps to hiring new city manager:

I wouldn't want to have anything to do with any candidates proposed by Moss or this council if I were on the new council. Who would? The new council will select their manager using their methods. This is just another waste of money by Moss and the current council. What less would you expect. Vote for Batte, Hall, Guidry and Neylon to bring democracy back to Marco.

Written on Market Update: Is it really time to buy real estate?:

The foreclosures have to go through the cycle before the market recovers. That process hasn't started yet. Give it a year at least, a lot longer if the mess on the island isn't cleaned up. Who would want to move here? Most of us want to leave but can't.

Written on Letter to the Editor: Anti-city?:

Most of the hate speech on this blog comes from Leyroy, Sailingby, Beau, etc., all blog names used by a mentally disturbed person known to us all. He doesn't have anything positive to say. he just rants hate. Read his blogs and you will see one sick looser. He used to be a decent guy until his son won the dumb criminal of the year award by breaking and entering a convience store. He cut a hole in the roof to avoid the cameras. Unfortunately he couldn't climb back out so he had to walk out the door in front of the cameras. He was caught in a matter of hours. No wonder Leroy is so bitter with that as a family legacy.

Written on The Farmer File: New spray park also good for malcontents:

Farmer has a pie shapped lot in the Lamplighter district that he paid 1.4 million for. He tore down the house in anticipation of the STRP. The lot is worth very little if the buyer has to put in a spetic system because the buyer would have to severly limit the size of the house that could be built because of the small street exposure. Farmer is trying to protect his investment with his pro STRP position. He doesn't care about the island or its citizens. He is just a hateful old man.

Written on Moss, councilors look back on his ten-year career on Marco:

Leslie, I hope you follow Mr. Moss to Naples and the NDN. We know you are young and inexperienced but Moss's pixie dust has clearly obscured your objectivity and balanced reporting. The Eagle used to have a city propagandist named Billy Bruce. It would appear you are clearly following his career path. At this point joined you have joined Farmer in your lack of objectivity. When will the Eagle provide us with balanced journalism?

Written on Guidry seventh to announce Marco City Council candidacy:

Dr. Guidry, Thank you for running. The control of this city needs to be restored to the citizens. We need to have people like you and the other 4 procitizen candidates that will restore our trust in our leadership. We are tired of the "establishment" running the city like it was THEIR island and they know more about what is better for us than we do.

I think it is outrageous that our council and the three announced candidates that support them dismiss major health hazzards as stunts by the opposition. They clearly don't care about our fiscal, physical, and mental health. We need you, Batte, Hall, and Neylon to bring back responsive, representative, caring government to Marco Island.

Written on Marco Council votes to buy/lease treatment equipment:

ILOVEMARCO There is absolutly NO evidence the septic tanks are polluting. It has been proven that the sewer lines are leaking 100,000 to 300,000 gallons a day of raw sewerage into the aquifer. That is the danger to our environment. Until we deal with this problem, we run the risk of closed beaches due to leaky sewer lines just like Sanibel has every year. They replaced their septics with central sewer and look what happened. Stop spreading misinformation.

Written on Letter to the Editor: Anti-city?:

I think this commentary hits the nail on the head. Vote for Batte, Guidrey, Hall and Neylon on January 29th.

Written on Marco council to discuss Moss contract at special meeting:

The names, addresses and resumes of the 61 applicants are all public record published in the NDN. I would hope our new council would be smart enough to pick up the phone and start calling the better ones while the newly elected council members are in their 6 week transition period. If Marco Island is going to survive as a city, the next council will have to look for ways to save money, not ways to spend it.

Written on Marco law limiting boat anchoring struck down by Collier judge:

It is interesting that eagleye defines a victory by a group of citizens that successfully challanged the council, Moss and the city's attorneys as a victory for the city over the mal contents. Get the picture! The city LOST!! The citizens won!!! This is typical city spin, probably written by Lisa Douglas.

Written on Island Update: Teen center to open soon in Marco:

I don't think we have the $145,000 per year to spend on anything, be it doggie parks, teen centers, or old folks activities. This council has squandered our $50 million in reserves and burried us in debt. We won't know how badly until we get a new council that will determine and disclose the truth.

