Written on PHOTOS: Marco Island resident claims city, sewage project responsible for her sinking house:

themessiah: The strp program in this particular area happened last summer....the damage happened last summer. So it's not just "DAYS" after anything. One thing doesn't have anything to do with the other. Who are you the Messiah for? Yeah, I thought so.

Written on PHOTOS: Marco Island resident claims city, sewage project responsible for her sinking house:

Deltarome, I appreciate your expertise. Stands to reason that houses built on a "floating slab"might not be stable enough to be near wetland area. How permits were pulled back then, we will never know. But I do know this house is about 20 years old. How come this hasn't happened thru numerous torrential rainstorms, flooding and all the hurricanes it weathered?
I am not looking for reasons to increase costs to the city or the taxpayers, but no soil tests or any investigations of that area were made before the sewer project barged in. They were going to put the lift station on the pond site where the tidal flow exists (that keeps that pond alive) before the neighborhood objected. They have a schedule and a quota, with little regard to anything else.
They can at least accept the responsibility of contributing to that house's demise. It is more than a coincidence that that house twisted and sunk the same time the city screwed around with that area.

Written on PHOTOS: Marco Island resident claims city, sewage project responsible for her sinking house:

Mr. Deltarome engineer, I live 3 houses from the pond. I watched the pipes on her land dewatering it. The pond water level went dangerously the lowest I have ever seen it in 15 years. Sink holes appeared on her property. Do you work for the city?

Written on Letter to the Editor: From roses to rabbits:

Typical...when some one has "your number" and you know it and can't answer his challenges, you go for the jugular. Dirty. Shame on you, McMullan's got ur number. Admit it.

Written on Letter to the Editor: Dead horse alert:

Yes, if you and I go to the grocery store, we should pay the same price. Tell me why that doesn't apply to the Sewers? The $20,000+ assessment for new sewers is paying for the overpriced, archaic system we bought for repairs and upkeep. Unfair and I can't believe not illegal.

Written on Marco Island woman charged with improper exhibition of firearm:

Mai and her family are good people. Everyone has a breaking point. We tend to shun anything mental, mainly because we are so quick to judge, especially with things we don't understand or simply are not aware. Please know there are people out there that do understand and are willing to help in any way we can. Unfortunately children are victimized in situations like this and my thoughts and prayers are with the whole family. Just know you will not be shunned or avoided by the people that understand and care. And you truly will know now who your true friends are. Been there. Take good care, everything will be better soon...with help from those who care.

Written on Letter to the Editor: Who’s running Marco?:

Yeah, this "expert in the field for 40 years" was the one who admitted that we bought a utility (Florida Water) in desperate "disrepair" and "overpaid" for it, even though he was a vital proponent for the purchase. Now the newly sewered people are paying for that mistake. AND he still considers himself an expert in the field and obviously IS considered one by most of the "powers to be". Yet, he wants us to make the same mistake with the electric company. I don't get it.

Written on Guest commentary: A rose by any other name is still a tax:

Hey Issler, explain to me why your cohorts on the council have managed to create ways of raising the cost of living on this island in the little time they have been in office and continue to as we speak? I didn't hear that in all their campaign promises. Also that it could be justified that we hire 8 new city employees at this time? So far it seems like my taxes, water/sewer bill, electric bill and most likely a bridge toll will be the great accomplishment of your buddies. How do you support your thought process?

Written on Editorial: For whom the bridge tolls:

Of course there will be a toll. How else can you keep the riff-raff off this island. Another island farce.

Written on Marco Island to raise taxes, add fire assessment, increase staff :

None of you get it. It's all a sham. These things are a done deal, the council just puts on a show to make us think they want our input and then vote on it. The fire assessment, the STRP, the toll on the bridge and now the electric company purchase. They are all a "done deal". And a "deal" they are/were. Pockets are lined and will continue to be lined. Voting and referendums are a farce. The decisions are made way before the votes are in. The "study" on the electric company purchase is a laugh. Believe me, it will be purchased by the city. And our electric bill will soar, as our water/sewer has. How do you think they can get rid of the middle class on this island? The goal is "upper class" Marco Island only...bye bye "peasants".

