HEARD ALL THIS BEFORE! NO NEED FOR A HIGH SCHOOL! WE SHOULDNT EVEN BE A CITY! LELY IS A GREAT SCHOOL, WILL PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL DIVERSITY THAT WILL PREPARE OUR CHILDREN FOR LIFE. SOMETHING THIS CONCEPT WILL NEVER DO.
HAS ANYONE EVER POLLED THE PARENTS ON THE ISLAND TO SEE HOW MANY WILL ACTUALLY ATTEND? I HAVE HEARD THAT VERY FEW WILL WASTE THEIR TIME ON THIS SCHOOL AND IT WILL NOT SUCCEED. OPEN A SMALL ACADEMY FOR THE FEW KIDS THAT NEED TO BE CODDLED, GO AHEAD....A HIGH SCHOOL IS NOT NEEDED!

This school will be for the parents that need to continue to "coddle" their kids right up to the last minute. All the kids that need to be near mommy will go there. Is a Marco Island University next? Why not? Our kids cant deal with the real world so lets keep them under our wing until the last moment.....

I agree. The manner in which the naming occured is very sneaky. The council broke all rules and did not give the public sufficient knowledge of the issue. This is nothing against Mr Tucker but if we are to name buildings and rooms after Marco politicians than the public should have more say. I find it funny that the council agreed to creat some type of procedure for naming in the future, but not when it pertains to Mr Tucker....they rammed his naming down our throats. You cant tell me this was not planned!

First, Mr Glaub could have made his points in a more diplomatic way, but the bottom line is that he disagreed with what council was trying and succeeded in doing which was slamming this naming issue down our throats. Mr Popoff has no right to take away Mr Glaub's freedom of speech...he used no profanity. He only spoke what he felt. Is Marco becoming communist Russia??? Lastly I do not feel there is a need to name ANYTHING after ANYONE....we should only use generic names like VETERANS PARK. When you compare one generation to another there will always be people who do not have an appreciation of what someone has done. Does anyone today have a clue who JUDGE JOLLEY is??? Yet the main access point to this island is named after him!
In 20 years NO ONE WILL KNOW WHO GLENN TUCKER WAS EITHER! The same holds true for TOMMIE BARFIELD....Do any children in this island REALLY know who she is???
These are 2 examples that we should NEVER name ANYTHING after people...we have so few opportunities so we need to maximize them by naming things after generic entities like Veterans that have been here long before we and will be her long after we are gone.
The thing I mostly dislike about what transpired is that council once again made a decision that affects the entire city without allowing public input. The naming of probably the most symbolic building was named after a half hour discussion. This should not have been! This should have remained as a DISCUSSION and set for the next meedting to entertain others and vote after the public was made more aware.

Fiala says....the people of Immokalee will be paying for the city of marco's cra....It goes both ways donna! The people of Marco are paying for the City of Immokalee's existence! If it werent for the exhoritant taxes that the people of Marco pay to the county, the people of Immokalee would pay A LOT MORE! I think the people of Immokalee should kiss the taxpayer of Marco's feet. Marco residents pay a disproportionate amount of taxes that go all over collier county and NEVER come back to Marco...dont even go there Donna!
