Social Scene: Champion chess players

The top eight chess players in two Swiss tournaments were qualified to meet in Round Robin 8 held by Chess K-12 on Marco Island. Cash of $520 and trophies were awarded to each of the eight players. The tournament was held at Marco Lutheran Church where Chess K-12 club meets each Saturday, 9:00 to noon. Cash awards were distributed as follows: Herlan Henriquez, 11th grade Lely, $200; Cameron Cook, 12 grade Naples, $150; Alex Sousa, 5th grade Tommie Barfield, $75; Michael Gurgenidze, 5th grade Home, $25; Dylan Blazier, 12th grade Naples, $25; Michael Distel, 5th grade Tommie Barfiled and Hassan Ali, 4th grade Tommie Barfield tied for $25 & $ $10; Jonathan Hurtley, 10th grade, Marco Island Academy, $10.
