Sergeant Thompson got lucky Hunter was not in the house at the time of the arrest. Hunter fired him once before and woulda taken the opportunity to get rid of him again. Sergeant Thompson is walking on eggshells.

In an accident like this, EMS would have taken blood to determine if drugs/alcohol played any part in this. I'll assume this wasnt done bc he's a cop. $68K salary...no wonder our police budget is in the millions.

$68K is one of the salaries. Some salaries are over $75K and above according to city records.

Well, the police department might as well cost us money too. We have out of control continual spending from our City government, our public utility is costing us an arm and a leg and they still are hiding the true costs that everyone will be picking up.
I'm a pro-city person, but I think we're getting to the edge of the cliff and the City will not be sustainable with the leadership we have. We have three City Councilers who have either been forclosed on or are in foreclosure (check collierclerk.com) and they want to "lead" us in the right direction by showing us how to spend money.

Why does everyone consider this a tragedy?

Without trying to minimize the grief and loss to his friends and family, consider the possibility of a blessing.

An 80 year old who suffered a stroke, avoided sitting in a health care facility, for who knows how long, under what conditions, while he and his family suffer, and his bank account is cleaned out.

There are worse things than dying, keep politics out of it.

I just read the city wants over 100k for more police vehicles. #1 stop!!!!!!! crashing them. And I read every one wants to cut the PD in half. This would not be the right thing to do. If they reorganize the police department this would be great. The Capt has not done one bit of real police work since 2000. Look it up on the county web site. He’s really getting his 100k worth. As for the Admin Lt., he’s not far behind. They have a police officer who is in charge of computers. And from what I heard from the Officers, the computers never work. This computer guy has never left his office since 2003. I was told this cop doesn’t even have a gun. They have two full time detectives who are retired and only do the work they are assigned, that has to be very little. I hope Hunter sees the writing on the wall and makes some changes. I was just told last week that they have two permanently assigned marine patrol officers. Come on, they have not done anything worth talking about except waist marine fuel. Please put these cops on the street where they can do there job and hold them accountable.

The police are here to help and serve the community not just sit behind a computer screen or a desk and collect an outrageous pay check. And as for the officers that lost there jobs they will go through the process and eventually be paid off or will be back to work.

Wow! Some great inside info. Hope Hunter reads this post.
