What a complete waste of time and money.Marco Island councilors should be ashamed.

The Sheriffs office stinks always a cheap excuse.Lets put this in perspective a horse is being rode where ever.Horses do not display aggresive behavior so we cannot think for one moment that the horse started this situation,so it must have been the uncontrolled dogs.Okay so you are a horse being attacked by two large dogs in my books enough to give you a heart attack.Who really cares what the poor horse died of IT DIED.And if it had stayed at home that day it would probably would still be alive now.The two dogs are without a doubt a menace to our society and therefore should be destroyed(I have two Huskys and I love them dearly however I would have them put down now if they displayed this kind of aggression}.If the woman can,t afford to keep the dogs she is not in full control.This story sickens me Why have any animal that you can,t control in the first place.My heart goes out to the suffering the horse must have undergone and to the owners of the poor animal.

I find this absolutely ridiculous.You know once upon a time the Americans thought that the Russians were the enemy,but they were,nt and they moved forward.On the other hand Marco Island went backwards now they are the enemy.And Mr Breeze I hope you choke on one of your bones.As usual a pointless comment.Can,t wait for March to continue our discussion regards rentals,I would like to say more but I would be stuck off.Jaguar.

In my books the council have made a good decision on this one.By not allowing the minority destroy the lives of the majority.The Esplanade was always going to be a meeting place with some sort of entertaiment and what a great place it is.I congratulate the council members who voted in favour of allowing music and welcome you to the year 2009.There is so much gloom and doom at the moment,surely we should be allowed to let our hair down now and then.Remember this is the fun place called Marco Island not a refuge for miserable old farts.Have fun in the sun or buy some ear defenders for 5 bucks.Have a nice day.

Why did I know as I read this article it would be the short term renters fault,some of you are just beyond belief.I suspose its also the renters fault that theres noise at the Esplanade.Oh and while your at it the road surfaces are wearing thin that must be the renters.Remember what,s good for the Goose is good for the Gander.Rules are rules for everyone.As for MARCUP ISLAND having some Gestapo like tendancies, this has been evident for a few years now.I,m suprised this had,nt been noticed before by more of you.

Mr B sorry for the delay in replying,but the last few days have been a little hectic.Have now moved to London and staying in a local flop house called CLARIDGES.I tell you now I am not charging enough for my place on Marco.Anyway with regard to the scared bit,I have to admit yesterday whilst watching Serena I really did have a major one, would you believe I nearly spilt strawberries and cream all down my Ralphy shirt but managed to get it in my mouth at the last moment phew a close encounter eh".Went last night to see Oliver at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane absolutely wonderful you should try it.My hosts were grateful for your concern about their accommadation whilst in Florida,but said not worry they find their property in Port Royal comfortable enough and would,nt want to impose on me,but thanks anyway.Must go now just off to see Roddick thrash Chardy.Always got time for old friends what have you been up to? Is this the start of the decline regarding tourists and people thinking of buying here. Perhaps if we encouraged them to visit instead of trying to drive them away, we could survive this economy.Remember BAD NEWS TRAVELS FAST and with all the negative news from Marco recently it was always going to take its toll on this islands businesses. Oh by the way, a new set of renters turned up next door to me on Friday, they were out on the lanai having fun last night.But you know it was all silent well before 10pm.

You really got stuck behind the door when the brains were being given out Mr Breeze. No-one buys a HOME thinking they are going to lose money. Most of us hope that yes, we might indeed, one day make a little profit out of it. a little something to leave the kids ALL OFF US invest a great deal of money turning our homes into our own little bits of heaven and the vast majority of us use our hard earned bucks to do it. That's what makes the difference between a HOUSE AND A HOME and that's why, its so very sad when people who dared to take the plunge have to give up their dream often through no fault of their own. But then again we couldn't expect a heartless soul like you who so much enjoys the misfortune of other people to understand that sentiment really could we.? Your just far too busy laughing yourself stupid at people who stand to lose a great deal more than you simply because their dream was bigger than yours. What makes you think that you are any more proud of your home than the rest of us?

This is why as responsible owners we instructed our rental agency to block out all public holidays when renting out our property.DO NOT TAR ME WITH THAT BRUSH.This situation has got to stop and Shadow, I honestly sympathise with you.But a 30 day minimum is not the answer.All it will achieve is to kill peoples dreams,not solve the problem.I wish I could give you the answer to this situation, however I can,t This is left to the people we have elected to make decisions for us that,s ALL OF US.

MsLD,what happens if the house next door to you is occupied by a noisy family,remember not all neighbours are quite,you might then have to put up with it 365days a year.And when you say constantly rented out, as I said earlier in 2008 which was a good year for my rentals,in total it amounted to 18weeks not 52.

