I'm tired of the race card being played here its just a cop out for the lely lovers anyone who has ever lived any where but here would understand this no matter where you live there is multiple ethnic backgrounds that make up what is known as the student body as I have mentioned before my child's school that she previously attended before lely was just as such,I will break it down 50% black/ 20% Hispanic/30% Caucasian and all the blacks bussed in where from gang and drug laden neighborhoods,the Hispanics parents where mostly farm hands,The white children where from the small suburban town into which this school is located but due to a committed teachers staff this was also a B School so to say race has a factor in the fcat result is a joke its teachers not performing there duty that is the problem so lets get off the everyone's racist B.S. and have these teachers be accountable for there short comings and failing the most important asset to there career there students! If anyone is to blame for those empty seats at lely its them no one wants there child to have a unsatisfactory education that folks is the real world, I'm glad that at some point lely provided a proper education as we hear results of past and ready to graduate students reveal but this problem is recent and it basically applies to freshman thru sophomore and soon to be high school aged children these are the effected ones...On a separate note its mentioned how much money is put into lely buy collier county school board my question is how much money does Marco Island pour into collier county think about it!!!
Yes,very well stated its unfortunate that some are trying to turn this into a race issue when that is the furthest thing from the truth.we here on Marco only want the best education possible for our children and to have our very own high school to be proud of. Its great that some have warm fuzzy feelings about lely most respondents I've seen though seem to also get a pay check from said school but good for them.Its only right in a world of school of choice for every city to have a high school to go to, wheres the choice for marco, the closest school is lely and the majority of this community is at odds with there methods and curriculum using the brightest kids as examples as some do is unacceptable every child should have the opportunity to be able to attend a grade (A) college and that my friends is accomplished by attending a grade (A) High School For every one person that says lely is the best I could point you to Ten that say it is not and with colleges wanting to be involved with the possibility of a marco high what else needs to be said I agree we need that high school!

Wake up Mr.Black I'm not saying a few Marco teens are not experimenting with drugs or alcohol, but it would seem due to your loyalty to your job and school you would prefer to ignore the facts about lely this isn't some movie where a strong willed parent or teacher will change the way this school operates or lack there of over night , does it need to change yes for the future of its future students, It could be years before the school sees its lost greatness return we need change now for the sake of its present students or the only alternative is to remove our children from it and put them somewhere more capable and it only seems logical for that to be in the city that they live with a High School right here on the island this would help establish ownership to the parents and students that attend its halls create more involvement of the educational process to which our kids receive and ultimately would be a better school.

well according to my daughter and trust me nothing she does is hidden from me,we taught her moral values,anyhow she states your marco kids being the so called drug users as false, most of the drug using kids attending lely are from golden gate and the manner just another reason for Mr.Thompson to actually look at the reason why we need our own High school these children are Brain washed into believing that a second rate education is fine,secondly since were on the topic of exposure to lifestyles, if some marco children are using drugs would it not be due to the exposure to drugs and if you need to know if your child is using just go to the local drug store and purchase a test.And isnt it obvious that one of our fellow bloggers lets say maybe themessieh put these youths up to the task of making there comments im just saying...But good for them to speak there opinion...

