This is Spain Tonight. http://www.businessinsider.com/spanis... Spain is broke. The people don't like austerity. But they allowed it to happen with their voting choices and nonchalance. Austerity hasn't even happened yet. Spain must beg the ECB, IMF for money. That will bring in the Troika. The Troika will enforce some real austerity. The people will really NOT like the Troika. When this happens in Italy it will be even more fascinating. Next up France. Japan somewhere in between. Kicking the can, extending and pretending, can only last so long. We are witnessing a global shift in the balance of economic power around the globe.

It will happen here too. Americans will show the rest of the world how to protest. If I was an inner city cop in the US, I would seriously be looking at a career change or transfer. 50 million Americans losing their SNAP cards, unemployment, and SS benefits won't be conducting a "sit in". There are millions of guns in America and these people already aren't fond of law enforcement. I suspect there will be a few million seniors protesting as well. SS & Medicare are unsustainable in their current form.

WTF,

Your statements are correct:

This has been and will still be a dirty campaign against a president who can not stand on his accomplishments.

I was simply trying to explain to those uniformed that they are barking up the wrong tree when it comes to Romney's taxes.

I think the Democrats are trying to bring in the uneducated voter when they are lying about tax rates when few understand it and few in the lower income brackets know nor care about investment income tax brackets.

It is a ploy to make those people think there are getting the truth and should vote for their party.

This only shows that the Democrats will do anything to get votes. I would be insulted if I was a Democrat and knew the down-talking their party is doing to me in order to get my vote.

Zoo,
I don't mean to sound like I'm attacking or anything. It's just frustrating to see both parties destroying the country by ignoring math, common sense, and free market principals. I understand that the left vs right has been deeply embedded in the brains of Americans for the last 75 years and critical thinking beyond that is nearly impossible. It will take a massive shock to people to get them to think outside the box. I believe the shock is coming.

Protests are turning violent and Spain hasn't even asked the ECB "formally" for bail out money yet. When they do ask, I meant beg, for money the Troika will come to Spain. This little protest will look like a day at the park once the Troika takes over the country. Us Americans will be far better at this protest stuff than the Spaniards.

Carry on discussing the tax code. It matters to someone? Somewhere? One would think that it would only matter to Romney? It's his money? Maybe we should be concerned with what DC will do with our money?

"They are calling for fresh elections, claiming the government’s austerity measures show the ruling Popular Party misled voters to get elected last November". Say it ain't so! The popular party mislead voters? In regards to austerity measures? Austerity is coming here people. As soon as we get these elections over. No matter who wins.

Entitlements are going to shrink. Yes, that includes Social Security and medicare. All you old folks will scream that's not fair! I paid in! Guess what? So did I! You morons voted for people that stole from it. I have a long ways to go before I am age eligible. I've paid in a lot of money. Why should you take my money and I and my kids will be left with nothing but $60+ Trillion in unfunded liabilities? The game is almost up. Markets and mathematics are going to put an end to extend and pretend lies from Dems and Repubs.

So continue on arguing about Romneys taxes or Obamas citizenship. It's all just a distraction. s----- is as s----- does!

Written on Letter to the Editor: I refuse to believe that we are beyond hope:

I don't believe America will cease to exist. It will go on. It will be far different than it is today. We may start over with a new monetary system and form of government. History says that is usually what happens. $60 trillion in unfunded liabilities will eventually lead to promises we can't keep. Who gets the shaft and who doesn't will in part shape the future of the country.

Below is a quote from FOMC member Dick Fisher. The whole speech is well worth the read here. http://www.dallasfed.org/news/speeche...

Fisher: Just recently, in a hearing before the Senate, your senator and my Harvard classmate, Chuck Schumer, told Chairman Bernanke, “You are the only game in town.” I thought the chairman showed admirable restraint in his response. I would have immediately answered, “No, senator, you and your colleagues are the only game in town. For you and your colleagues, Democrat and Republican alike, have encumbered our nation with debt, sold our children down the river and sorely failed our nation. Sober up. Get your act together. Illegitimum non carborundum; get on with it. Sacrifice your political ambition for the good of our country—for the good of our children and grandchildren. For unless you do so, all the monetary policy accommodation the Federal Reserve can muster will be for naught.”