Okay Shark and Rob.You are trying to make it sound as though the rental properties you live next door to are rented out 365 days a year,this I find hard to believe.My house has never been rented for less than a week.In 2008 my property was rented out for a total of 18 weeks and this was my best year.As we all know there are 52 weeks in a year.Now my next door neighbour who is able to contact me easily never once did so during that time regarding any problems.But it would seem that every renter who moves in next door to you parties every night.What a dreadful life you must have living next door to a house that has parties every day of the year.I think not.Lets just start being more sensible and realistic with our arguments.Some peoples lives are on the line here.

How about the planning board try to increase the number of tourists coming to Marco so the local shops stand a chance of survival in this present economic climate, instead of trying to think of ways of putting tourists off coming here.Times are hard with no sign of a let up all.Tourists everywhere may just start to think that Marco dos,nt want or like them if the doors "freedom of choice" start slamming in their faces.Some of us are just trying to survive not like the whining idiots who started this whole episode.Think before you do something you might regret for years to come.

Marco Island is indeed a beautiful place, which is a very good job, because the people who live on it certainly are not, for the most part anyway. All they are interested in is themselves, not the Island that they are lucky enough to live on. In fact these people would have been very much at home in Russia 50 years ago during the cold war. Look around people of Marco Island, your beautiful little piece of real estate is already nearly on its knees, without tourists it wont last for a lot longer and you really have to wake up to the fact that without all those tourist dollars your lifestyle will be very much the worse. Why dont you stop and think about the people who are trying to run businesses on the island, aren't things tough enough without you making things worse for these people who work day and night to try and make a living in such hard times. Silly me, your not interested really are you, you are only concerned about yourselves ? Do you not understand that the vast majority of people cannot afford to go on a holiday for a whole month, even in good times, let alone during the present economic climate? Do you not comprehand how expensive it is for a family to stay in a hotel these days? Is it beyond the power of your silly petty minded little brains to realise that this year is going to be really really tough. Bear this in mind, there will be no European tourists this year, the dollar exchange rate has fallen out the bottom of the bucket for these people they cannot afford to come to the USA anymore let alone a beautiful little island which is universally known as Mark Up island. STOP BEING STUPID, dont carry on with this ridiculous minimum 30 day rental idea anymore. Do something to save your island whilst you still have the opportunity to do so, or do you really want to wait until there is no more money left in the coffers and Marco Island becomes a ghost town with boarded up shops, no restaurants, no business, run down schools, limited facilities and an end to the lifestyle you have all come to take so much for granted. The way things are, I in common with a lot of others cant wait to get away from your island because it saddens me so much to see what you are doing to it, but then again thats really exactly what you want isn't it ? No-one allowed on the island except you. Why wait any longer, put gates on the two bridges and turn yourselves into the gated community you seem to be so desperate to achieve ? The Mackle brothers would be horrified at what you are doing, which is destroying their dream.

Marco 47 since you asked,I really had no intention of sounding bitter however I also have a house on Marco that I rent out through what I believe to be a responsible Marco agency.From the comments and pictures left in my guest book it would seem the families who have stayed at my house are good solid American stock who rent anything from 1 week to 1 month never anything less.This is the only way until my retirement kicks in that I can realize the American dream and own a little piece of paradise that gives me hope for the future.Whilst I can understand the problem of nuisance renters to full time residents of Marco it would seem to me this is the minority and not the norm.I honestly believe the agencies and renters should be ultimately responsible.and should be fined accordingly.It might help if when these people rent it was brought to their attention what is acceptable and what is not whilst they are renting ie parking on the verges, over crowding of property,trash being left out etc.In my eyes the solution is no to limit rentals to a 30 day minimum stay but to lay out the ground rules before they rent and if they are not kept to then fine them not the owners who have no idea what is going on in their absence.This is why I rent through an agency.What really gets to me is the time this issue is taking to be resolved and also the power that some of the committe members seem to have on what could ultimately result in me loosing my property if I have no renters.You might say thats my own fault and ofcourse you would be correct.But it was the only way for me to proceed up the ladder.It would be nice to have this issue resolved fairly So that we could all get on with our lives.

Instead of all this nastiness do you not think that perhaps we might have a little respect for the poor dead lady and for the feelings of her family. Maybe the police could have been a little more tactful but you guys are just making a bad situation worse. Come on- be nice for a change.

We love dining at Arturo,s when on the island, it really is everything one could wish for in an Italian restaurant.Look forward to the next trip out to Marco so we can eat at this wonderful place again.You all work so hard and deserve success.Regards to you all.

Lets just take a look at whats going on in America.Gas at $4+ a gallon,Property crisis,recession in full swing,the Dollar loosing value across the world to name a few.And on Marco Island you are trying to put tourists off coming.These are people who spend money that keep the shops alive,restaurants full etc.What are trying to do? Yes some kind of regulation is required but be careful.As I,ve said before there are many places called paradise in America.Could it be that the Hotels on Marco are trying to get rid of the competition that is giving this scheme so much momentum?Sounds silly but alot of attention is being given to this one and after all only 24 people turned up for the open meeting a few weeks ago.I wonder is there more to this than meets the eye.
