The Marriott used to have a miniature golf course on it's property. Anyone could play it - not just guests. Maybe it would be a good idea for them to build a new one on their property!

I know. Do you think the writer mixed up the square footage? What about a normal size home between 1900 and 9000 sq. ft.?
in response to chicky: I have to admit, Marco really has no good restaurants here. Have not been able to find a good steak yet. Give us an Outback or Longhorn.

Porky's on Bald Eagle Drive in Marco has the best Prime Rib around at a great price. You should try it. We've been comparing it for years to other restaurants and haven't found a good match yet.
I wouldn't re-elect any of the commissioners who tried to push the Jackson Labs deal down our throats!

Last week the police chased somebody breaking into cars down to our street. They caught him at our neighbors house around 11 p.m.. They were outside with him until 1 am. I wonder why that didn't make the "Police Beat" news? I looked and never saw anything. I had to find out from my neighbors two days later what it was all about. I park my car outside. He could of broken into my car! Thanks for letting the public know!
in response to rwhite: Unbelievable. Should we not be surprised? They comprise less than 2% of the population and yet want everything for their own interests in lieu of existing traditions and overwhelming majorities. Disgusting, yuck, puke.

Let's just put it in the budget for new ones next year that say "Happy Holiday" or "Happy Holiday Island Style". Then no one can complain about it!
We go there once a week. My husband is from New York and very picky about food. He was in the deli business since he was 21 years old but now does car accessories and has a lunch truck business. Besides the pizza being the best on Marco and in Naples, the stromboli is to die for. Their antipasto salad is delicious for those watching their weight! The year-round folks on Marco know where to go for good pizza and it's the Italian Deli on Collier Blvd. just south of Joey's Pizza!
in response to ajm3s: Now this is a great showdown. Keep on your toes. The only thing that does not make sense to me is that if Anthrex is providing high paying jobs it should not have a problem attracting 50 machinists jobs. Did I lose something in the translation? But I do not want to diminish the fact that Jackson Labs without a business plan has all the backing of Collier County but Anthrex with a record of performance is an orphan. Keep your eyes wide open, because everyone is looking for incentives and the county is choosing who is the winner. I vote for Anthrex just because it has a business plan with a record of performance. The Jackson Lab deal looks like a land deal with the county providing the grease to quiet squeaky land owners. Citizens must be vocal and loud to stop this madness.