Written on Letter to the Editor: Church of God:

Organized religion is all about the money. Money first, saving your soul is not on the priority list. Most pastors, elders, priests, rabbis, etc. are not hurting, they are usually fat and happy. Nice homes, nice cars, travel, etc. I tried to come back after 20 years hoping it had changed and it didn't. Sorry, Julie, but it's all about the money...not peaceful surroundings or sereneness for buried loved ones. Go to any church....their homily is how much you can give to the parish, then, by the way, there is a God and you should be good, etc, etc, etc, blah blah blah....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...then you won't go to hell, just give it up and God will protect you. Yeah, doesn't surprise me at all.

Written on Letter to the Editor: Lies:

Wasn't the purpose of the first letter to refute the fact that the lot was supposed to be within the church community and not sold for commercial reasons? Okay, maybe the facts might have been inaccurate (I didn't check) but mortgages are paid off by donations from the parish, not land donated for other reasons and certainly not for commercial use.

Written on Letter to the editor: Another outrage:

Instead of insulting Mr. Hall, why don't you tell us all why you would want a person who has lied (and if you don't agree, let us know what you thought happened with the photo evidence he claimed he had), a person who has continuously gotten away with a myriad of conflicts of interest on this island, a person who refused to vote on topics at the city council meetings (that was his job as a council member), a person who encouraged balking at the citizens of Marco who wanted to speak at meetings but were turned away, a person who is arrogant, condescending and untrustworthy. Why would you want a person like this on anything on this island. If anyone needs to leave, it's not Mr. Hall, it's Mr. Tucker, he's so full of himself. Oh, and Fossil, the 11 or so comments above are only from people who have nothing else to do, but to reap any benefit the likes of Mr. Tucker can give them. And believe me, it's not pretty. The reason he has gotten away with all he has is because money talks and bs walks.

Written on New idea for controversial Tract K: Solar panels to power schools:

I don't know. Some how I smell a rat. What to do with tract K? Hmmmm let's see how we can make this all look good. Solar energy....yeah, that's the ticket....now can we buy the electric company and tie it all together. It'll make us look good and if we own our own utilities...water, electric, then we can control this island exclusively and raise the rates any time we want. Yeah, it's lookin' better and better. Some day Marco Island will only house the rich and famous. Got to price those middle class people right outta here....after all, we're the good guys and want to save the environment....yeah, solar is the ticket! Let's getum!

Written on Marco residents say dewatering drying pond affecting habit:

Leave it up to the city to threaten these residents that it will cost them more money if they insist on delaying the dewatering process to protect this sensitive environment. Why wasn't this all taken into account initially? I'll tell you why. They didn't do their homework and hoped no one would notice and they really don't care about the impact it would have on the environment. Let's face it, if that pond dried up it would enable more concrete on this island and less flora and fauna, their goal no doubt.

Written on Pro-sewer candidates win Marco City Council election:

The sign on the bridge should now read: "Welcome to Marcomiami". Get ready everyone, for cement cement cement, building up up and up and no more green. Marco could have had character, now it is on it's way to become the next Miami. Progress you say. Whatever.

Written on Grave faces dot anti-sewer gathering as Marco results roll in:

Change the sign to "Welcome to Marcomiami" and get ready for cementing over any green left on the island, building up up up, and tolls on the bridge!

Written on Letter to the Editor: When will you listen?:

Right on Linda, well done. I, like you, also question how the original reason for this unnessary STRP (that we are polluting the waters with our septics) has been totally discounted when it was proven wrong. Now how can we justify the discharge into our waters of hydrogen sulfide and whatever else? It sounds like a total paradox to me! No septic will do this kind of damage and no septic will do the damage of the first time this sewer system backs up or has a problem due to a storm. I question this "forge ahead no matter what" attitude. The only thing that could motivate this behavior is deep pockets!

Written on Marco’s city manager wants same job in Naples:

Good Riddance. By the way, bring Reinke and Joel with you. This is the only place people aren't asked to clean their desks and don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out once it is made public that you want out. Now what happens when you don't get the job....do I smell a lame duck? Maybe you should ask for another pay raise to stay...unbelievable.
Hey without Moss, maybe Sousa won't be so afraid to pull those old plans for a dog park he rigorously supported 5 years ago until Moss got in his face.
Moss the Boss.....bye bye.

