Written on Collier MPO keeps Jolley Bridge at top of its list for stimulus money:

My goodness, isn't that a rude and likely uninformed comment by ElkcamEye

Sailing indicated he had been working consistantly for 35 years. He did not say he had not saved money, nor did he say he (or she) was looking for assistance, only for a job, not an unreasonable request.

Someone with that work ethic should be commended, not derided. For someone like Sailing it IS the economy now that is the problem.

The "loser" in this exchange is ElkcamEye

You may not have seen a Realtor name yet but you will. When a house is listed for sale at $475,000.00, and it closes at $740,000.00 no one involved can claim ignorance. Beyond the law (and there is very likely a criminal case to be made)Realtors are subject to a code of ethics and I can't imagine that there will not be a professional misconduct case in near future. Stay tuned.

Written on Wide sweeping fraud sting reaches Marco:

There is a house across the street from us which we considered purchasing.

The asking price was $475,000.00 or near that.

It did sell and the purchase price was listed at $775,000.00 or close to that.

Obviously, something was going on and I asked around a bit but there was never a good answer.

Now there is.

Some mortgage lender is holding a large, half empty bag and the collateral damage with appraisers, "buyers" loan officers, will not be pretty.

Public beach access................Yes!

This is old and likely hard to find so I'm not sure you'll see it.

I think I know the path you describe. It is right adjacent to the Spa and runs to the beach at the north end of the Marriott where the weddings are staged.

Very nice access but I don't think public. We thought it was for a long time but then discovered that the new public access (the one in the story and the one with the comments above) is down about a block between the Maderia and the next condo complex.

We have been using the one you describe for some time. Generally, they don't object but ocasionally that green swinging gate is closed with a sign that says no beach access.

Since Marriott uses the path all the time for service and the like (they use it now to service the trucks and stuff for the workers that are completing the tile roof on the Madiera) it is most often open.

I'll be more comfortable however when the real public access is constructed.

Written on Council increases reuse water rates, tables beach access:

Glad to see the support here for the Madeira public beach access.

Yesterday, after reading that the motion to fund the project had been tabled, I emailed Lisa Douglass, Public Information Coordinator for the City of Marco and she responded immediately (good for her) that the matter will be taken up at the May 21 Capital Improvement Workshop and that she believed that it can be re-worked and brought in under budget.

Others in support should email Lisa (see below) as the comments are passed along to the Council and City Manager (except for the true cynics among us)

For the really obsessed, you can view the competing bids the design for the project, and other stuff on the City web site.

This thing will get built, the deeded easement is in place as are the funds.

Written on Island update: What’s new with the Madeira beach access point?:

Thanks to marconews for responding to our (and possibly other) requests for an update to the status of this project.

As with most things these days, I'm amazed at the costs involved for a seemingly small project.

We are local to the access point and purchased property last October in large part in reliance on this proposed access. Based upon the update, we are confident it will be constructed either based upon the Norstar bid or upon a scaled down version of the plan. That it is on course is good news, we look forward to seeing construction activity.

From our reading, it appears there is much support for additional public beach access on Marco, and little objection.

The story mentions that the access was "...available for a 10-year period following the establishment of the Marco Beach Resort Planned Unit Development created in 2001." Since, from a recent Eagel story it appears the City has accepted a deed to the easement, we take it that the 10-year time frame was a limit within which the City had a right to exercise an option and take title to the easement, rather than a limitation of the time that the access would remain open.

We'll watch with interest to see what action the council takes at the Monday meeting.

By the way, what a great place Marco is, we have made 7 trips down in the last 6 months and each time we leave, can't wait to get back again.
