Written on Letter to the Editor: Support the Marriott expansion:

As a former employee of the Marco Island Marriott, I used to go from 80 hours a week in season, down to 20 hours if I was lucky out of season. I then had to worry about losing my medical benefits for me and my family, so I would pick up shifts and get work from local businesses. This helped pay my mortgage and my bills. Therefore,I am all for the expansion if it will provide a consistent income for many. Why the extra 300 parking spaces? Marco Island Marriott employs over 700 people add to that the guests, when large groups come in, they need the extra parking. As for the obstruction of the view. All the 1 story houses already have their views restricted with the large solid brick wall that is already there in the parking lot. Marco Island is a tourist hotspot, whether the permanent residents and seasonal residents like it or not. It is time for Marco Island to grow and with the expansion of the Marco Island Marriott this will help. Everybody who now resides on the island was probably a tourist at one point or did we all forget that?

in response to RayPray:

"The benefits of additional rooms as well as expanded meeting space to enhance business during the offseason months is clearly evident."

>>> Not to this homeowner. Off season is the best time for homeowners

"The positive impact of the Beach Resort to the community is simple."

>>> Simply, it is zero!

"many businesses would not be able to shoulder and offseason months."

>>> Why should homeowners care? We didn't ask you to shoulder any offseason for us....

To RayPray...are you serious? "Why should homeowners care? We didn't ask you to should any offseason for us..." Without the local store, the local barbershop, the local restaurant, the local hair/nail salon any small type of business, you as a homeowner would have to go all the way up to Naples to get anything done. Then if it wasn't for these big corporations that hire hundreds of local people and assist in the success of small businesses and in turn help them hire local people, there would not be anybody to cater to you. So you as a homeowner SHOULD care?