Written on Letter to the Editor: I refuse to believe that we are beyond hope:

Your missing Einsteins point! Voting for Romney or Obama is doing the same thing Americans have done for the last 100 years. It's led us to where we are today.

Romney may be willing to change coarse (he won't) but no one in the house or the senate will join him. We have passed the point of no return now. There is no way to cut the spending with out one party or the other losing elections. That is not acceptable to either party. The spending will be cut. Not by a any sane voices from DC. It will be cut by market forces. Math is not a political debate, or an ideology. It just is.

The sad thing is. We were warned repeatedly by the founding fathers about out of control governments. We all think "it's different now" or we are smarter now so that can't happen here. I also have some unicorns to sell. They even crap skittles!

He cannot even form a budget. Bowls Simpson was a start. Obama ignored it completely. Name one thing this guy has done besides spend $5trillion we don't have. Invent a health care system that we can never pay for. Just adding more to the $60trillion in unfunded liabilities. Hope and promises are not sound policy. Romney is an empty suit who believes in NOTHING. He will do or say whatever he thinks is necessary to win. He wants to be president just so that he can say that he did that too (Well, I was governor of Mass, ran the Olympics and a PE firm, I guess I will try to be president now. . .).

That is why he changes his opinions depending on whose support he believes he needs. When he needed liberal Massachusetts voters, he was pro choice, pro RomneyCare and pro gay rights. When he needed the conservatives to get him nominated, he completely disavowed everything he used to say he believed in. When he needed to raise money, he told the uber-wealthy contributors what he thought they wanted to hear. Just shake the Etch-a-sketch again.

Now ironically, he would do best in this election if he reverted once again to his former opinions from when he was Massachusetts governor - but unfortunately for Romney, he is too afraid of his big money donors to do that.

He believes in nothing.
He stands for nothing.
He will do nothing.

Please explain how Obama fills his suit? Looks pretty empty to me. As do all the suits in DC.

How many people are being killed in Syria today? That's not my problem. In the past 12 years what president has presided over the most American combat deaths? Who has started the most wars? Who is the war monger?

Romneys not my guy. Nor is Obama. I do not support the war in Afghanistan. I do not believe towel wearing camel riders are coming to America. I just wonder when people like you will wake up and realize there isn't much difference between Bush & Obama, Romney and Obama, who ever. The Greeks had those same arguments for years. Now they are here. http://turkeymacedonia.wordpress.com/... The various ideological parties of Greece have all had one consistent theme. Stay in power and give the people what they want so politicians can be re-elected by spending money and growing government. Today the Golden Dawn (Neo-nazis) party has grown in popularity in Greece by 10% in 4 months. The people have lost faith in the government. This always leads to the end of a nation. People say Greece doesn't matter. I think they are wrong. Greece on it's current path is a huge problem for Europe and model for what big government and big debts lead to. This will be awesome to watch unfold. I will support a party that stops us from traveling that same road.

While I do support life in the womb, I don't believe it should be political. It's wrong for me but what someone else does as long as it does not effect me isn't my problem. People die around the world every day from war, starvation, disease, etc. Always have, always will.

Once a population realizes they can vote themselves favors from the government it's over. The politicians only care about re-election. Social security, foodstamps, whats the difference? They are both meant to help fill a short fall. Throw Grandma into the street or let her work at walmart. Same with the single mom with 5 kids. Lets take it all away and leave the government to do the things they should. Defend our nation from incursion by other nations. Keep law and order within our nation. 2. Attacks on embassies around the globe.

3. Netanyahu telling us Iran only months from a nuke.

4. Bernanke announcing QE3 during a non crisis time (recession ended in 2009) to keep interest rates low until 2015. That means the GOV can borrow at 0%. They will need to borrow A LOT if we're going to war. (this is a big red flag IMO)

Where is this great Obama you speak of!!!

