Written on Former City Councilmen: Marco’s greatest trials became its greatest triumphs:

Ted Forcth lost the election because of the following statement:

“I still to this day don’t believe the sanitary sewer system was the best thing for Marco Island,” said Forcht.

This has to be the single most closed-minded ignorant statement ever made in Marco politics and it cost Ted the election! The overwhelming proof that the MAJORITY wanted sewers combined with the support from every major environmental organization in the state wasn’t enough to convince Ted that we needed the STRP. Ted is a nice enough guy but he is dense. He represented the vocal minority, guys like Fossil, he did not represent the majority and that’s why he’s out of a job!

Written on Letter to the Editor: It’s our money, treat it that way:

sailingalong, in case you didn't know it, just about everyone is in foreclosure or affected by this economy. Even if your information is true, in this economy I say so what!

Written on Letter to the Editor: Open letter to Councilor-elect Larry Magel:

At least you admit you're in the minority dc5799.

Written on UPDATE: Marco man pinned between vehicles, airlifted to hospital:

The driver was driving way too fast and when asked to slow down she hit the gas instead of the brakes. Drivers over 70 years old should be tested periodically to make sure they are still able to drive safetly.

Written on Marco City Manager review may segue to review of city charter :

Frank is a friend of mine and he is a huge disappointment.

Written on Bryan Milk named City of Marco Island Parks and Recreation Director:

Brian was the best choice. Brian will bring the YMCA, the Optimist club and the city together. Great choice by Thompson.

Written on Guest Commentary: Just when you thought it was safe:

Mr. Popoff, sometimes I feel as though you are the only logical voice of reason on council. Very well thoughtout commentary.

Written on Letter To The Editor: What iguanas?:

Just because you haven't seen any iguanas doesn't mean they don't exist. There are thousands of these pests that defecate on everything and eat everything in sight; some are as long as 6-7 feet. These iguanas are a very real problem that must be addressed.

Written on Letter To The Editor: Never accept nastiness:

As usual, great words Terri but there are a few that will not let go of the past. They will do whatever they can to disrupt our city and harm our good citizens. For all of our benefit I post the following:

It is the act of forgiveness that opens up the only possible way to think creatively about the future at all.
-- Father Desmond Wilson

Today is full of endless possibilities and dreams. In many cases, we are limited only by our fear and lack of hope, in others and ourselves. Each new day we are given a clean page to live in our book of life.

What freedom we find when we choose to practice the art of forgiveness. Forgiving others and ourselves will allow us to step into this new day as free human beings. What can really hurt us in the present if we have the key to daily forgiveness? What could our friend, boss, or enemy possibly say that would be worth the emotional price of on-going resentment?

Freedom is a gift we give ourselves every time we choose not to react to a hurtful comment. Holding on to old resentments keeps our creative energy trapped and stifled. Our choices are these: new freedom or old resentment. We choose new freedom. It is the gift we give ourselves when we choose not to let the sun rise on yesterday's script.

Today let me forgive everyone and anything - past and present - that might distract me from my spiritual growth.

Written on Politics get personal at Marco City Council meeting :

Kiester talks about possible Sunshine violations?? That's a topic he should be an expert on since the courts found him guilty of same. I watch Monday night at the fights (council meetings)on cable and can't believe that people are complaining about our city council being unprofessional. Every letter to the editor is written by the same handful of people complaining and name calling. Just about everyone that speaks at the podium is complaining and name calling. When council defends themselves all the naysayers claim they are mistreated. Oh my Lord!!!! If you can dish it out you better be able to take it; I think our council has had it with the double standard!

Written on Letter to the Editor: Resignation from Electric Municipalization Committee:

I thought Roger was going to stay out of politics after he lost (got slaughtered) in the last election.

Written on Marco cop recovering after crashing watercraft into mangroves:

It is out of just plain courtesy and respect for a dedicated Marco Police officer that the post should have been removed. Thank you Marco Eagle for doing the right thing.

Written on Marco cop recovering after crashing watercraft into mangroves:

I too requested that the MARCOEYE comment be removed. I am certain the comment has caused the family some unnecessary distress. How unprofessional and disrepectful of the Eagle to allow such a comment considering the circumstances! MARCOEYES's comment is not free speech; it is just plain bad taste and the Eagle should know the difference.

I am partially disabled and Kevin checks on me regularly, even when he is off duty. He is a great police officer and was treated unfairly in his recent bid for a promotion. He has remained loyal to his chief, the community and his fellow officers. He is a class act!!

To Kevin and his family, you have a lot of people praying for you. Get well soon.