Arthrex would like to expand more locally but the Barron Collier Family is even keeping them from buying a lot for sale next to Arthrex's Manufacturing building. Arthrex needs to build a parking garage because they have no more room for parking to hire more employees! Arthrex offered them their asking price and they said no. Talk about dirty politics! I'm not surprised Arthrex is mad.
What great kids and such a good idea! I wish I had known. I would of stopped by to have my car washed. Anything to help the Humane Society!
Jackson Labs is a not-for-profit research facility that breeds and sells genetically altered mice for basic science research. Selling mice for experimentation is their primary source of revenue and they are dependent on supplemental funding from public and private sources to meet annual expenses.
Jackson reduced their employment last year by laying off 50 employees due to budget cuts required by reduced sales of lab mice.
Jackson is not considered the premier genetics research facility in the genetics industry. Jackson labs is known for breeding and selling genetically altered mice for labexperimentation. They also have much larger competitors that produce lab mice such as Charles River labs International.
Why Collier County? The Barron Collier Company and the EDC took unilateral initiatives to invite Jackson Labs to expand to Ave Maria. The offer of free land in Ave Maria and potential state and local taxpayer funding created Jackson Labs interest in pursuing the project. Jackson had no long term strategy or business plan to move to Florida. They simply have been enticed by a lucrative economic incentive proposed by BCC and the EDC.
On a human basis, private donation to NCH will provide greater heathcare benefits to the community than to JL basic research. When genetics related technology is proven safe and effective by the FDA after a decade of clinical validation trials and becomes commercially available, NCH will have sufficient funds to purchase the technology to the benefit of everyone in the community.
Jackson Labs continues to control the message to tax payers of Collier County and has failed to produce a promised business plan to the Productivity Committee and the public that charts their strategy for a ROI and economic stimulus to the community in return for $130 Million dollars of local tax payer funding and $120 required in private donations from our residents. How far would JL get if they were seeking funding from traditional venture capital funding sources on Wall Street without a business plan or reasonable evidence of commercial success and ROI? Why should our Collier County tax payers accept anything less?
A previous Naples Daily News on-line article disclosed the intent of our local government to charge a 5.8% electric utility bill increase as of July 1 to finance the funding for Jackson Labs to come here. I oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to fund an out of state genetics research company with limited prospects of an economic diversification impact on our community. New employment would be limited to relocation of microbiologists with advanced degrees or other scientists with research experience with lab mice, with minimum employment opportunities for our local community and with considerable expense to the state and local tax payer. We need to challenge the local and state political support of this risky venture versus supporting established local businesses with proven history of contributing to the local economy as major employers, supporters of many local charities and contributors to medicine, without local or state funding, with outstanding growth and employment prospects for the future.
The new jobs would be limited to relocation of microbiologists with advanced degrees or other scientists with research experience with lab mice and not many opportunities for our local community. This would be a large expense for our state and local tax payers. We should support established businesses with a proven history of contributing to the local economy and local charities. They have not received any local or state funding. These local companies have had outstanding growth and employment with prospects for the future.
"My question is what triggers transport by air to Lee Memorial rather than going to our fine local hospitals?"
Lee Memorial is the only "Trauma" center South of Tampa. That is why he was sent there. Wait till he sees his Life Flight bill from Collier County EMS. Blue Cross Blue Shield of FL told me they are "out of network" so they only cover a low percentage of the bill. They also said that Collier County EMS charges too much and have a monopoly in Collier County since they are the only ones. We need some competition to lower the costs!
I agree with Shadow. My husband counted four cop cars at the school crossing on the two occasions he drove by. We also know of one cop that parks his SUV in his home driveway while on duty and keeps it running while he is in the house for hours.
I feel the same way as OdonataCreations. I enjoyed seeing them and never saw any harm that they've done. Luckily we still have a few around our neighborhood. I think some people are just afraid of them and that's what started this mess. They don't hurt anyone. I've been close to them and if you move too fast they run away.
Here she lives in the U.S. and attends the University of Florida but represents Libya in the Olympics? What's wrong with this picture?
Why don't we just charge a percentage on the sale of the cars, trucks, vans & boats that are FOR SALE next to the bridge? Or charge the campers for their unlawful overnight stays there? Or charge the jetski owners for using the beach by the bridge as a ramp? Or charge the guy who sells FRESH LOCAL FISH? Lucky for him he doesn't need a store front - he just uses our bridge!
Those of you who oppose septics did not attend Butch Neylon's informational meeting a couple of weeks ago at Mackle Park. It was very enlightening and full of facts. Everything he showed us - photos, charts, graphs, etc. made common sense. There's no way I would want sewer on Marco knowing what I know now. Already there have been sewer spills from the Tigertail area. We will have broken pipes out the wazoo since our ground seems to shift easily. After Wilma many homes had the ground sink around them and pulled their pipes along with it.
Oh, by the way, I saw Bill Moss and his wife looking at new Lexus' this past weekend at Germain. He looked like a farmer needing a John Deer tractor more than a luxury vehicle!
Like I've said before, someone in the city government is "in cahoots" with Quality Enterprises!
Thanks for the info and sorry Dr. Zecchino.