The current council has abandoned fiscal responsibility. They don't know where we are financially and they don't care. If you don't believe me, ask any one of the councilors where the reserves went or how much of the $20,000,000 revolving line of credit from the state we just got has been spent or how much of the $25,000,000 loan from the B of A has been spent. You will be shocked to find out they don't have a clue to the answer.

If this council wants it, they can have it. They will just find another way to tax us to pay for it. They are like spoiled kids with a credit cards.

When we were kids, the older kids taught the younger kids how to smoke and have sex. That isn't cool anymore. Today the older kids are introducing the younger kids to drugs and sex. Don't try and tell us that Marco kids don't do sex and are above all that. I suggest that we have sex education classes and free condoms at our new center unless we want a rash of teen pregnancies.

Written on Guest commentary: Dewatering…Hype or Hoax?:

Well spoken! It is time for a fresh set of eyes and minds to sit on the council. The choice is clear. Vote for Batte, Hall, Guidry, Allen or Neylon. They will put a stop to this madness.

Recker and Waldack are 4 more years of the same citizen deaf administration. Recker is already on record that he regards your comments and the hundreds of others that are being impacted by the these gasses as simply a stunt being pulled by a few mal contents. Waldack is also committed to carring the Minozzi banner. They don't care!

Written on Marco Council to receive latest ENVIRON report:

This whole STRP is going to die on 1/29/2008. We don't need to waste any more money on this dumb program. In the very unlikely event three pro STRP candidates get elected, they can buy the equipment then. Stop trying to bankrupt us by spending money we don't have. We already wasted $1,300,000 on lift stations that will never be used. Don't you have any decency or mercy on the citizens you oppress?

Written on Letter: Why do you support anonymous comments:

Walduck you people are all about intimidation. Why would someone sign their name and invite Marco Island code enforcer Tarik Assayn into thier lives? A dictatorship never seems like one to the dictators. You will witness the revolution in January. We will take our island back!

Written on Recker is fifth to announce Marco City Council candidacy:

Mr. Recker displays his intolerance for opposing views in the above link. Rather than accept there may be a problem he procliams a conspiricy by a few mal contents. Another Tucker clone. I wonder if he has photographic evidence to prove it.

Vote for people that care about our citizens, Dr. Guidry, Batte, Hall and Neylon.

Written on Island Update: Teen center to open soon in Marco:

Terri has let a lot of us down. I think she means well but she is in way over her head in trying to deal with our problems. Her flip flopping on the council and her convoluted reasonings when discussing an issue exposes that. I hope she saves herself the embarassment of running. We supported her in the past, we like her but look at the mess she has made. The socialistic teen center is symptomatic of her vision of big government.

We will now be spending $145,000 per year to babby sit a handful of kids whose parents aren't interested in watching over them. That is going to work out to $1,000 per year per teen at if we have 145 teens using the center. I bet we don't see half that number. Would you want to send your 12 year old to a place where they are mixing with 16 and 17 year olds? I think not. Only on Marco.

Written on MICA: MICA membership can save more than it costs:

"Each year the MICA board of directors mails a survey to the members of MICA and asks questions regarding issues that affect the lives of those who live on our beautiful island. The survey results are tabulated and shared with all. MICA members certainly respond to the annual survey. They want their voices heard and the MICA survey is a good mechanism to take care of this."

This year the survey came back anti development and a 60% dissapproval rating for Moss and the council. What use did MICA make of this information other than hide it for three months?

Written on Waldack is fifth to announce Marco City Council candidacy:

I think we have had enough of the Knights. They are not supposed to be a political organization. Poor Wally hasn't had a job in 12 years and is obviously nothing more than a Minozzi clone. Wally, if you haven't been successful for 68 years why should we believe you can change the pattern now? We need winners with proven skills related to our needs to lead us out of the morass. You are a nice guy and we respect that you retired at 56 to take care of your mother. Unfortunately, Marco needs a different skill set.

Written on The Farmer File: Meet Bill Moss, the grown-up:

Don, It is well recognized that the MICA membership and leadership is pro city yet their survey reflected that 2/3 of the 2,600 respondents gave Moss and the council a fair to poor rating. The angst against Moss and the council runs far deeper than you give it credit.

