Written on Report: Horse that died after dog attack found with wounds only to its lower legs :

The Sheriffs office stinks always a cheap excuse.Lets put this in perspective a horse is being rode where ever.Horses do not display aggresive behavior so we cannot think for one moment that the horse started this situation,so it must have been the uncontrolled dogs.Okay so you are a horse being attacked by two large dogs in my books enough to give you a heart attack.Who really cares what the poor horse died of IT DIED.And if it had stayed at home that day it would probably would still be alive now.The two dogs are without a doubt a menace to our society and therefore should be destroyed(I have two Huskys and I love them dearly however I would have them put down now if they displayed this kind of aggression}.If the woman can,t afford to keep the dogs she is not in full control. This story sickens me Why have any animal that you can,t control in the first place. My heart goes out to the suffering the horse must have undergone and to the owners of the poor animal.

Written on Letters to the Editor: Unwelcome signs:

Marco Island and its residents have already done an extremely good job of telling visitors they are not welcome. For years now all I have read in the local blogs is how annoying it is when the snowbirds come and how you should stop short term rentals etc etc.You made your nest now sleep in it.You deserve what you get.

Written on Naples-Marco Island drops drastically in Best Performing Cities rankings :

Look Morons forget the statistics. The reason Marco is in this state, is because of the small minded minority who think they own the Island.Yes those who continually moan about the noise of the music across Smokehouse bay from the Esplanade, those who moan about people renting their houses out, those who moan about the snowbirds making more traffic on the roads. In 10 years time these old farts will have departed from this earth and will allow the normal people on the Island to get on with their lives. If Marco wants businesses to prosper then build more resturants and places with good entertainment. Turn Marco into a fun place, instead of the place where midnight is at 9pm.Like it or not one day in the not to distant future Marco will be one of the best places to holiday for people from all around the world.Build it and they will come and when they do this Island will be a very wealthy place to those who have a business here and those who need jobs.Marco will be ranked No1 in Florida. The only thing on Marco at this present moment in time is the square on a Saturday night.People having fun at 12pm.I,m sure When people cross the road from the Hilton and the Marriot and arrive at this this hub of activity they must think it is brilliant. Its the future. When there is more of this then there will be more jobs and succesful businesses than Marco can cope with, just open your eyes and see what you have or could have. For Gods sake Wake up.

Written on POLL: Amplified music at Marco’s Esplanade carries council support :

In my books the council have made a good decision on this one.By not allowing the minority destroy the lives of the majority. The Esplanade was always going to be a meeting place with some sort of entertaiment and what a great place it is.I congratulate the council members who voted in favour of allowing music and welcome you to the year 2009.There is so much gloom and doom at the moment, surely we should be allowed to let our hair down now and then.Remember this is the fun place called Marco Island not a refuge for miserable old farts.Have fun in the sun or buy some ear defenders for 5 bucks.Have a nice day.

Written on POLL: Parking tickets at home tick off some Island residents :

in response to MrBreeze:

Jaguar, Why not defend your "Flophouse Renters" some more. I have an idea, everyone should pave around their homes so there is parking for all including your "Renters". This way we can all be assured that your income will not be disturbed.

My rental income is not the issue here nor is it of any importance to me I neither rely or need it.This is about illegal and inconsiderate parking that could result in injury to a child or an eldery person and God knows there are plenty of those on the Island.Lets just consentrate on this please.Save your usual drivel for another day and discuss the issue in front of you.

Written on POLL: Parking tickets at home tick off some Island residents :

Why did I know as I read this article it would be the short term renters fault, some of you are just beyond belief.I suspose its also the renters fault that theres noise at the Esplanade.Oh and while your at it the road surfaces are wearing thin that must be the renters.Remember what,s good for the Goose is good for the Gander.Rules are rules for everyone. As for MARCUP ISLAND having some Gestapo like tendancies, this has been evident for a few years now.I,m suprised this had,nt been noticed before by more of you.

Written on Economy has Princess on brief hiatus :

Greetings from the U.K.Because of the sheer exhaustion of replying to your stupid blogs over the past few months my Wife and I have decided to do a European tour and are staying with some friends we actually met on Marco who live here in England.Anyway I am sat over looking the sea in a place called Sandbanks that is situated on the south coast apparently one of the most expensive pieces of real estate in the world,(Google it) oops there I go again on about money. As you correctly say there is a world recession, but believe it or not tourists are welcomed with open arms here, I can rent a property here for 1week,2weeks or even a month. The restaurants are packed the boats are full and life is wonderful no idiots like you here.Considering it was Christopher Columbus who discovered the good old U.S.A it would seem that some of us have gone backwards in our train of thought as how to keep the local economy going. Here they are doing just fine.Keep the blogs coming its just such a fantastic source of amusement to us and our hosts. regards Jaguar and have a nice day.