Written on Letter: For the birds:

Come quick to Granada Drive and Balmoral because there is a great pond with every species of birds you can think of in Florida and across the street are mangroves that some times look like a blanket of snow with ibis rooting for food with an occasional dot of pink representing the roseatte spoonbill...I say come quick because the city of Marco will be installing a lift station right in the midst of this sanctuary and dewatering will surely kill anything that lives in this environmentally sensitive area. Another part of Marco sans wildlife....thanks guys.

Written on ENVIRON to begin full-scale tests:

Is it my imagination or has all the dewatering stopped since Environs is here to test? Certainly it has stopped on the main more-frequented streets. Also, before we check out the Davies/Neylon connection you conjured up, Mr. Issler, why don't we re-address the Rony Joel/lift station connection. Do I smell Kick-back?

Written on Hydrogen sulfide air tests underway on Marco:

Is it my imagination or has all the dewatering been halted since Environ got here? Coincidence?

Written on On the Town: Signs, signs, everywhere a sign:

Okay, we are taking care of the owls that can fly away if disturbed, what about our poor 'ole tortoises that don't have a chance. How about some substantial signs for them!

Written on Second person arrested following Marco house party:

This is the best! Look forward to all your comments for a good hearty laugh in the morning. Dr. Zecchino, I want what you're smokin'...half of your stuff goes over my head, but you're the best....love you! Love the one-liners from the others. My take on this is....guys look a little further, I know this guy owns a banjo somewhere and squeals like a pig. At least he didn't get his sister pregnant (this time). Yay for condoms!

Written on Letter: Avoiding inappropriateness:

Hahahahaha.....I think I'm falling in love with you Strike3..

Written on Marco rejects accelerating sewer construction:

Holy Crap....there is a God!!!!!
Have to admit, didn't think ya had it in ya Popoff!
Still skeptical.....but blasted.....you made my day!!!!

Written on Council proposes November election, tables public service tax:

Are you kidding me? It is an insult to our intelligence to suggest moving the election to November, especially under the GUISE that it would be ONLY to save us money!!!!!! to further allow this unnessary STRP project along. No.....saving us money would be having the election when it stands, electing the proper people, and stopping the STRP ASAP! Ohmygod....the CM and council really do think we are stupid! They just don't give up! Is it because they are so deep in this doo-doo, they can't allow it to stop under any conditions? How deep are they? Really? Then to remove the comments and adjust the article?? Is this the good 'ole USA 'cause I feel like I'm living behind the iron curtain!!!!!!! I am incensed!

Written on Angels in flight: Local men, women provide free air transportation for those in need:

In March, 2004, I called Angels in Flight to see if they could help me fly my husband to Pittsburgh for a Cyberknife treatment to remove a returning tumor on his lung. His health was deteriorating quickly and we had a precious few days to make the arrangements. It was a Friday when we learned they would treat him if we could get there by Tuesday. I was told by a switchboard person that Angels in Flight is not available for calls on the weekend, to call back Monday. I couldn't risk the wait and made my own flight arrangements. He was in so much pain that a first-class passenger offered his seat to him. He declined because he did not want to be seperated from me. The trip was grueling he was in so much pain. I guess you can't have cancer on the weekends.

Written on Unhappy homeowners allege construction problems:

Good, now will the council please reverse the decision to build another useless mixed use building on the corner of San Marco and Balmoral (next to the useless unrented Schilling building and the unrented Provence}? After all they voted against it, then voted for it based on Dan's good reputation on the island. Let's bring it up for vote for the third time so it get's voted down because Danny boy doesn't need any more money and his reputation is questionable.

Written on DiSciullo's voting pattern on STRP surprises some residents:

I knew it...I knew it...I knew it!!!! I wish I could remember who I bet that she was going to fall under the pressure and turn turn turn. I'd be in some serious money! I'm not hooking up until the EPA advises me that my septic is polluting our waters (that's about when hell freezes over). Stop the STRP now and mandate that the homeowners on septic send proof of an annual maintenance program....that'll be a great solution to what Moss the Boss and his lackeys inaccurately claims. Speaking of lackeys....does his pal Rony have ties to any of the newer bid people, or is it just the (100) weigh station people. KACHING!

Written on Council agrees on shared costs for wastewater plant:

It's all hogwash...All they did was figure they needed about 137 million....Let's see there's 5500 properties that are sewerless.....hmmmm 5500 X $25,000. =
$137.5 million......that's it! Easy. Let's get 'um. Stick it to 'em Willie!!!!!!!!!!!