The US Consulate is being attacked this morning in Pakistan. Four US troops were killed over the weekend. One or more of the people attacked at the embassy in Libya were sodomized and dragged through the street. Where is Obama?

A bigger question? Why does it appear that even the majority of people in this country don't seem to care much? Why aren't there people demanding a response from the streets? I guess it's more important to camp outside the i-junk store waiting for a new cell phone? Another question? Where is there any leadership at all coming from either party in DC? There is none. I guess they are using more "HOPE" policy? They are hoping that this will go away and everyone here will forget when they get their new i-junk?

Bottom line. Obama is the "leader" of America. He is the commander and chief. Where is he?

Written on Protesters storm U.S. Embassy in Yemen, burn American flag:

It's a comment page people. Everyone here has a constitutionally (given by their creator, not government) protected right to speak their mind.

Timing of these protests is suspect. America is normally not in the habit of electing a new president during times of conflict.

Bernanke setting an open ended QE3 yesterday is also disturbing. While it will drive equities higher for a short period of time. It will not reduce unemployment. QE drives food, energy, and raw materials higher. The cost creating and providing goods and services is going to go higher. That means less hiring and probably more firing! On top of that $5 gasoline and higher prices of things people need to buy. That means less spending by the average consumer. This is terrible policy. It will end in tears.

Where's Obama? Is he waiting for the protests to escalate? We give all of these nations a few billion dollars each in aid every year. Where are the Democrats or the Republicans that have at least one testicle left to tell these people that just came to an end? There aren't any.

And this is policy coming from the guy that said...Housing won't be a problem right before housing blew up! We're done! This has to be the biggest hail mary ever thrown in the history of a central bank?

Obama is toast too. $5 gasoline will not get him elected.

Written on Fed to spend $40 billion a month on bond purchases:

We now have confirmation that the economy is deteriorating and so are bank balance sheets! The Fed is now the only thing driving growth in GDP. It is not organic growth either. It kills the real economy. The Fed is about to make both even worse. Zero interest rates pushed out to 2015. MBS purchases of $40 billion a month and a continuation of "twist". All open ended with no end unless the employment picture improves? That will never happen now. All of this for what? Maybe so corporations and the country can continue to roll debt into lower interest rates with a longer duration? If they think that will stimulate jobs they are wrong. They must know that? We've been doing this since 2008 and nothing but stock prices have improved.

QE stokes inflation, especially in energy and commodities. That equals higher costs to corporations in raw materials and fuel. That means less hiring and lower profits. Eventually it shows up in the stock price. Unemployment will begin to rise rapidly. $4 gas today, $5 dollar gas just down the road.

This is terrible policy. We supposedly are no longer in recession? Why would the Fed need to take such drastic actions at this time? It would appear that they are desperately trying to hold up the house of cards. They fired their last bullet with this. When this fails (it will) there is nothing left. Three years or less and there will be a full blown crisis making 2008 look like nothing happened.

Record high premiums and lower cost procedures and Rx there than here in the US. Why would anyone in Europe even buy health insurance? Isn't is all free there?

Health insurance companies here in America are doing pretty well too. Why? Because there is no competition. They lobby DC. DC does what makes the Health insurers and DC more money.

What I wrote regarding rising taxes or austerity was in regards to governments. Ask the Irish, Greeks, or Portuguese how they like austerity measures being forced on them. Spain and Italy will be where the real fun begins.

It is interesting that Rush is now saying economic collapse is coming. In keeping with his theme he says it will only happen if Obama has 4 more years. I wish he would explain to his audience how the R&R ticket is going to reverse 30 years rapid credit expansion, huge entitlement expansion, 20+ years of middle class jobs being off shored, a health care system with costs rising 9%+ every year, and $60 trillion in unfunded liabilities. It is encouraging though that people like him are starting to see the light.