Written on Recker is fifth to announce Marco City Council candidacy:

Mr. Recker has made a living attacking his opponents "another attorney is trying to annihilate me, he's using facts, law and persuasion. He's doing his job," He has been very successful at spinning the facts, the essence of a successful mal practice attorney. He announces his candidacy with scare tactics about septics: "I'm convinced that a government entity in the near future is going to tell us this must be done (central sewers)." When, in fact, there isn't any govenmental agency that is even comtemplating this legislation. Do we want another attorney spinning the facts trying to anihilate the citizens that are opposed to his agenda? Another Tucker! Wasn't one attorney enough?

Written on Island Update: Teen center to open soon in Marco:

When my kids were growing up we wanted to know who their friends were. We certainly wouldn't have wanted to farm them out to a city sponsored teen sitter where we wouldn't have full awareness of who they were associating with and what they were doing. I don't think it is healthy to mix 12 year olds with 16 year olds.

Since Marco Island is awash in money, let's give Terri her prize and see how it works. If it doesn't we can shut it down since no leases are involved.

This is just another extension of big government taking care of its citizens in true socialistic fashion. Now we need an old folks center where we have people arranging for games and activities for our senior citizens.

Written on State Attorney clears two former Marco council members of Sunshine violations:

Soloman, you need to get Ray Beaufort's e-mails. He was one of the major leaders of the dissident group. It is probably save to say that they wouldn't exist if it were not for his computer and research skills. He was a major player in the asbestos contamination exposure, was the involved in POPs and the attempt to get Moss fired, and he did all the recored keeping for the recall. He is a big buddy of Terri, Ted and Chuck. It was only after his son got arrested for breaking and entering that he flipped to the other side in what many believe was an effort to curry favor with Moss et al to get a favorable sentence for his son. You need to get his e-mails to them.

Written on Letter: Déjà vu all over again:

Good article Sayre which puts this council's and city management's attitude towards the citizens in perspective. I, as others, continue to disregard Ed Issler's worthless jibber jabber. He lost all credibility when he stated that various state agencies would mandate a sewer system for Marco Island in the future. He claimed to have spoken to several departments which had assurred him this was the case and provided the names of those departments. We called those people and none of them knew of any impending regulations, now or in the future, that would force us to connect to our leaky central sewer system. We all knew he is a fool, now we know he is a lying fool.

Written on Another candidate throws hat into ring for Marco City Council:

sunshine2, We are all waiting for his web site to find out what the man is all about. So far, all we have heard is that he is another Minozzi with Tucker's background and brains. That is a dangerous combintation if true.

Written on Letter: Clear thinking:

Would Mr. Recker and Ed Issler, and all the other lying rascals that claim that central sewers will be mandated for Marco Island in the future either put up or shut up. We are tired of our lying city govenment and its lying supporters.

Written on Another candidate throws hat into ring for Marco City Council:

The four announced candidates have well developed positions which are expressed on their web sites. We all look forward to learning more about Mr. Recker. So far all we know is that he is malpractice dental attorney and that some time in the past he was a vice mayor in a small Ohio town. He has never appeared at any council meetings, never written any LTE or guest editorials. If he has such a passion for Marco Island, where has he been? His only position advanced so far is that he is pro STRP and is justifiying it with the Ed Issler lie that sewer systems will be mandated in the future. This is a very poor beginning. We are tired of being lied to by the city an its supporters. We want honesty and integrity in our next council. We don't need people that make a living twisting the facts bringing those skill to our next council. You can go to www.votekennethallen.com, www.votejoebatte.com, www.voterogerhall.com or www.voteforbutch.com and find extensive position papers by those candidates. We look forward to reading Mr. Recker's web site.

Written on Another candidate throws hat into ring for Marco City Council:

I think that you all should check on the $60 million dollar sewer system on Sanebel which has now closed Sanebel's beaches for the second year in a row. Then take a look at the Marco Island Beach cam and see the red tint to our beaches and ask yourselves if our very leaky 30 year old collection system isn't about to do the same for Marco. It is the 100,000+ galons a day of exfiltration that is leaking into our acquifer from our sewer system that is the threat, not the septic systems.

Written on Guest commentary: What are fire assessments?:

Typical Moss spin. Let the chief come out an claim it will be revenue neutral then let the council suggest that that will not be the case as they did last night.

Once again there isn't any provision for the voters to vote on this major change in our assessments.

