Written on Fiscal cliff: Naples visitors tell congressmen to stop 'sitting on their duffs' :

I don't think going over the cliff would be a bad thing. 47%(did I say that) of us don't pay taxes, the country needs money. Going over the cliff will cut funds to a lot of expenditures we should not have. Our debt is my concern, we are spending far too much, borrowing 43 cents on each dollar we spend. Not good, Americans have to wise up.

Written on FACT CHECK: Ryan takes factual shortcuts in speech :

in response to muskybob:

Where did you get your facts?? possibly Chris Matthews at MSNBC

So Obama removes the Fed requirement that Clinton put in place, waiving the work requirement for welfare law. That is a fact no matter how you twist it. Naples News, your in Republican Land. No more half truths.

Written on Young gentlemen will soon defend our Freedom. (Steve DeFillippo\u2019s Point of View):

It's been 47 years for me since I did the "Yellow Footprints" at PI. Thank God for these young men.
I don't know if you made Vietnam or not. "PTSD" is real and a problem with combatants and support troops alike. Today's troops are asked to do many tours in hostile area's where in VN one was more common. My opinion, this will be a hardship on those who served and their families in the future. At the rate we are going, this volunteer service is not working. I think we need another draft, a non deferred draft. If it is worth fighting, then everyone should have equal chance of being involved. Collage men and woman, kids working or not, everyone. Hmmm, might also be the way to end war if the right kids are drafted. Yes some will say the nation will be better with educated kids. I say that was the reasoning with the deferred draft during Vietnam. That didn't work, did it? Look at the country now.
