Mr. Waldack's candidacy will be a major embarasement for the existing government. I expect that he won't get 500 votes which will expose the voter's total rejection of this council and its style of government. The people need a vehicle to express their rejection of this council. Mr. Waldack and Mr. Issler are the men to give them that. Their falure at the polls will prove that the 2,000 voters that signed the recall petition are not simply a few malcontents. We need Mr. Waldack and Mr. Issler to eliminate any doubt that there isn't any support for this government.
Vote for Wayne Waldack. FOUR MORE YEARS!!! of the same government. If you liked Minozzi, you are going to love Wayne.
Great news!! The city can now let Lisa Douglas go; they have a new propagandist, Leslie Williams, that they don't even have to pay for. We can save $70,000 and use if for more testing.
Where is the fair and balanced journalism? If you go to the LTE at the Sun Times you will find a number of well informed comments by the citizens. Why aren't their viewpoints being expressed?
It appears that Leslie doesn't even need to use the phone. She just goes to City Hall and gets their press releases. How many phone call did Leslie make to write this article.
We don't need another Billy Bruce; we need another Liam Dillan or Ed Bania.
Sorry, Make that the Naples Daily News. They have the article on the beach closing. We also have a very leaky central sewer system. This is the issue we should be addressing. We need to fix our 30+year old system that is leaking before we add 6,500 more homes that are on septic tanks that aren't polluting at all.
Sorry, Make that the Naples Daily News. They have the article on the beach closing. We also have a very leaky central sewer system. This is the issue we should be addressing.
Ed you might want to check today's Eagle. The beach on Sanibel is closed due to human waste. It may be from the sewer system. Sanibel doesn't have septic systems.
If you read his blogs, Wayne hasn't had a job since 1995 when he retired to take care of his mother. He had numerous careers with little success, if any, at any of them. He is a Minozzi clone. Another non achiever looking for something to do. I am sure he is a nice guy and is well liked at the Knights of Columbus and the Men's club but the city needs and can do much better. If a person doesn't have a track record of success, we can't take the chance that he has what it takes to run the city.
Ed Issler, I called the FDEP as you suggested. They don't have any idea of what you are talking about. They don't have any plans to legislate the replacement of septic tanks. What number did you call? Please give us a number to prove that you are not perpetrating another fear mongering hoax. What do you think your reputation is on the island? What do you think people think when they see you?
Again we see another misrepresentation from Mr. Issler. Show us one documented source that supports your contention. Key West is built on coral, not on sand. The truth is that governments are moving away from central sewer systems across the country. Central sewers are the largest contributor to beach closings in the country accounting for over 25,000 last year alone. Is this the kind of distortion that we can expect from you and Wally if you are elected? Marco Island deserves better.
Walduck and Issler have a long paper trail of documented misrepresentations. It will be great to finally see them held accountable in the debates. And this is the city's dream team? No wonder Moss is out looking for a new job.
The contractor has the obligation to take care of any hazzardous conditions he encounters. It is his problem, not ours. It now appears we will spend thousands of dollars treating the water generated by his activities and run the risk of damaging out waste water treatment plant.
Let the contractor provide the filters to eliminate this problem.
Is Moss applying for a job with Naples or Quality?
Rumor has it that the city is fielding Walduck and Issler as their dream team. Let's see, Issler misinforms and Walduck changes the subject when he is caught. Perfect! This is exactly how this city operates. If you want more of the same, vote for them.
Ed, the following is taken from today's NDN.
"Under the new pay scale, Moss makes $161,032 a year. In addition to his base salary, Moss receives $500 car allowance and a fringe benefit allowance that is equal to 38 percent of his salary.
Moss makes more than $6,000 more a year than Lee."
Do you purposely mislead and distort or are you just not very smart?
It is obvious the abuse of the voters by Mr. Moss and a complicit council is about to end. Mr. Moss is joining Chief Rienke in an attempt to abandon the ship before it sinks. The Naples job pays $10,000 a year LESS than his current job.
It is clear that Mr. Moss wouldn't survive the POP's petition which is why they wouldn't let us vote on it. All of the candidates for council recognize that Mr. Moss is at best a devisive person and must be replaced for the city to heal and move on.
It would be interesting to know how many other positions he has applied for.
Where is our council? How many things have to get screwed up before they show up? Every day there is a new revelation of ineptitude by the city manager. This city is devoid of leadership. We are in crisis and all they are concerned about is pushing through the STRP at any cost before they lose power. What a legacy.
It is really sad that we have killed one person and sent three people to the hospital in critical condition with this doomed project so far.
Why wasn't the city employee qualified enough to know that the first rule in working with this kind of situation is to call for and wait for help to arrive? Why wasn't there a fresh air tube in the man hole? Don't these people have any kind of basic training or are we getting them from Home Depot every morning?
