Head bartender at Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club is national mixology grand prize winner
Angelina McLean, head bartender at Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club, won the grand prize in national mixology contest for her original concoction titled the “Mango Tango.” She incorporated mandatory ingredients for the contest win featuring Mr. & Mrs. T’s Mix, sponsored by Club Grub.
Her inspiration for the national contest was to represent the state of Florida with a themed drink. With it currently being mango season, it was a natural choice for the “Mango Tango.”
Her background and training prepared her for the contest in which she incorporated Mango Ciroc, fresh lime juice, Mr. & Mrs. T’s sweet and sour mix, lemonade, grenadine and jalapeno slices.
Creating unique drinks is Angela’s specialty, who serves over 150 members drinks within an hours’ time on a Friday night during season. It is at the clubhouse bar that McLean is used to personalizing drinks to members’ tastes.
“I start off by asking members what flavors they like and go from there. Then I end up naming a drink after them. I call it the Mrs. B special or Mr. C special,” said McLean.
When it came to taste testing the drink, she relied on members and employees for honest feedback.
“When eight out of eight taste testers chose ‘Mango Tango’ over another drink I created, I knew I had a chance to win,” said McLean.
And she did! As a grand prize winner, she receives a $300 cash prize, a full page feature in Chef to Chef Magazine and Club Resort Business Journal. She will also be on Club Cents, a podcast featuring a collection of conversations with key insiders about the golf & hospitality Industry. The club will receive a $600 credit for bar essentials.
