Gourmet to-go: YMCA's annual 'Taste of Marco' returns April 8

YMCA's annual 'Taste of Marco' returns April 8

Special to the Eagle
Ping Chen serves chicken tikka at the Hilton resort table.

Call it elegant sampling, or maybe sophisticated snacking. Either way, the long-running Taste of Marco epicurean epic returns Sunday, April 8 to The Esplanade in the heart of town.

The event is hosted by the Greater Marco Family YMCA and features samples from some of Marco’s finest restaurants.

This year's participating restaurants include: Hilton Marco Island Resort; JW Marriott; The Speakeasy; Marco Island Yacht Club; Marriott Crystal Shores; Island Country Club; Nico’s Kitchen; Verdi’s; Pinchers; CJ’s on the Bay; Mango’s Dockside Bistro; Wild Jimmy’s; and Chop 239.

It’s a win-win on top of a win-win situation: the restaurants want to entice people to come back and dine at their establishments; people who attend can enjoy multiple-course mini-meals; and the Y raises money for scholarships that help fund after-school and outreach programs.

Throw in live music, sideshows and activities for children and it’s a well-spent Sunday in anybody’s book.

Lisa Popoff makes a point of going each year.

“It’s nice to check out local restaurants and see what they’re cooking,” she said. “It’s a great way to find out which ones you’d like to try out later, too.”

Popoff said she’d “absolutely” recommend first-timers to give Taste of Marco a try, and added that the fundraiser is for a great cause.

The event's presenting sponsors are Stonebreaker Builders and Remodelers and the music sponsors are Marco Island Civitan Club and Siegel Dental.