Moss and the 7 blind mice have to make this decision for us because they think we are too stupid to make the decisions that impact THEIR island.

Written on Injection well, traffic lights approved:

Leslie you need to check your math. It is a $6.5 million dollar hole in the ground when you add the design and pipes into the cost. We can't trust the city to give us the right figures, we would like to trust you.

Written on Did Marco Island council members' violate sunshine laws?:

The council has patton1 (Tarick), lauralbi1 (Ed Issler), Leroy (Ray Beaufort), and Wayne Waldack as their dream team of supporters. Are these the people we want to control the destiny of Marco Island?

Written on Letter to the Editor: When will you listen?:

Well said LInda and heebeed. The only thing that will stop this madness is a new council. Vote Allen, Batte, Hall and Neylon in January. Otherwise this will go on for years.

Written on Did Marco Island council members' violate sunshine laws?:

Show me his friends and I will show you the man.
Tarick and Popoff are best buds. What else needs to be said.

Written on Did Marco Island council members' violate sunshine laws?:

Leroy, It's common knowledge that up until April 2007 Ray Beaufort was one of the leaders, the major computer guy and very active in the group that you want investigated. I understand Beaufort is tight with Forcht, Popoff and Kiester and had a lot of communications with the councilmen. He is the strongest suspect out there that could be a conduit. Shouldn't we get his e-mails too?

Written on Did Marco Island council members' violate sunshine laws?:

The answer lies in the article:

Asked by the Daily News to offer an opinion, a media-funded Sunshine Law watchdog organization said the communication between DiSciullo and Kiester “was pretty safe within the bounds of the Sunshine Law.”

Why all the discussion?

Written on Did Marco Island council members' violate sunshine laws?:

I think Trotter's actions reflect his priorities and total lack of regard for the health and well being of the citizens of Marco Island. He clearly places cheap shots at his fellow councilmen over the need to comply with the council's direction regarding further contamination of the citizens. Too bad he isn't as concerned about the problem as he is in trying to intimidate those two councilmen that are trying to protect us. Kiddos to Terri and Chuck! Too bad we don't have more like you.

Written on Letter: STRP is a boondoggle:

themessiah joined up on 8/23. A review of his postings reflect that he is another psydonynm for one of the handfull of city supporters. No facts, just hate and insults. His posting reveal another miserable loser.

Written on Market Update: Are the tides turning in Marco Island Real Estate?:

If you call Mrs. Webb, the leading broker for English and German buyers over the past 20 years, she will tell you those buyers are flocking AWAY from Marco and putting their properties on the market. As they tell her and their friends, who would want to come here to this mess with the Mediterranean is so much prettier, nicer and closer. Buyers are not going to come back until we clean up the island, stop kidding yourselves.

My snowbird neighbors don't even want to come back, why would someone new want to be here?

Written on Guest commentary: Open letter to Rony Joel:

Good point captnjimbo. The contractor is liable and the only way he can shift responsibility is to prove this was a problem that he reasonably couldn't have anticipated. That is a far stretch given that he was involved in the construction of Tigertail which had the same issues and he is dewatering on an island that was created by burying thousands of yards of organic materials.

It is like saying that you have a contract to dewater an old landfill (dump) and you reasonably couldn't have expected to bring up toxic water so therefore you are not liable. Nobody would buy that either.

For some unknown reason, Moss is underwritting the contractor's responsibilities.

Written on None:

Patton1, I looked at Mr. Waldack's blogs. He hasn't had a job in 12 years by his own admission. What part of optomist's comments weren't true? I also don't see where optomist said anything about Mr. Waldack's integrity, he just questioned his qualifications. Try and substitute facts, if you have any, for hate speech, you would be much more persuasive.

Written on Letter: STRP is a boondoggle:

Ed Issler, We are still waiting for the telephone numbers of the government regulators that you claim will force us to impliment the STRP. Despite repeated requests you have refused to or have been unable to provide same. Until you do so, you don't have any credibility and we don't have any interest in pursuing your claims. You, sir, are not an honorable man. You spread misinformation and outright lies. You should be ashamed of yourself and see yourself for the fool you have become in the eys of the citizens of Marco Island.

Written on Marco City Council meets in emergency session Friday:

There isn't any septic seepage as proven by the dewatering.