Dorothy was as good as they come and she gave freely of her time and love to the community. I am sure there is a special place in heaven for her. When is the service?
Great article. Thanks
I believe that there were 2300 responses to the MICA survey and 60%=/- gave the council and the city manager a less than favorable rating. I wonder why they haven't published these number?
If you poor folks in the Lamplighter/Sheffield district think that Popoff is going to break ranks and save you, you are in for a big disappointment. Make no mistake, Popoff is Tucker's boy. You guys are screwed! There will be snowplows on the Jolly Bridge before Popoff breaks with Tucker. Show up at the meeting. Express your outrage! Then watch while Minozzi, Tucker, Popoff and Trotter give you the finger!
There will be a new council and Popoff will be odd boy out. The STRP will be stopped but it will be too late to save you'all. I really am sorry.
I guess Mr. Issler never saw all of those people running around in hazmat suits. Somebody thought the island was contaminated.
We have a police chief who can't find the Jolly Bridge or who placed the asbestos on the Glon property. We have a code enforcement officer who can't count over 100. What a team!
The good chief did take a page out of the sewage spill reporting book which is if you don't report them, they didn't happen. His department is no longer writing up incidents. If don't believe me ask your local cop.
That way Rienke can claim crime is down and the Moss can claim they don't have any sewer spills. Brilliant! Mossism at its finest!
I applaud councilwoman DiSciullo and the other councilmen for their courage in speaking out against the abuses that are being inflicted on the citizens by the four controlling councilmen and the city manager. I suggest that Mr. Popoff take a serious look at the course the ship he is riding on, it is s headed straight to the rocks. The other passengers don’t care. They are gone in 8 months anyway. I am sure they have prepared for their future. The question is have you?
Way to go Russ. There is cause for optimism! Let the silent majority speak!! It is time to give all of Moss's supporters a chance to validate the cabal's representations the cabal represents the will of the voters. Let their supporters be heard! I am sure there will be at least 6 people that will be shocked at what they say.
By the way, I wonder of the yet to be released results of the MITA survey showing a 2/3 disapproval rating for the council and the city manager will give us a clue as to what the vote will be?
O, I forgot, MITA is run by that bunch of malcontents, how could you trust their survey?
Patton1 signed up Feb 10, 2007. He spins the same insults that Geezer does and seems to have taken over when Beau, sailalong and Islandvisitor phased out. If you took Isler and Beauford off the blogs with their alaises you would have a much more inteligent debate. Good guess.
The Eagle must be hard up for news. Were is the support for the title of the column? Why are the bridge's days numbered? Nice historical prospective but not news. One of the major users of the bridge are the construction people. Once they are gone it will be more than adequate. It's hard to believe we are squandering 1/2 million to decide if the voters want a toll bridge.
I am optomistic that Marco Island will recover but it will not be until the Island is cleaned up. When we sold our home up north, our RE person told us that curb appeal is essential and we sure don't have it here. We recently had some friends that visited us several years ago come down. They are looking for a retirement home. They couldn't believe what a mess the island has become. They only stayed one night before heading for greener pastures. We were actually embarassed when they pointed out how awful the island looks.
This is a feel good article that will be reproduced and handed out to the tourists. Let's hope they don't read the Meritage article which is a much more accurate statement of the realities.
Ed Foster I am afraid you are right. The whole thing is a shot at extending their terms to November but if that fails they will confuse the issue enough to keep it in March. Kiester made the motion to hold it in January but nobody, including Popoff, Mr. automatic second for the cabal, would second it. It died. Nobody on this council other than Kiester and hopefully Terri and Ted will support a January election. Popoff won't be at the August meeting so any vote for January election will be a 3/3 tie at best. They will get their March election which will cost the city millions in contracts they will ram through. The new council will cancel them but it will be expensive.
I am sure that they will try and slip it through. What has Moss got to lose? The citizens will have to file another referrendum to force it to a vote. They will use their new high priced attorneys from Miami to throw the referrendum out. The citizens will have to go to court. What else is new. Next they will vote to extend the terms to 10 years. They have no shame! They have no conscience! We need to start shunning them in public. A bunch of loosers that never amounted to anything that are drunk with their own power and self importance. What further proof do we need?
Nice spin. Your article is the kind of thing realators need to show prospective buyers to get them to buy. It has to be a tough sell. "Mr. and Mrs. Jones I know you think that you should spend 2 million dollars on a home in a neighborhood you are proud of. But that is where you are wrong. Your home will be such a dramatic contrast from the dumpy community that Marco Island has become it will really stand out! If the visitors comment about the war zone they have to drive through, just tell them that it will only be that way for another 6 to 10 years although we may have to do it all over again due to the shoddy construction that is occurring. If they don't believe that, have them call Mr. Moss.