Written on Obama hits Romney with new Medicare study:

in response to panola60:

Obamacare's Gross Costs Double to $1.76 Trillion, CBO Projects

The gross costs of the national healthcare law rammed through Congress by President Barack Obama will reach an estimated $1.76 trillion over 10 years – nearly twice the amount originally projected.

$1.76 Trillion over 10 years? How? This year alone it was estimated at$805 Billion. That will turn out to be too low. It will be $1 Trillion next year. We take in $2.3 Trillion in tax revenue. Health care will consume almost half that within 2 years. If you look at the last few NFP numbers people being removed from the labor force every month. This makes the unemployed number look better. It also is saying less people working = less people paying in. That means the $2.3 Trillion in revenue will start to decline while everything else is rising. Taxes are going to rise or benefits are going to decline. In Europe they choose the latter and call it austerity. That has the same effect on the economy as raising taxes. It's a catch 22. Either way the rising costs caused by government spending to mask the state of the real economy kills you.

The only way to fix this right now is to cut the federal budget in half and get the government out of the way of business, all business, allow free markets to work, price discovery (cost of goods and services) is a function of the markets, not government. Sadly, that won't happen because people are to dependent on .gov and bringing real cuts like that won't get politicians elected. It will also mean price deflation in all assets. The boomers won't like that. It is why Bernanke is hell bent on artificially supporting home prices, stock prices, auto prices, everything. Capitalism is a boom bust mechanism. Central banks around the world are desperately trying to stop the deflationary cycle. I don't think they will be able to slowly deflate 30 years of artificial inflation caused by a credit binge.

Your medicare and Rx bennies are going to be drastically reduced once we get this election over. That or your taxes are going to rise dramatically. This is just simple math. And massive spending by Rx and health care lobbies in DC.

Do a google search for Alternative minimum tax (AMT) increase. .Gov is looking for money and they know how to get it. The IRS knows no donkeys or elephants. In 2010 only 4.4 million paid AMT. If congress does nothing this year 33 million will pay AMT in 2013. Bye Bye middle class, small business. There is no solution. It's just human nature. We run through the history books in a boom & bust type cycle. I think the bust is coming.

What's happening in Greece is fascinating. While Greece is a small country I believe it is a model of what will happen in larger nations as they destroy themselves from within economically, socially, and morally. http://www.thetrumpet.com/article/983... This will spiral into a disaster for the people of Greece as time goes on. Irony, the inventors of capitalism spiraling back into communism. Just as the stages of the republic spell out.

I know most people here in the US, and other western nations are distracted by the bread and circuses, lies from the left and the right, and believe that nothing like this could ever happen in America. That everything is rose colored, and that unicorns really do exist. Keep believing that! I also have some bridges to sell you. I promise they can only go up in value!

David Stockman, former Reagan administration budget director spitting the truth on CNBC this morning. He will never be invited back. CNBC does not like criticism of central banks, or someone that speaks the truth. Watch Mr. Stockman. He lays it out pretty well. Or, keep arguing about who's party can F up the country more than it already is. http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=...

Excellent comment.

I'm sorry the Kool Aide Drinkers don't understand it.

Excellent post? It's a little off.

Dodd-Frank hasn't been implemented, and has nothing to do with mortgages. Without the re-implementation of Glass-Stegal, turbo Timmy, and Bernanke will be back asking for a blank check again telling us the world will end if the big banks go down. They are already insolvent minus the accounting games being played. No mark to market, etc. This game can only last so long. Math is not a policy, or assumption.

Bush was the one championing the high rate of home ownership. He did see the problem developing, it was too late by that time. Bernanke said mortgages wouldn't be a problem. Brilliant guy that Bernanke is.

Gm bail out is mostly correct regarding the unions.

Green energy is B.S. at this point.

Health care will self destruct soon. Obama and the Republicans won't do what's necessary to fix it.

Obama can't talk about accomplishments, because he has none. Sure, he passed the Stimulus and Obamacare and Dodd Frank, but it is hard to sell any of this as success when it is all hugely unpopular and terrible policy. To most Americans, it doesn't compute.