It's funny how Zecchino's last response to Vashark1 all of a sudden is written in a way someone can make sense of it. What happened? Sounds like the Dr. has split personalities!
I can never understand Paul Vincent Zecchino's responses. Am I the only one?
MarcoAvenger. These are not accusations. I read the paper and e-mails. Did you see that letter written to the City Council from Butch Nylon in the paper a week or so ago. I received it via e-mail with the Quality Enterprises contract for the sewer project attached. What about the asbestos fiasco too? Didn't you read about that?
MarcoAvenger. You seem to have a problem following this sequence of e-mails. Go back to the top and read down. Maybe something will click.
MarcoAvenger. I guess you don't keep up with all the news on Marco. Quality Enterprises keeps getting away with things. Like not being responsible for the extra costs of the de-watering fiasco though it says they should pay for such things in their contract. Instead Moss and his council members think the residents on those blocks should pay for the extra costs of having environmental experts check the air quality. Go back and read the news from the past two months.
Who are you Soloman? I wonder if you live on Marco? You sound like the idiot!
I still want to know what connections Moss has with Quality Enterprises! If Moss is so great then who is the problem on Marco - the City Council? I look forward to a new City Manager and new council members. It can only get better for Marco without them.
Sounds like her $63 million sewer treatment system could be causing the Bowman Beach bacteria problem on Sanibel. As a Marcoite I'll be waiting to hear the news on that one. Funny how our city mgr. is throwing the sewers down our throat saying it will be better for our water quality - I don't think so!
I wonder why Mr. Davidson is driving around with out-of-state plates? An article said he was a local. What's up with that?
What's with all these comments about Marco being a joke and a waiting room for people to die? I am not retired or old and I'm fortunate to live on Marco. It is a beautiful place and everyone knows it. I have found that many people are jealous of that fact and will say anything so they will feel better since they don't live there. Residents on the island can't help it if they have morons on their City Council who are not following what they wish. The current City Council have their own agenda. I for one, can't wait till we vote new people in and return to what once was.
I still wish they would come down in their pricing. Very expensive so I go off the island.
Hawke1 I was wondering the same. I don't live in that district but find it hard to believe Moss' rational for charging the residents in that area for the environmental check. It's almost like he's slapping their hands for complaining about the smells and health concerns. Does anyone see Moss around town doing normal things like shopping, dining at restaurants, getting gas, etc.? If I saw him around town I think I would spit on him!
We also have the problem over on Bahama St. of some kid in his pick up truck that likes to do donuts in the muddy empty lots next to our house and across the street on the neighbors lawn late at night. We followed the tracks last time to Sheffield Drive and called the cops. They went to the door of a kid who had been suspected before and his parents wouldn't wake him up to talk to the police. The police came back later (once the kid woke up and worked out his story with his parents) and they said he had been 4-wheeling somewhere else that night. Talk about parents being enablers! They're just as bad as the kid.
So true Hawke1!
Magee said he has a problem with it not being appealing as you come over the bridge. That's a joke. What about all the junky campers and cars for sale before you come over the bridge on the mainland side? Doesn't he think those look unappealing? People who don't live on the island go on either side of the bridge and leave their garbage there. They also bring their dogs. How come the residents can't bring their dogs to the beach? Not too long ago someone left their old rusty grill there. We could see it as we drove by each day. Didn't look too appealing Magee!
I've heard from two people who were patients there and they said they would not go back. It was very disorganized!
I heard the bridge is state-owned. Why doesn't the state pay to fix it? Maybe the state will be more concerned now that a tragedy has happened elsewhere.
Years ago I had my profile on Match.com. I am a tall female (5' 10") and it said so on my profile. After being on a few dates with different people, I received an e-mail from a gentleman who was interested in my profile. His e-mail address was "littlevicks." Since he did not have a profile on Match.com I asked him to send a picture. Every image he sent, I could not open. We went back and forth trying to figure out why since I am a graphic designer and had all the software needed. He explained to me that "little vicks" was the name of his vending business and went on to ask me out for lunch. I gave in and said OK. Normally I would have seen a picture first.
My friends at work wanted to go to the same restaurant and check him out. I got to the restaurant first and there drives up a white van with "Little Vick's" on the side. Much to my horror, a midget came out and introduced himself. I let him know how upset I was but sat through lunch with him. He was big on himself and thought he was the cat's meow. Needless to say, my friends showed up and the hostess almost seated them to the table next to us. They told the hostess to pick another table. When I got back to work my friends said they didn't know whether to laugh or cry!
Now when I see midgets on TV I get sick to my stomach! I couldn't believe a year later I saw him in Naples again. Luckily he didn't see me. That's my Match.com story! I'm sure plenty of other people have stories.
I hope those cops don't have to chase down anyone. They'll never catch them!
The trouble with Resident's Beach on Marco is that members have to get there in the morning or early afternoon to find a parking spot. We've tried an hour or two before fireworks started and the parking lot was been full. This has been the case the past four years!
There's no parking left for members at Resident's Beach on Marco if you get there an hour or two before the fireworks. One has to get there in the morning or early afternoon and camp out to get a parking spot!
They can't even do a small repair job right on Barfield Rd. after they got rid of the portable stop light. Now the street has a big dip in it. How will they do all this?