Written on Economy has Princess on brief hiatus :

Is this the start of the decline regarding tourists and people thinking of buying here. #17.Can you tell me what relevance the rental income is, regarding this subject.I can,t see where your heading.Surely you can nearly work it out for yourself.18 weeks at $1=?,18 weeks at $2=?Anyway it is simply not the issue and certainly none of your business.I don,t discuss this with my friends let alone an idiot like you.

Written on Can Marco regulate rudeness?:

#8 what all ten of you.As for the rental income I can tell you now the rents only just cover the maintenance on the house.THERE IS NO PROFIT WHATSOEVER.Shall I say it again THERE IS NO PROFIT WHATSOEVER.

Oh by the way, a new set of renters turned up next door to me on Friday, they were out on the lanai having fun last night. But you know it was all silent well before 10pm.

Written on Can Marco regulate rudeness?:

#6 Define what you mean by the residents. Are we talking here all or a few?Or to put it another way when the meetings take place, just how many people attend who are complaining and how many attend who are against any action. If its as big a problem as you say why does the whole city not turn up.Perhaps a referendum is the answer, then all the residents can choose not just the few who have nothing better to do.

Written on Waterways committee grapples with Marco’s failing seawalls:

You really got stuck behind the door when the brains were being given out Mr Breeze. No-one buys a HOME thinking they are going to lose money. Most of us hope that yes, we might indeed, one day make a little profit out of it. a little something to leave the kids ALL OFF US invest a great deal of money turning our homes into our own little bits of heaven and the vast majority of us use our hard earned bucks to do it. That's what makes the difference between a HOUSE AND A HOME and that's why, its so very sad when people who dared to take the plunge have to give up their dream often through no fault of their own. But then again we couldn't expect a heartless soul like you who so much enjoys the misfortune of other people to understand that sentiment really could we.? Your just far too busy laughing yourself stupid at people who stand to lose a great deal more than you simply because their dream was bigger than yours. What makes you think that you are any more proud of your home than the rest of us?
Go get a brain Mr Breeze, Actually no don't, if you did actually have one, you could be very dangerous

Written on Waterways committee grapples with Marco’s failing seawalls:

One day in the future there will be guided tours around Marco. But then it will be a ghost town.1st it was the septic tanks and mains drainage at a cost of $25,000.2nd they stopped people renting out their properties making it difficult for some to survive.3rd we have to replace the seawalls at a cost of $25,000.Hang on I,ll just go out to my garden and pick some more money off the Marco tree.Next I suppose we will have wear a mask with a dial on it and be charged for the air we breath. What have I ever done to deserve all of this cr**.Give me a break Marco Please.

Written on Letter to the Editor: Protect our residential neighborhoods:

This is why as responsible owners we instructed our rental agency to block out all public holidays when renting out our property.DO NOT TAR ME WITH THAT BRUSH.This situation has got to stop and Shadow, I honestly sympathise with you.But a 30 day minimum is not the answer. All it will achieve is to kill peoples dreams, not solve the problem.I wish I could give you the answer to this situation, however I can,t This is left to the people we have elected to make decisions for us that,s ALL OF US.

Written on Weekly rentals: Hotels from hell next door or angel to ailing economy?:

I was going to respond to Mr Breezes comments whom I feel has a venomous tongue with a response to match his blogs but after composing myself I then thought why should I lower myself to this sub humans level. It is obvious the man is incapable of normal thoughts and typical of the minority Of people on Marco who are trying to make this a major issue infact their number 1 priority in life, how sad you are. There is an old saying LIVE AND LET LIVE.I think enough has been said now on this subject and it is begining to get out of hand.We have all had our say lets leave it now to the powers to be and pray to god that a sensible compromise is achieved.Enough is enough.

Written on Weekly rentals: Hotels from hell next door or angel to ailing economy?:

Written on Weekly rentals: Hotels from hell next door or angel to ailing economy?:

Shadow the property across the street,is it a rental or are mum & dad out of town for a few days and their children taking full advantage of the freedom? Susan Jane now you have me totally confused I honestly thought that Marco Island was a holiday destination, after all I see it advertised as that in all the brochures across the world.Never as a Waterside or venetian bay up market shopping centre or an Island with top notch restaurants I mean you can hardly call Porky,s or Snooks gourmet eating. You would,nt come for industry because there is none,so in my books the only reason is because its a Major holiday destination and always will be.However we all seem to be united in the fact that something is needed to sort this matter out.The only people who have anything to fear by an ordinance are the very people that are causing the problem in my opinion.

