1. Saturday: Ready, Set, Wear It! Life jacket event

Marco Island Commanders Group, supporting the National Safe Boating Council, will host the ninth annual Ready, Set, Wear It! Life Jacket Event on Saturday, May 19.

This one-day event is part of the North American Safe Boating Campaign – simply known as Wear It! – a yearlong effort which brings together boating safety partners across the U.S. to promote safe and responsible boating, including voluntary, consistent wear of life jackets.

As a kickoff for this year’s National Safe Boating Week (May 19–25, 2018), Wear your life jacket and come to Marco Island Yacht Club, 1400 N Collier Blvd., Marco Island, by 9:30 a.m., May 19.

A photo will be taken to demonstrate our support to safe boating with other sites around the world.

2. Tuesday: 3nd Annual Salute to Veterans

Spring Concert in gymnasium at Marco Island Charter Middle School, 1401 Trinidad Ave., 6 p.m.,  Tuesday, May 22.

There will be a flag from each of the five branches of the military displayed and each branch’s song as well as other patriotic songs will be played.

The public is welcome and admission is free.

3. Monday: ‘Crocs and Gators’

At 7 p.m. Monday, May 21, at the Marco Island Historical Society, 180 South Heathwood Drive, Marco Island.

It's estimated that 500 to 1,000 alligators make their home near Upper Myakka Lake at Myakka River State Park in Sarasota.

Naturalist Bob McConville will answer questions about the crocodiles and alligators of Southwest Florida. Admission is free.
