You folks can't even let up when he is talking to another group. Everything he said IS true, you just can't comprehend it. The Jolley bridge does NOT have a useful life of 40 years, plus four laning would make this a much nicer place to get on and off of. Tax rates have gone down. Just because property values have gone up, your taxes have gone up, but now the same people complain that their values are falling. You can't have it both ways.
Property values are falling not because of anythng the city did, but because of speculators and the overall economy. Did not any of you folks notice that we are in the worst credit crisis in memory and 40% of the homes in LAS VEGAS are in foreclosure. There is no data at all to show "people moving away in record numbers" however I would be very happy if the three above would move away.

I love that people twist stuff to fit their opinions. The reason Collier Blvd took longer to construct is that the Restaurant Association worked with the city to get construction stopped during season. That is what happened.
Marco was always supposed to be a mix of resort, residential and transient/snowbirds. That is the REAL Mackle vision. Why the h..l do you think they built a hotel, had the beach front zoned RT (Residential TOURIST) and had a PUD approved for what is now Cape Marco that included several hundred additonal hotel rooms.
Go up to any visitor in any restaurant or shop on Marco and ask them if they think Marco is a resort. 99.9% of them will look at you as if you were nuts and say "Of Course."
The density comment is so ridiculous that it does not deserve a response.

Hear, hear for Ingoslee. A dog park would be great. It had been suggested for the Leigh Plummer park on Barfield. To me, that would be a great location.

The most interesting thing about this string is the complete lack of cooperation by the losers. The vote was a clear mandate for a Marco Island that truly reflects the Mackles vision, as it would be today with the changes in the world. Marco was originally supposed to be a middle class resort and residential community. The Mackles did not anticipate when they began the development that it would be the last, major, dredge and fill community in the state of Florida. In the 1960's when they began, dredge and fill communities were the way to go. In the 1980's the environmental movement took over, and the Corps stopped Marco and essentially all other communities of its type. Marco would have had 50% MORE residential lots than it has today if the Mackles REAL vision had been accomplished. The limitation of waterfront development changed the economics of Marco and all other waterfront communities. Waterfront became scarce. That and the aging baby boomer population took this area from the 1200 square foot house to the 5000 square foot McMansion. The City Council had nothing to do with that, just like it has nothing to do with the current slump, it is basic economics.
It is time to move and and continue to progress. Frank III loves the way Marco looks today. The new Collier Blvd is beautiful and fits our type of community. The other infrastructure changes, bike paths, etc. are all for the good. The developers did not win, because they are not a part of our equation, the people of Marco Island won.

I thought we lost Foster's garbage when he moved. Why doesn't he make peoples' lives miserable in North Carolina and leave us alone? We would all be better off if he had never been here, and would be much better off if he would stay away.

OK, once more lies and more lies from the usual suspects, Ed Foster and Smokey Joe. The Chamber has not taken a position on the candidates and cannot. If you don't know what you are talking about, just stop talking.
Neylon failed to answer where the water was going to come from for the reuse system and always fails to note that it costs a lot of money to lay all that new pipe to all the houses. Plus, it would involve tearing up ALL of the neighborhoods. FWS wanted to do it years ago, but the H2O is not there.
The condos along Collier had a major assessment for their reuse lines that they took seven years to pay off. We do not have adequate water to even cover the current reuse customers (Collier Blvd condos, Island Country Club, Hideaway).
I guess you all would prefer Mr. Neylon who is in the Massachusetts contractors Hall of Shame, or the incredibly arrogant and ill informed Mr. Hall.

I think it is incredibly inappropriate for Councilor Kiester to get involved in this, but then he is the master of inappropriate. Public records laws - those are for the other people. Listening to both sides - not Chuck. He only listens to those he agrees with. This alleged debate was a put up job by the most negative and divisive person on the Island, Mario Sanchez. It deserved to get precisely the attention and turnout it got.

Once again, Mr. Hall distinguishes himself with distortions and a negative attitude toward anything that makes the Island a better place to live. Probably an easy position to take for someone who has only been here a very short period of time and has no knowledge of or respect for the history of the Island. Instead of praising how beautiful Collier Blvd now looks, he makes it sound like something bad. The ultimate falsehood is that sewers will somehow permit new growth. That is complete balderdash. The commercial and multi-family is already on sewer, so nothing new there. The residential areas are platted, just as they were in 1965, except that the Island is 50% smaller than Deltona planned due to the Corps of Engineers shutdown of the rest of the Island. The Council and Planning Board have set into motion a 4% REDUCTION in density from what is already approved. Sewers will only make the Island a better place to live, that is it. What is his plan for the future of the Island? Does he have one? NO!

Congratulations to Bill and the City of Naples. He will do a great job for them and they are lucky to get him. It is too bad that he was essentially driven out by the dark side. The naysayers and CAVE people have gotten their way and Marco is poorer for that. The people in Naples have always thought that we on Marco were out of control jerks for the way people act at City Council meetings. Bill will be shocked that people actually act with dignity and decorum at Naples City Council meetings and don't cheer and boo and call each other names.
It would be nice if Marco could be the same way, but the nattering nabobs of negativity have taken over the arena of public discourse.

Hourigan needs to get a life, even though he/she/it claims to have one. Tara deserves all the support from all of us who enjoyed her old location. Richie would be proud of her. It will be a great location and a great addition to the Esplanade. Between Tara being there and the new, improved "Bayview" and the Bar, Marco finally has a waterfront gathering place for all of us. I look forward to whiling away many hours there with friends of common interests.