Moss writes his own 22 page evaluation, the puppet council aproves it despite Kiester's protest, and Moss sends it on to the club. This is about as meaningful as a Doctrate in Divinity from a mail in sham school. How could any normal person write 22 pahes of glowing praise about himself?
I think Terri's heart is in the right place, she is just way over her head in this position. I think the cabal realized that they didn't have to prep her and that they could confuse her enough that she would vote for it as she did. Terri's dumb statement that I voted for it so I could vote agains it just doesn't fly.
The fact that she is in a fog up there is more than obvious with her "How many lift stations do we get for $147,000? That would be one, Terri, they are $147,00 each and we are gitting 9 of them. "Oh, so that would be $900,000." No Terri, that would 1.32 million. "Oh" I guess that explains why she never took the CPA exam. If she were my bookkeeper, I would be checking the numbers.
Geezer/RB/sailingby/islandvisitor/ et al has been bragging that Moss was going to do this for at least three weeks. Nobody believed him. He was practically wetting his pants in glee with his "I told you so" gyrations when this happened.
This is just more of the same minipulation of the council out of the sunshine by Moss that has been gong on for years. This tyrant has to go. It is clear that our self important council can't control him. It is time for the citizens to take charge. Go POPS
Let's put Marco Man at the entrance of the new waste transfer station.
The following quotes from Councilman Popoff are taken from the EARN Marco website. Judge for yourself if he misled the voters.
Councilman Popoff says he is constantly being MISQUOTEDHere are some of those misquotes.
Then - - - "I firmly feel that the current process must be stopped until we make sure we have the best system (whatever that system may be...I am open-minded) for the Island .”
Now - - - "I am, and always have been, in favor of completing the STRP; for the record, I never said I would be in favor of limiting the STRP!”
Then - - - “We must stop the current process until the finances are worked out and it is equal for all concerned."
Now - - - “We do not need to stop the STRP to investigate/approve a more equitable way to pay for it."
Then - - - “If I am elected I do promise that I will, with an open mind, look at all alternatives.”
To Reiterate - - - "I am, and always have been, in favor of completing the STRP; for the record, I never said I would be in favor of limiting the STRP!” - - - “We do not need to stop the STRP to investigate/approve a more equitable way to pay for it."
INCONSISTANCY, PREVARICATION, OR MISQUOTED?WHICH WAS THE MISQUOTE, THEN - - - OR NOW?
Councilman Popoff Campaign Promises
Then - - - "I will create a citizen panel consisting of individuals with different viewpoints in hopes of building a consensus on whether or not we should sewer the entire Island. This panel will objectively look at all possibilities and will report its ongoing findings to the city council. This panel may offer irrefutable proof that septics are better than sewers in which case the council would have to listen.”
Now - - - Although Councilor Popoff did make a half hearted attempt to place a motion on the floor to organize such a panel, as soon as it was opposed he withdrew it, never to be seen again. Councilor Keister has been relentless in his efforts to keep his campaign promises. Maybe Councilor Popoff just isn’t as committed to keeping his campaign promises.
Something said during a campaign is a promise, a statement upon which voters rely to determine whether or not they should vote for a candidate. To abandon those promises after being elected is unethical and dishonest. Councilor Popoff in an effort to avoid those labels continues to say, “I’V BEEN MISQUOTED”
Beaufort/Geezer and all your other names, Hall didn't lie about anything. John Glen wrote a letter to the council. Hall helped him with it. He didn't forge Glen's signature. Glen doesn't have any problem. What's your problem? Rech did not recant any of the positions that Hall said he took. He did not back away from the statement that the septic tanks are working fine on Marco Island and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future with proper maintenance. You are the hypocritical liar on this blog as the above postings prove. It is a sad commentary for the other side that you are the best spokesman they can come up with. I wonder what they will think of you now your e-mail to Tarik is on display? Have you no shame? If you had any decency you would crawl into a hole and disappear.
Chase100 I disagree. Hall has been on the front lines fighting for the people for over a year. Who cares that he only moved here in 2005? Where are all the long term residents that are standing up for the citizens? The voters of Marco have been abused for so long it probably takes someone with a fresh set of eys to see how bad this government really is.Most of the long term residents have given up. We needed fresh blood. Thank you Hall for standing up for us.
When, and if, Reinke stops covering up QE's contamination of the Glon property, he will take the first step to proving he is not corrupt. Every idiot on the island knows GE did it. Even Reinke is not that stupid. That leaves only two conclusions.
With that legacy he will never get another job anywhere. Why isn't moss hiring a replacement? Reinke is either corrupt or incompetent. It is clear he has no interest in working on Marco. Either moss shares the same motivations as reinke or he is equally as stupid. Could it be that he and moss are in the same bed with QE?
Russ, well said as usual.
