Obituary

Leon Meade Bundy (Jack) passed quietly out of this life into the arms of his savior, Jesus, on Sunday, September 11, 2022 after a short series of illnesses at the age of 96. Jack was a man of integrity and faith beloved by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and was always a gentleman. He loved to tell us wonderful stories about his remarkable experiences. Being with him was always an adventure. Jack will be sorely missed by all who knew him. All of his children are proud that he was their father and consider themselves blessed. As so aptly put by his daughter-in-law Lori, he was a gem of a man! Jack was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, on August 18, 1926 to Loren and Violet Bundy. He was an only child. When he was young the family moved to Chazy where he grew up. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 where he picked up the nickname “Jack”. His friends told him his name – Meade (he went by the name Meade until then)- was not very attractive to women so they decided his name should be “Jack” - and it stuck. When he got out of the Navy he went to Union College on the GI Bill where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. While in the Navy, Jack started his first family with Virginia (Jinny) Hoxie. Jack and Jinny had two daughters – Diana and Lauren. After graduating from college Jack worked for Western Electric on aircraft carriers in Norfolk Virginia. In 1953 Jack began his career with IBM. He first worked in Poughkeepsie, NY, then transferred to Essex Junction, Vermont, when the plant opened in 1957. He quickly moved into management positions. Jack enjoyed his time in Vermont being near where he grew up. He loved skiing in the winter and playing golf and boating in the summer. The family lived in Shelburne where Jack and Jinny participated in the PTA sponsored Korney Kapers (lip-syncing productions of Broadway musicals). They had the best time!! In 1961 he was transferred to Endicott, NY; in 1963 to Scotland; and in 1966 he and the family returned to Vermont. He was known as “Gentleman Jack” to his coworkers. Jack married Jo-Ann Reed in 1967 and started his second family. Jack and Jo-Ann had two sons, Kirk and Kevin. It was in 1978 or so that Jack had a supernatural encounter with the Holy Spirit. This encounter changed the direction of his and his family’s life. He took the first buyout offered by IBM in 1983 and family number 2 moved to Naples, FL, where Jack and Jo-Ann owned and operated the Vineyard Christian Bookstore until 2001, the year Jo-Ann passed away. He and Jo-Ann enjoyed hosting many Christian authors when they visited the bookstore. He was also very active in the Full Gospel Business Men’s Association. In 2002 Jack married Gloria Harris. They toured the country by car, saw all the sights and then settled down in Naples. They were active in St. John’s Episcopal parish for many years until health issues and the pandemic prevented them from attending. Gloria passed away on July 12, 2022 just 2 months before Jack. Jack and Gloria were the oldest grandparents sitting in those tiny hard chairs at Grandparents Day at Kaylee and Luke’s school. They also attended many many soccer games. Jack’s home has been a winter vacation destination for his children who live up north (Diana and Lauren) for many years. And the children who live in Naples (Kirk and Kevin) have enjoyed spending time with him for more years than most are allowed with their dad. Jack had a full and rewarding life and blessed his family and his community. Jack was predeceased by the mother of Diana and Lauren, Jinny Bundy; Jo-Ann Bundy, wife and mother of Kirk and Kevin; wife Gloria Bundy; and his son-in-law Glenn Morrisseau. He is survived by his children Diana Bondeson (Linwood) (in Michigan), Lauren Morrisseau (David Smail) (in Vermont), Kirk Bundy (Michele) (in Naples,FL), Kevin Bundy (Lori) (in Naples, FL); and his grandchildren Tammy Tappan, Tracy Walsh, Terri Trombley, Shannon McKenzie, Kimberley Dostaler, Amanda Bundy, Alex Bundy, Kaylee Bundy and Luke Bundy. He also is survived by 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 500 Park Shore Dr., Naples, FL. A burial service will be held in Chazy, NY at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to Avow Hospice of Naples or St. John’s Episcopal Church in Naples, FL.