Written on Weekly rentals: Hotels from hell next door or angel to ailing economy?:

MsLD,what happens if the house next door to you is occupied by a noisy family, remember not all neighbours are quite, you might then have to put up with it 365days a year. And when you say constantly rented out, as I said earlier in 2008 which was a good year for my rentals,in total it amounted to 18weeks not 52.

Written on Weekly rentals: Hotels from hell next door or angel to ailing economy?:

playballonk,re your comment regarding hotels being behind all this. When it all started I wrote in this column that I felt they had an iron in the fire somewhere along the line.Oh Mr Breeze these blogs are views not a reason to start world war 3,just calm down, take several deep breaths of air,oh by the way would you like the name of my accountant as well you can then see that I pay all my taxes and declare all,you see I am an honest and upright citizen not a back street dealer. And without the taxes I pay just maybe yours and others on the island might infact go up.

Written on Weekly rentals: Hotels from hell next door or angel to ailing economy?:

Okay Shark and Rob.You are trying to make it sound as though the rental properties you live next door to are rented out 365 days a year, this I find hard to believe. My house has never been rented for less than a week.In 2008 my property was rented out for a total of 18 weeks and this was my best year.As we all know there are 52 weeks in a year. Now my next door neighbour who is able to contact me easily never once did so during that time regarding any problems. But it would seem that every renter who moves in next door to you parties every night. What a dreadful life you must have living next door to a house that has parties every day of the year.I think not.Lets just start being more sensible and realistic with our arguments. Some peoples lives are on the line here.

Written on Weekly rentals: Hotels from hell next door or angel to ailing economy?:

In 2003 my wife and I decided to buy a property on Marco and to help finance the expense we decided to rent the property out.So what did we do we enabled a local builder to have a business to employ electricians, plumbers, kitchen fitters etc.We bought all of our furniture, appliances, televisions etc locally.Okay so then we rented our property out through a local agency and have a local homewatch company to keep an eye on things. When our renters come to stay they buy food at Marco,s shops they buy clothes at Marco,s shops eat at Marco,s restaurants and put money into the local economy. All this so that one day just maybe my wife and I in future years could possibly spend our retirement living here.In all those years I am not aware of any issues or complaints with regard to our renters. And feel we our responsible owners. We have a guest book at the house that all the renters write their comments in.The majority thank us for allowing the average American family to enjoy a little piece of our dream for a week or two.But now it would seem by a very small minority of people on the island that dream could be shattered.Whilst I understand the need for some kind of policing for the irresponsible owners but please do not Tar us all with the same brush. If my renters stop coming then my dream will not happen it is as simple as that, especially now when we are all fighting for our exsistance in this economic crisis.Surely instead of making it more difficult for people to visit this paradise we should feel privileged that people wish to share it with us.Remember normal people cannot afford to holiday for 30 days minimum. So please think about this one.I do not wish to be another forclosure or statistic.

Written on Short term rental ordinance discussion continues Friday:

How about the planning board try to increase the number of tourists coming to Marco so the local shops stand a chance of survival in this present economic climate, instead of trying to think of ways of putting tourists off coming here.Times are hard with no sign of a let up all.Tourists everywhere may just start to think that Marco dos,nt want or like them if the doors "freedom of choice" start slamming in their faces. Some of us are just trying to survive not like the whining idiots who started this whole episode.Think before you do something you might regret for years to come.

Written on Short-term rental ordinance advances through planning board:

What planet are you currently living on Ezeee, obviously not the same one as the rest of us.
Make money- what money exactly are you talking about? I have news for you Ezeee, the money we make out of rentals on our property doesn't cover the mortgage. It costs us a lot of money to maintain our house on Marco Island, furthermore a lot of that money goes on keeping local people in work, the rental agency who benefit from the commission, the weekly gardener, the company who do a HomeWatch service on the property ( and the renters for that matter), the pool man, the cleaning company etc. In five years our next door neighbour has only had to contact us once and that was only to let us know that there had been a problem and it had been addressed and sorted out. No problem everything sorted out without a big hulabaloo going on. Lets try and remember that it is only a handful of these properties that are causing a problem. So why should the rest of us responsible Landlords have to suffer ? Dont worry though Ezeee because the ways things are going no-one is going to be coming to Marco Island
at all soon. I'm sure thats going to make you very happy- not sure about how all your neighbours who have businesses are going to feel about that but - hey- what do you care.

