I was there and saw all the police and fire people working hard to clear the fire. Great job.
Let's keep one of the locals for CHIEF!
Landlords have to be held accountable for their tenants. Some only care about collecting the rent at the end of the month. This practice has to stop. Rent out to responsible people.
LCEC does do a great job here. Power outages are taken care of within a very resonable time. I have no complaints.
So the STATE fails to charge and the cops are the ones to blame. I don't get it. Can someone explain this to me.
Good job Padron! Keep it up. Miss seeing you guys on the island.
I hope we get the right guy. That's all I have to say about that.
This officer is a good guy. Hopefully the state will drop charges like they do with real criminals.
hourigan-Tell me where island Dunkin is and I will treat you to Tara's steakhouse you dummy.
HOURIGAN,YOU NEED TO GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER. THERE IS NO DUNKIN ON THE ISLAND YOU DUMMY!
I met Mr Thompson for just a few minutes and the first impression was good. I think the right choice was made. I wish him well!
Hooray for DIFFENDOOFER! Give the teachers more money. They deserve it. 5% across the board.
TAKE THE LIGHTS DOWN NOW!!!!!!
Bring Bill Moss Back. We need him. Bill is the "MAN".
The Police Foundation is an awesome organization. I am sure that the Police Officers of this community appreciate all they do for them. There are too many to name, but guys like Keith, Bernardo, Debra and others are amazing.
I have to admit, this was pretty good. I was there. We need more of this in our community.
Best of luck to you Roger. I wish you well. Loyalty goes a long way. Right choice by Bill Moss.
Terri: I have had the pleasure of speaking with you one on one many times and never related to city business. You are truly a caring and nice person. Good luck in whatever direction you decide to go.
Don't worry, be happy!!!!! Wa are safe on Marco.
Not a blasted thing......
These guys from out of town will now get the message that you can't come to Marco and mess with our community. We have a nice, quiet town and want to keep it this way. Go Marco Cops!!!!
Ball, It looks like you are putting some blame on the PD. I think the PD did all it could by making an arrest. The PD makes arrests and the State decides on prosecution. That's the bottom line.
In response to both joey and strike3:It is really sad to see the ignorance of some as to the reality of the teaching profession. Please allow me to educate you a bit on two issues that the public does not seem to have the correct facts about- daily duties and time off.First, teacher hours are not as they seem. The 7:30-3:00 hours are simply the time they spend with your children. During this time teachers are expected to counsel and listen to the children who may need someone to speak to or a hug of reinforcement or an encouraging word when their family is breaking up or a parent is very ill or in trouble with the law (it happens all the time- yes even in paradise), or maybe because their parents are just too busy themselves. During the day teachers must also complete lesson plans, do research for best skills to individualize instruction for each child, grade papers and input grades, have meetings with parents of children with special needs, make calls to parents, order materials, make sure the classroom and bulletin boards are updated and appealing, have numerous school related meetings scheduled by adminstration, and much more. All this expected to be accomplished during a 50 minute "planning" time. This is why teachers take work home at night, go in to school during the weekend and on those holidays and days off that many of you speak of. This is also why teachers find the need to come in before their scheduled time or leave late in order to speak to parents about the needs of their child or offer special one one help to a child whose parent can not afford tutoring (it is a misconception that all parents are wealthy). Oh yes, and the summers. Well, this is usually when many teachers have to take additional classes or take on summer jobs to make ends meet. Bottom line, no one knows what a teacher's job encompasses or how much time it involves unless they are a teacher or a relative of one. They give 100+% because they love "your" children and want the best for them. None of them take the job to get rich but do expect to be appreciated and paid enough to live and support their own familes.
Instead of disolving the police and fire departments, why doesn't joeywalnuts just move!
Bring on the TOLL. Annual discounted price for Marco Islanders. It has to be paid somehow.
Was I right? Moss is a bright guy and I knew he was a good candidate. I wish him well in Naples. Now the next step is to get one of the other candidates on Marco. The one from Chatham or the female will do.
I think that Moss came across well. He did real good in the interview. Good luck to him!
Will it be Hinchey or Moss? It's gonna be close.
After listening to the interviews I can tell you that the new manager will be William Hinchey or Bill Moss. May the best man win!
How in the world can anyone even think of eliminating the police department. The type of service provided to the citizens of Marco is not practiced any other place.
Why are there sooooooo many cop haters on this island? These Marco cops go above and beyond to address the issues of the people of this community. I say keep them and pay them more!
Another great job by the Marco Island Police Department. Good thinking by the officer who came up with the plan to get him back on the island.
If you make them out of rubber and very flexible, I will consider getting one. The special price of $450.00 is a little stiff.
The portion on certain dishes is not the best. They need to give a little more. The Sea Bass is great however, you can eat it in 5 bites or less.
Has anyone heard of leave time, vacation time, personal time, etc. That is what the man takes when he goes to job interviews. When the chief is gone there is a capt. and several lieutenants along with plenty of officers still watching over the dept. Anything to batch the PD. Give the man a break.
The more security the BETTER. In this day and age it's a must.
Good job Mr. Lazo! Proud to be a Cuban/American.
Is there anyone on this island that likes our police department? I have never seen a community that hates their police department more than this one. In most communities only the criminals dislike the police. What a shame.
I think the building looks great! That Dave Baer guy has done a great job overlooking the building process.
You people who hate the cops so badddddddd should just move from the Island.
Tige will make a great coach. This guy is super dedicated. Great choice Lely.
Now we MUST give other city employees a similar raise. The Police Department is going to start contract negotiations soon. Let's not forget them.
THE NEVER ENDING STORY JUST GOES ON AND ON.
Why don't we just seat back and relax. Let the chief make a choice. I think the man is entitled to a change. He continues to handle business as usual. Why is everyone so concerned? Life goes on.
Yes they should get a pay increase. But I support both fire and police. Give our men in blue a well deserved pay increase too!
Now that we've given our fire department a raise be prepared for the next fair thing to do - parity to the police department. That means a 20% raise for them too.
Why get rid of the Police Department? Just get rid of Tucker.
Let's give the fireman more money but let's not forget the policeman. These are the two most ensential agencies in the island.
Reinke has and continues to do a good job. Just because the man is looking for work elsewhere, doesn't mean a blasted thing! This guy is all about making this place the best place to live. In fact, sometimes he goes further than beyond the call of duty. It's time we mind our own business.
