Rex M. Hughes

Naples - Rex M. Hughes, an Executive of Agricultural Sales and long-time resident of Naples, FL, succumbed to cancer on November 10th, 2021, at the age of 84. A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Naples Conference Center (1455 Pine Ridge Rd., Naples, FL 34109) at 2pm on Monday the 29th, November 2021.

Rex is survived by his wife, Linda Hughes; his children, Dawn Summers, Ryan Hughes, and Brian Jones; his grandchildren, Jake Hughes, Shane Hughes, Clark LeMaster, Caleb LeMaster, & Carson LeMaster.

Rex was born in Clinton County Indiana on November 7th, 1937, to Landis Hughes and Mable Wells. He attended Butler University, Indiana University, and Indiana Business College. He served as Airman 1st Class in the US Airforce where he was awarded "Airman of The Year" by Baklar AFB… also winning the Commander's Trophy with USAF Pistol Team. After the military he worked for Morton Chemical Company, then joined Beard Industries to become Vice President/Director of Sales. He was then recruited to be Vice President at Farm Fans in Indianapolis where he helped FF grow to the largest manufacturer of grain drying equipment worldwide. After brief stints at Schwab Safe and Waitt Companies, he returned to Beard Industries as VP to help them grow to the largest distributor of grain dryer products worldwide.

In his retirement, he enjoyed working with Enterprise Rent-A-Car engaging with customers and calling on resorts and hotels in Southwest Florida. Despite working limited hours, he was recognized as "The Legend" for his outstanding success with customer service and gaining new outlets for Enterprise.

During his lifetime he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was elected two terms as Indiana Republican National Committeeman, a guest of the White House, devoted church member, musical performer, and accomplished basketball athlete (325 consecutive free throws, Avg 25 ppg, and game high 44 points).