Written on Short-term rental ordinance advances through planning board:

Marco Island is indeed a beautiful place, which is a very good job, because the people who live on it certainly are not, for the most part anyway. All they are interested in is themselves, not the Island that they are lucky enough to live on. In fact these people would have been very much at home in Russia 50 years ago during the cold war. Look around people of Marco Island, your beautiful little piece of real estate is already nearly on its knees, without tourists it wont last for a lot longer and you really have to wake up to the fact that without all those tourist dollars your lifestyle will be very much the worse. Why dont you stop and think about the people who are trying to run businesses on the island, aren't things tough enough without you making things worse for these people who work day and night to try and make a living in such hard times. Silly me, your not interested really are you, you are only concerned about yourselves ? Do you not understand that the vast majority of people cannot afford to go on a holiday for a whole month, even in good times, let alone during the present economic climate? Do you not comprehand how expensive it is for a family to stay in a hotel these days? Is it beyond the power of your silly petty minded little brains to realise that this year is going to be really really tough. Bear this in mind, there will be no European tourists this year, the dollar exchange rate has fallen out the bottom of the bucket for these people they cannot afford to come to the USA anymore let alone a beautiful little island which is universally known as Mark Up island. STOP BEING STUPID, dont carry on with this ridiculous minimum 30 day rental idea anymore. Do something to save your island whilst you still have the opportunity to do so, or do you really want to wait until there is no more money left in the coffers and Marco Island becomes a ghost town with boarded up shops, no restaurants, no business, run down schools, limited facilities and an end to the lifestyle you have all come to take so much for granted. The way things are, I in common with a lot of others cant wait to get away from your island because it saddens me so much to see what you are doing to it, but then again thats really exactly what you want isn't it ? No-one allowed on the island except you. Why wait any longer, put gates on the two bridges and turn yourselves into the gated community you seem to be so desperate to achieve ? The Mackle brothers would be horrified at what you are doing, which is destroying their dream.

Written on Crime, overcrowding concern neighbors of short-term rental properties on Marco:

Marco 47 since you asked,I really had no intention of sounding bitter however I also have a house on Marco that I rent out through what I believe to be a responsible Marco agency. From the comments and pictures left in my guest book it would seem the families who have stayed at my house are good solid American stock who rent anything from 1 week to 1 month never anything less. This is the only way until my retirement kicks in that I can realize the American dream and own a little piece of paradise that gives me hope for the future.Whilst I can understand the problem of nuisance renters to full time residents of Marco it would seem to me this is the minority and not the norm.I honestly believe the agencies and renters should be ultimately responsible.and should be fined accordingly. It might help if when these people rent it was brought to their attention what is acceptable and what is not whilst they are renting ie parking on the verges, over crowding of property, trash being left out etc.In my eyes the solution is no to limit rentals to a 30 day minimum stay but to lay out the ground rules before they rent and if they are not kept to then fine them not the owners who have no idea what is going on in their absence. This is why I rent through an agency. What really gets to me is the time this issue is taking to be resolved and also the power that some of the committe members seem to have on what could ultimately result in me loosing my property if I have no renters. You might say thats my own fault and ofcourse you would be correct. But it was the only way for me to proceed up the ladder. It would be nice to have this issue resolved fairly So that we could all get on with our lives.

Written on Rental committee sets occupancy, length terms for rentals:

I have just had an idea on how to control noisey guests. Why not have a Charter listing out the rules for anyone who wishes to visit Marco Island. When a hotel books out a room or a rental agency rents a property on the Island the guest have to sign the charter and agree to stick to the rules. If they break any, they could be fined. You could even have the charter written on the pages of travel brochures throughout the world so anyone booking a holiday would know where they stand. That would surely stop any problems would,nt it?

Written on Committee to recommend registration for rentals:

Lets just take a look at whats going on in America.Gas at $4+ a gallon,Property crisis, recession in full swing, the Dollar loosing value across the world to name a few.And on Marco Island you are trying to put tourists off coming. These are people who spend money that keep the shops alive, restaurants full etc. What are trying to do? Yes some kind of regulation is required but be careful. As I,ve said before there are many places called paradise in America.Could it be that the Hotels on Marco are trying to get rid of the competition that is giving this scheme so much momentum?Sounds silly but alot of attention is being given to this one and after all only 24 people turned up for the open meeting a few weeks ago.I wonder is there more to this than meets the eye.