The stimulus was a pork-laden exercise in rewarding backers of Barack through investment in crony capitalist green-energy pipe dreams and transfer payments to cities and states to help avoid having to reckon with their bloated public union payrolls (big Obama supporters). Because if you vote Barack, you should never have to go back, to a day when government wasn't bleeding the taxpayer dry with exorbitant salaries and pensions for public sector employees -- if there ever was such a time.

So...he didn't talk about the Stimulus, but he did mention his bailout of GM and Chrysler and how they can't make cars fast enough. Yet...surprisingly, saving GM -- or more precisely the UAW, has cost taxpayers more than $25 billion and GM is headed for bankruptcy, yet again. He didn't mention that. But then, why would he?

Obamacare, a multiple thousand page legislation destroying medical care in America, is ever more unpopular by the day. It turns out, you can't keep your insurance provider, even if you like it, and taking $716 billion out of Medicare cannot be portrayed as good for seniors. And...shock of all shocks, premiums will not go down and Obama's dream of transformation will cost taxpayers trillions to implement.

Dodd Frank, another multiple thousand page legislation, has solved nothing, except making it nearly impossible for people to get mortgages and businesses to get financing. He didn't mention Dodd Frank, but he did mention greedy banks. They ruined everything – after Frank, Dodd, ACORN and Obama forced them to hand out mortgages like candy to folks that couldn't afford them – thereby triggering the great mortgage meltdown which caused the great recession.

The stimulus went to the banks. Almost all of it. Hank Paulson, turbo tax Timmy said the world would end and there would be tanks in the streets if we the tax payers didn't give these two idiots a blank check.

GM will be broke again soon. Channel stuffing is not selling cars. Dealers are being stuffed with GM cars around the world. Subprime auto lending is booming again!

We are ruining our own health care system among other industries by abandoning free market principals. Price discovery is a function of free markets, not governments. Neither party will do what needs to be done to stop it from self destructing.

Dodd-Frank hasn't and never will be implemented. The banks are still fighting it. It has nothing to do with a person getting a mortgage. We don't need Dodd-Frank. There is a perfectly good law already written. Glass-Stegal, Clinton repealed it. It was put in place after the great depression so the banks couldn't blow up the financial system. Odd how we can't learn from history?

It was Bush that created more home owners than at any time in history. That worked well?

Klaus is correct under you. It's hard to tell who is the conservative looking at Bush vs Obamas record on all things military and in cutting taxes.

All smoke and mirrors. Divide and conquer.

Written on Clinton boosts Obama in rousing convention speech :

Another 4 years, another $5 Trillion, $21 Trillion by 2016. The End. This is the scenario no matter who gets elected. We can't stop borrowing now. Even if we wanted to. Skyrocketing health care costs are chewing up the Federal budget. Add defense, entitlements, and interest on the debt and there is not much left. Low interest rates are a double edged sward. We are caught between a rock and a hard place. Rising interest rates (there coming) will consume more of the budget.

It's amazing that governments and their people allow supposedly smart people like Bernanke and Draghi to believe that they are bigger and more powerful than world markets.

People are so s----- they absolutely deserve what is coming. We can only hope that a global depression is where is ends. Global wars tend to follow monetary collapse.

You can all get back to you scheduled programming now. The donkey and the elephant are very important! There's never been a bigger sham in the history of the planet. Birth certificates, tax returns, college transcripts. All false flags distracting the morons like bread and circuses. Carry on.

"GREAT PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA" That is why I should vote? For Obama? Are you joking?

I think that's what people were told when Hitler came to power? That he was great, or something like that?

Maybe the Germans were told Hitler isn't too bad? Not as bad as that Nero guy who burned Christians for street lights? Lesser of two evils type thing.

Written on Obama's re-election road: Hope and a hard climb as DNC begins:

Klaus,
Convince me to vote for Obama. Tell me why I should? Give me a solid reason. I have no reason to vote for either party. I believe they both will fail. Tell me what Obama has done to further the American Constitution! The American dream for hard working people. Give me a reason to vote!