The 5 idiots have decreed that the ship has sailed and they don't care it is sailing right into a hurricane. They are going to slam their agenda down our throats just to prove they can do it. We don't want it; we don't need it; it is destroying the quality of life on this island; the little people can't afford it; they know it and they just don't give a blasted. They are small people enjoying the most power they ever have had or will have in their lives and they are going to use every once of it while they have it regardless of the consequences to the island.
Terri has been outed. She has no answers.
Thank you Bill McMillen for saving us from our council.
Terri loves to talk about how she talks to her voters and represents them. I guess the 1,000 plus citizens that sent e-mails to Saunders and the Governor aren’t part of her voters on HER island. I guess the 4 to 1 ratio of citizens against the exemption requested by our council aren’t her voters either. The other four councilmen don’t even offer a pretext that they listen to us. Terri does us a greater disservice by representing she represents the people’s will when she is only pursuing her own agenda.
All of these councilmen and women are long time homesteaded residents with modest homes. Collectively they probably don’t pay taxes on more than 1.5 million in assess value. Small wonder they don’t care what the taxes are in their unquenchable quest for more money, more projects and more construction. They aren’t carrying the water. It is the non homesteaded residents. How much of their money can this council spend before they lose power?
wwaldak, your right. Everybody agrees with you except the voters. That's why they won't let an election happen. Is that democarcy?
The current MICA survery will serve as an interesting forecast as to where this island is headed if Bev Trotter allows the results to become public. If they support the current council I am sure you will see them in the Eagle. If not, we will never hear about them.
I don't think Moss thinks his job is in danger. At the end of the day Monty and Aceri will rally Patterson, Stef and Boyce or a couple of other status quo candidates. QE and the resorts will realize how much they have to lose if their Santa Claus loses his job and they will jump in with big bucks to get a status quo council elected that will support Moss. They will have a hard time supporting and justifying what this current council has done. The question is will big money swing the average voter. I think the average voter on Marco is smarter than they give him credit. If you talk to ten voters on Marco, nine of them want the bums gone. Time will tell.
Unfortunately wwaldack you got your facts wrong. It was the councilmen, using the city's money who took what was designed to be a matter for the voters to deciced to court because they knew they would lose at the ballot box. Do the math. It only took 2600 votes to win in the last election. They had 2,000 votes against them just by the people that signed the petitions. The voters made a statement. Rather than listen to it, they took the matter to Tucker's buddy so they could countinue with their agenda. There is no doubt they will lose at the next election. The question is how badly will they destroy the island before we can get rid of them. At least it appears we won't be stuck with the Minozzi memorial bridge.
We had a bookkeeper that never passed the CPA exam followed by a financial planner that never passed the Certified Financial Planner Exam chairing the council on Marco Island. By Mr. Minozzi own words they have driven the island to the brink of bankruptcy which is why we can't have tax reform. It it any wonder these same geniuses would spend $30,000 to enable four councilpersons to attend three three hour meetings? That's $10,000 per meeting. This lack of fiscal irresponsibility and concrn over the city's financial well being is symtomatic of their administration. Shame on them!
wwaldack, I understand 2,000 voters disagree with you. They think that voting for an inequitible STRP and allowing a major asbestos contaimination to occur on the island while allowing a cover up to go unchecked is not good for the people. If he cared what the people wanted he would have allowed the recall instead of getting Tucker's buddy to stop it. Pushing through as much STRP before he loses power is grossly financially irresponsible in a city that is on the verge of going broke. What else would one expect from a self proclaimed financial advisor that hasn't passed the Certified Financial Planner exam. He is egotistical and arrogant and the negative reprecussions of his self serving leadership will be felt for a long time to come.
Thank you Joe!!! It is encouraging to see someone step forward and accept the challange of recapturing our city and restoring a representative government that we all can trust.
It is interesting that the article re; Chief Reinke addressing the school children appears at the same time as his transgressions are all over the paper. The police chief is a roll model for the community including the children he addressed. He has tarnished that image.
Likewise, the city manager has amplified the injustice to Chief Reinke's former wife by supporting the Chiefs version of events, effectively calling her a liar. Everybody on Marco knew of the Chief dalliances at the time they were happening and we all know she is telling the truth.
Where is the morality and integrity in our leadership? Where are our seven blind mice that cannot seem to rise against any transgression, no matter how blatant?
The hope for Marco is that the citizenry will rise up against this sick government and restore honor and representative democracy at the next election.
I would think this decision would have to be made at a council meeting. I can't believe the council will stand behind the city manager's position on this matter. It works out to three meetings at $10,000 each if we hold a special election. We have an accountant, a financial planner, a banking executive and a mortgage broker on the council. Despite the many negative things we have heard, I have to believe this council isn't that selfish and irresponsible.