Written on Marco officials, past and present, respond to allegations of fraud:

With regard to the LCEC municipalization commiee one must question what is so bad about looking into ways to save the city money. Moreover, why do some individuals oppose this so much?

Written on Marco officials, past and present, respond to allegations of fraud:

I keep wondering why Bill McMullan keeps putting himself out there. He said he had a medical emergency, I hope he is healthy but why does a man with such a questionable history keep putting his already feeble reputation in the public eye so much?

Written on Letter to the Editor: From roses to rabbits:

Bill McMullan continues to put himself in the public eye, he is shameless. Why embarrass himself and his family any further?

Written on Letter to the Editor: Mislead by misinformation:

It is disappointing that the Marco Eagle would print such a negative and nasty personal attack on one of our city councilors. When does the Eagle look at something so ugly and vile and decide not to print it? Ray Parets most recent attack should have been that time. Here is a guy who makes a sport out of bringing shame on our community and being disrespectful to all those he disagrees with. At some point, the Eagle should look at the chronic letter writers and complianers and question whether what they have to say is worth the ink!!

Written on Letter to the editor: Another outrage:

Roger Hall is:

A.) an Imbecile
B.) self-important
C.) high and mighty
D.) ALL OF THE ABOVE

He is a genious (in his own mind) and we should all bow down to him when he speaks. I have never seen such a pompous self-absorbed individual in all my life and I have been around for a long time.

Written on Marco purchases $900,000 East Elkcam Circle property:

Does Joel really need this piece of land? Thanks to councilor Popoff for his commonsense statements. In this market using an appraisal from December of 2007 is crazy!

Written on Letter to the editor: Building bridges?:

Van, last night after reading this blog I read through 10 of the 30 pages of all of your blogs and virtually everyone of them was a complaint of one sort or another. On a few occasions you did blog on principle which was refreshing but your complaining is incessant. Not to defend or condone the insults thrown on you but I suggest you read through some of your posts; you sound like a very unhappy person.

Written on Sewer construction begins in Sheffield and Lamplighter districts on Marco:

All I can say is "Thank God" the anti-city candidates didn't get into office! Guidry is an obnoxious, immature sore loser. Hall is just a self-righteous, self-centered, pompous egomaniac and Neylon is just a plain liar. With Godfrey Davies as city manager and Ed Foster leading up a utility board they would have ruined our city and bankrupted Marco Island by stopping the STRP.

In the end, sanity took over!

Written on South plant, property acquisition on Marco council agenda:

After watching the meeting "live" last night what do you expect council to do? They have tried to accomidate the residents, in fact, I think Popoff, (who I like a lot) was trying too hard to please the residents. There is no where left on the island for staging. Why waste anymore time loking for alternatives that aren't there?

Written on Souza named Marco interim manager:

Halt the city manager search, what planet does Kiester live on? His sole goal it seems is to be an obstructionist on council. He should resign!

Written on MICMS’s Battle of the Bands a rousing success:

Can't wait until next year; there was a lot of young talent there...I was amazed. Alittle loud but a really nice event.

Written on Letter to the editor: Nothing to fear but fear itself?:

Mr. Uhler, why are you warming up to the new council?

Aren't they the very council you vocally opposed during the election?

Uhler, like your name, you make no sense and are as transparent as cellophane.

I would call you an idiot but that moniker is far to civil for you!

Written on Prayer breakfast includes inspirational speeches:

It was a wonderful event filled with positive community leaders. God Bless our lovely Island.

Written on Collier judge finds Marco council member guilty of records violation:

Mr. Kiester, you owe us all an apology. The best thing to do is offer your resignation the the current city council. You have been convicted of a crime.

For shame on you Mr. Kiester!

Written on Satisfaction, disappointment — and ultimately — hope abound in days after Marco election:

I am disabled and not on sewer and have watched the council meetings on television for the last several years. I have remained silent but have been shocked and disappointed at the behavior of some of the citizens on this island. Grown adults acting like spoiled children over sewage.

It amazes me how much evidence is available about the need for sewers on Marco Island and certain individuals, a few in my nieghborhood, refuse to accept the facts. I am not happy about the money to connect, I am on a fixed income but I would rather complete this project now then have to pay more later.

As I read the article above I sadly realized that this turmoil is probably not over. There are still people that will not accept reality. We, the voters are not stupid, we are fed up. We are fed up with negative, know it all attitudes. We are fed up with big yellow signs and obnoxious trucks litering our beautiful island. We are fed up with the childish behavior.

To insult the voters by saying they are misinformed is pure rubbish. I knew who and what I voted for. Lets put this behind us, please.