We need a High School for our Island children, to say Lely High is an acceptable school is crap lets talk about how children of illegals are allowed to attend Lely, cant even speak english are allowed to take classes such as spanish for an easy grade,cant read the english text put in front of them but somehow still pass from grade to grade, disapear for 2/3 weeks and pop up back at school with the ones that can speak some english, laughing about how they along with there moms and dads where caught sent back to mexico and made their return,(RUMOR) maybe but think its investagatable,On a side note School of choice does not cause poor fcat scores thats ridiculous,but kids allowed by parents/teachers to be slakers do, lets talk about how the grade curve effects a student that does his/her expected work load with passing grades in return for a lower g.p.a than they deserve because of students allowed to slack being slipped into the next grade so the teachers dont have to deal with them the list can go on and on why lely isnt any better than most inner city schools around america do the research for yourself all I know is we have an opportunity to create a better educational future for our kids and to not do it is just plain stupid!!!
OMG!!! Can you believe the dribble I just read, I could point out all the false facts in your letter Ed but what good would it do,some points need correction,Number one if you have a septic tank when you have it pumped to prevent problems is not every few years its a little more technical than that it depends on square footage of a home how many occupants how many bath rooms how many men/women are in the home yes gender applies the ladies flush solids every time they use the rest room Ed in a average single family household with 3 to 5 occupants it is recommended to pump it out roughly every 18 months and thats not opinion that is fact,Number two fat oil and grease should never be flushed into a septic it will float on top but in a collected solid mass 6 to 12 inches thick that eventually will force/break the baffle off the back of your septic tank thus allowing solids to then travel into your carrier pipe only intended for liquids to your drain field/leech field causing what is called tainting then you have just destroyed your drain field once the drain field is tainted the solids then back up in to the carrier pipe thus not allowing the liquids to travel through and then you can probably guess what happens next slow drains/back ups major problems so please Ed unless you know what your talking about dont give people info that could harm them or lead them down the wrong path but I guess thats to late you did found cares...As far as calling the majority of the island ignorant I think you just lost all standing with your views,and before you tell me I dont know what Im talking about the septic and drainfield service and installation company I was a working partner in heard this every time we responded to a service issue (we dont know whats wrong we had it pumped 3 yrs ago!)...
I also agree that we need a high school for our island kids to attend it wouldnt need to be a huge school, as one person in a past comment said they did`nt think there was enough land located at track k for a high school its not like we are going to dredge up more of the gulf to add more residency to the island, so why not use the land for its original purpose,anyone with high school age kids should push this issue,or kids soon to be in high school,lely is a school with to many distractions for our children to recieve a proper education ,face it lely was once great but now it isnt any better than a inner city school, when you have to have police on campus 24/7 thats a problem, why make our kids go through that,and why continue the long commutes for island residents,A proper city would provide a proper school for its kids SO BUILD THAT SCHOOL!!!
I like how the amount of spill continues to grow every time the story is told when in fact the est. amount was 8-10 thousand gallons which was unfortunatly contained for the most part in 2 citizens front lawns along san marco.oh and by the way the spills your refering to in reading pa.which was`nt really spills but where astronimical amounts released over periods of years due to illegal dumping a practice many cities in many states used for years until recently as enviromental concern has increased.The situation in LA is harsh due to the amounts and long term practice of non clean-up after instances take place (with ther citizens left to live with it).Fossil I respect your comment I admit it was educational,but VAN your comment only shows you have the intelectual thought process of a rock... Small town usa has a larger percentage of allowable funds than marco so the smart thing would be to loosen the purse strings a little simple economics allow more money to be relieved from the accumalative bulk equals less burden to the tax payer,lower cost on strp fees etc.etc.etc. not to hard to grasp unless you just dont want to...

Yes, M&S construction is truly the (in my opinion) best contractor involved in any of the sewering projects thus far there attention to detail and consideration of us the residents, to inconvenience us as little as possible is very appreciated. And yes van they should be very proud,I agree, if only the other contractors would practice the standards of M&S from start to finish great job guys!!!

I do agree these 3 individuals deserve to be prosecuted which obviously was what happened to 2 of the three but the conviction was light do to the officers actions...Being from (Chicago) and living many years in (Detroit) I would like to say what I call a hood makes east naples and ft.myers look like camp cupcake...these young boys were (OBVIOUSLY INTOXICATED) and it is the officers duty to show restraint and just because your not white does this make you a (BANGER)THAT IS JUST RACIST TO STATE...we have holding cells in our new police station why dont we use them they cost enough to build then the drunken boys could have been transported in the mourning after cooler heads prevailed...but my concern lies with councilman Reckers comments of they deserved more and there lucky there breathing maybe Mr.Recker needs to be evaluated as to if he is fit to hold his chair he seems to have a knack for making questionable remarks and it seems as if he needs a lesson in diversity...Im ashamed I voted for him.........
