Written on On The Hook: Net ban benefit replay:

"That single event made the difference. Period."

This article is pure bunk and unproven speculation from another carpet bagger that came from somewhere else, and makes statements that benefit him.
Two observations years apart in the 10,000 islands is not proof.

Why do you malign commercial fishermen?

They provide food for people who are not fortunate enough to catch their own.

What people don't understand is that it is not about conservation, but allocation.

All the fish are going to die, it's just a matter of who gets to eat it.
This is just one more example of pencil pushing, pin headed, bean counting bureaucrats trying to regulate a subject they know nothing about.

Were there abuses? Yes but nothing that could not have been handled by the Marine Fisheries Commission. You know, the people we hired for that job.

Due to lies and misinformation we got a constitutional amendment that banned gill nets and protected pregnant pigs.

Were there some abuses? Yes but none that required a constitutional amendment.

The strike gill-net (note I said strike not drift) is the best way of harvesting our resources and feeding people. The judge involved actually went out on a commercial boat and educated herself.

You ask these people, do you eat mullet?
They say oh no, that is bait.

Forrest Gump comes to mind.

Written on CLAM PASS IS OPEN, UNTIL IT CLOSES AGAIN (The Residents' Corner by Dave Trecker):

This whole clam pass issue is really about boat access, and who will pay.
All this wailing to save a few mangrove trees,
Naples and Marco would not exist as they look today, without killing millions of them.

All that permit B/S is just that.

We have to get one bunch of government employees, to give another bunch of government employees, permission to do what the people want.
Power struggle and turf building, all on our dime.

Limit the taxpayers who pay,.... to Pelican Bay.

"How many things are we missing because we aren’t taking the time to really listen to God?"

That is a wonderful question.

The truth is, it is not a question of, to whom God talks, but who listens? You don't have to be a preacher or a priest, God talks to everyone.

Now, consider the possibility of a description of God that fits all mankind, and is not filtered by religious dogma from ancient writings.

A loving, non judgmental eternal God.

One who would tell you that you are perfect and there is no such thing as sin, (consequences to physical acts, yes) and you don't have to die to get to heaven or hell.

Another man has had a Conversation with God, in which God describes God, a great read.
Consider an update to your bio computer software.

Not trying to sell books, just trying help spread the word of God.

Blessed be.

Written on Time is running out for FEMA $1 million to restore Marco Island’s south beach:

What part of 16 trillion in debt doesn't anyone understand?
No federal, printed or borrowed funny money, to rearrange shifting sands.

Fiscal responsibility begins at home.

Written on Ready, set, restore: Moving ahead, looking for help – donations needed for Marco Island mangrove restoration efforts:

I made this comment earlier, but it mysteriously disappeared.

This whole thing is a crock.

What we have here is a bunch of government employees trying to prove they are earning their paychecks.
Along with a few private people who will get a slice of this scam to get $450,000 of federal, borrowed, funny money.

I noticed they were careful to avoid any local tax dollars.

They want to restore a bunch of mangroves, that were dead and dying, before the great Marco Island Mangrove rape.

The building of state road 92 might have caused it, but it has been that way a long time.

Adding to the trillions already owed, so that some people can play in the mud and be "Mangrove Experts" is not a good idea.

Can anyone say debt reduction, and balanced budget?

Find your funding someplace else.

Written on Letter to the Editor: Plenty of blame for all:

Why does everyone consider this a tragedy?

Without trying to minimize the grief and loss to his friends and family, consider the possibility of a blessing.

An 80 year old who suffered a stroke, avoided sitting in a health care facility, for who knows how long, under what conditions, while he and his family suffer, and his bank account is cleaned out.

There are worse things than dying, keep politics out of it.

Blessed be.

Written on Deadly delay? Friend questions what could have saved man who died after ambulance wait:

Written on Letter to the Editor: Liberals just don’t get it:

I.L.A.C. !!!

Give us a fair tax, and a place on our ballot where we can vote
"none of the above."

No third party, no more voting for the lessor of two evils, and perhaps, term limits.
I know the fair tax will take time, but the "none of the above". is doable, simple, and inexpensive to put on our ballot, and it can be done prior to the 2012 elections.

A different choice, and the politicians will know what we really think.

I lack confidence in the promises of these candidates.

Local, State, and Federal.

Written on Letter to the Editor: Shame on them:

in response to 1Paradiselost:

Question: What's wrong with protecting our National Symbol, The AMERICAN bald eagle?

This has nothing to do with a school, solar farm or dredging dump! However this has all to do with protecting our environment, wildlife and clean air.

When I first moved here this was a tropical paradise. Since then, this Island has turned into a "Blacktop City"

To those "Blacktop City" lovers, Please don't change our tropical Island into Cleveland.

I give the eagle group high marks for saving the environment for helpless voiceless beings, whose only natural enemy is man!

Those who want to "shove aside" any type of wildlife or the American bald eagle (to champion their own best interest) need a lessen in the benefit of preserving a balance!

Every modern city today has green space requirements, why not Marco?

Before you first moved here this was a tropical paradise. Since then, this Island has turned into a "Blacktop City"

"Those who want to "shove aside" any type of wildlife or the American bald eagle (to champion their own best interest) need a lessen in the benefit of preserving a balance!"

Do you have any idea how much wildlife was shoved aside to create your vision of paradise?

It seems that you don't want a school in your backyard because the noise will disturb your nap.

The Mackle Brothers clearly intended for that property to be used for a school.

All this environmental concern is a crock of crap.
You want to see eagles, go to the county dump, and you can see lots of them feeding alongside the buzzards, which are better flyers and perform a valuable function.

If you really care about the environment, tear down your house, plant native vegetation, and move back to Cleveland, or wherever.

As election season approaches, it appears once again, that I have to choose between the lessor of two evils.

I would like a place on my ballot that says

At least the politicians would know what I really think.

As far as I am concerned, to the democratic and the republican parties, I say

"The party is over,"

Written on letter to the Editor: On the dying mangroves Eagle i article:

I can remember as a kid in the fifty's going to the beach on Marco. The dead mangroves and pink mud was there then. Back then you could drive on the beach from caxambass to Marco pass. Most of Marco was mangroves, which were bulldozed to create all those lovely home sites. Let's not get too excited about a few acres of natural death.

Written on Guest Commentary: Destroying our freedom, ecomony, country:

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall.
No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for
creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it..

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of
Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of
the House?
Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party.

She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want.
If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted
-- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility
I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.
When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the
power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is
what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red ..

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people
it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they
hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose
gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give
the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above
all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied
mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation, or "politics" that prevent them
from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Written on Guest Commentary: Destroying our freedom, ecomony, country:

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and
then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits,
WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes,
WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations.
The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal
Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices
545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the
domestic problem that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because
that problem was created by the Congress.
In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a
federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason.
They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator,
a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing.
I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash.
The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the
lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine
how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that
what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con
regardless of party.