Written on Obama's re-election road: Hope and a hard climb as DNC begins:

I wouldn't call it a surrender. I'm just capable of having a debate without being emotionally attached to one party or the other. I see both parties for what they are. Both parties have been doing exactly what every other Government in history has done. Seek power over the people. Human Nature. There is no way to change it. History will repeat itself as it always does. Maybe history and mathematics are irrelevant now? Somehow I doubt that will be the case.

Klaus,
Say what you like. We all know Obama is your boy. Or put another way. He is your man. He is your team. I guess this can be chalked up to our difference in age. No I do not insult anyone here very often, if ever. I actually may be the best friend you have on this here comment page. Only because we can agree to disagree.

If I had a viable dog in this fight and it was a male. That would be my boy, regardless of race. If female, my girl. Unfortunately I have no dog in this fight. Romney is not "my boy". Nor is Obama. I'll wait until 2016. I will have a team to vote for by then.

Written on Obama's re-election road: Hope and a hard climb as DNC begins:

Klaus,
"Your Boy" is a slang term. In context it means that Obama is the one you favor, you team. It has nothing to do with the KKK or the Nazis. Freely elected? Maybe?

So that's why Germany won't leave the Euro? I guess it will be better for the Germans to let the rest of Europe drag them into the abyss with them. I doubt it. They will leave.

How do you figure George Bush is responsible for 30+ years of unmitigated credit expansion and Government spending not only in America but around the world? He wasn't.

The education system in this country and around the globe must have been in ruins for the last several decades. None of you (60 and over) can read the writing on the wall. You all believe Romney or Obama will keep the ship from sinking. History says you'll be wrong.

You say there is only one winner in 2012. I say there will be no winners among the American people. Only the politicians win.

Klaus, I hope you are in good health. You only need to last another 5 years or less to see that I am right. I'm taking the under on the 5 years.

While nobody really knows who wrote the following and the US is really a Republic (not anymore) not a Democracy it rings true and we are near the end stage in my opinion.....

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to selfishness;
From selfishness to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.

Klaus,
We are just shy of 47 million Americans on food stamps today. In 2008 when Obama took office it was 31 million. The only way we get to 100 million is 4 more years of "yes we can"! I know your boy Obama can do it! The R&R ticket wants to trim the program. Boooo!

Klaus, your other boy super mario is going to save the Euro tomorrow. I don't think your fellow Germans are going to like the way he does it? Will they go along with it? I don't know? How much longer until the Germans jump off the Titanic? They will, I'm just not sure how. Returning to the Mark will lead to the problem the Swiss are having with the Franc, a rapidly appreciating currency. That will make German manufacturing less competitive.

We are living in interesting times. History is repeating (at least rhyming) around the globe. I'm very anxious to see how it plays out this time. One thing is certain. Everything the boom generation believes to be reality is going to come to an abrupt and sobering end.

Greedy, power hungry politicians, central banks playing games with currency markets, and bond markets believing they are bigger than the market itself has never, ever in the history of world ended in anything but disaster.

Written on Obama's re-election road: Hope and a hard climb as DNC begins:

So... I've been thinking quite a bit about my up coming choice. I'm coming around to Klaus's hero.

My thought process. They make some pretty nice double wides these days. Maybe pick one up, set in a non tornado prone area? Maybe the pacific Northwest? Beautiful country! Maybe on or near a lake? Maybe near the coast? Buy lots of precious metals now? Bury them. Hoard cash over the next few years. Bury it. Show nothing on paper. Become unemployed. Bang! Free health care, Free cell phones! Unemployment checks! Energy assistance payments! A snap card! Shirt! What am I working so hard for? Why deal with the stress when I can live free and worry about nothing? There is so much free shirt available! As my family is shrinking I'm am seriously tempted to do this just to see if I can. I'm thinking....I can! Yes we all can!!

Obama 2012! and 2016 for a 3rd term!!! The Constitution is outdated! Update that shirt!!

P.S. IRS, I'm only joking.
