'Over the moon': Gayle King is 'officially a grandmother' after daughter welcomes son Luca
Gayle King said she has "wanted to be a grandmother for a long time." Now the 66-year-old journalist doesn't have to wait any longer.
The "CBS This Morning" anchor announced her 32-year-old daughter Kirby Bumpus has welcomed her first child with husband Virgil Miller – a baby boy named Luca Lynn Miller.
"I'm officially a grandmother!" King said during Monday's morning show broadcast. "It's really something when you see your own child become a parent. I am so nuts about him."
King revealed Luca's middle name is extra significant to their family. "Virgil lost his brother earlier this year, so little Luca has his uncle’s middle name," she said.
Little Luca has a nickname too: "We already call him L.L. Mill."

King said Luca, her first grandchild, is of course her "favorite grandson," much like how her only daughter with ex-husband William Bumpus is her "favorite daughter." (King and William Bumpus also share son William Bumpus Jr.)
"He's very, very cute," King said. "I'm over the moon."
King shared two photos with Oprah Daily, where she serves as the publications' editor-at-large. One photo shows Kirby and King's "favorite son in law" holding their newborn in the hospital bed. Another sweet image shows Luca resting on King's lap while she plays with his hands.
"I was holding him, Kirby goes, 'You know, you have to support his neck.' Uh, okay! I actually know how to do this!" King joked.
Although King didn't go into much detail about Luca's birth, she said her daughter Kirby "got out of the hospital on Friday." And King was not far behind: "I left the set, got on a plane and I actually beat her home Friday 'cause it took so long to get released from the hospital."
"FINALLY fav daughter @kirbybump gave me permission to share the news she’s a married lady," King wrote, sharing photos of the newlyweds.
In April, King announced her daughter's pregnancy on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," revealing she's "been keeping a list of baby names since even before she got married!"
King told Oprah Daily earlier this month she's always wanted her daughter's firstborn to be a boy.
“I would have been thrilled either way, but I was so excited when I found out it was a boy, because as the oldest of four girls, I always wanted a big brother for myself," King said.
