Nancy A. Vernon

Nancy A. Vernon 84, of Bonita Springs died on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Nancy was born on October 28, 1938, in Rochester, NY, one of ten children of the late Charles and Helen Bryan. She had been a resident of Bonita Springs since 1997 moving from Golden, Colorado.

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and worked as a pediatric nurse at the Naval Academy Hospital in Annapolis, MD until 1969 when the time came to raise her family. After moving from Annapolis, MD to Ohio, she became a Professor at the Ohio State University School of Nursing.

She was a devout parishioner at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, a member of the Naples Pickle Ball Club, and a member of the Copper Mountain “Over the Hill” Ski Club in Copper Mountain, CO. She was an avid football fan of the Miami Dolphins and the Denver Broncos and enjoyed biking and hiking in Colorado where she and her husband maintained a second home.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert M. Vernon of Bonita Springs, FL; son, Robert A. “Bobby” Vernon and his wife, Lelis of Coral Gables, FL; daughter, Carla M. Chavez and her husband, Nick of Sarasota, FL; 5 grandchildren, Conner Ashley, Bryan Vernon, Charlie Vernon, Bobby Vernon, and Isabelle Chavez. She is also survived by her last surviving sibling, Betty “Jigger” Bryan of Rochester, NY.

A memorial visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 30, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home 28300 S. Tamiami Tr., Bonita Springs, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 1:00 PM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church 28300 Beaumont Rd., Bonita Springs, FL. A reception for family and friends will follow the Mass.
